Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan (R) officially signed civil arrest warrants for 52 House Democrats who refused to show up for another special legislative session, thereby keeping the session from proceeding. As The Washington Post reported: Phelan spokesman Enrique Marquez said warrants were signed for 52 Democrats who failed to return during the fifth day of the House’s second special session, leaving the chamber eight members short of a quorum. The move by Phelan comes after the Texas Supreme Court overturned a ruling Tuesday “by a Travis County district judge that blocked them from ordering the arrest of quorum-busting Democrats, who were in Washington, D.C., for about a month,” KXAN reported.

I do believe the Court upheld Abbotts plea that he could suspend the Salary of those who refuse to come back and do their Job. I hope that stands. Why should the Taxpayers in TX have to pay those folks, on top of all the money they spent on Private Jets and Hotels, when they basically QUIT their jobs and walked out!

#2, the arrest means that they can be taken into custody, taken to the capitol and forced to stay there to vote on the bill.

As the article says, these are civil 'arrests'. they errant Dems can and will be locked inside (literally) the House Chambers, but not locked in a jail. Governor Abbott won the inane lawsuit the Dems filed to block the detainment, and also had his veto of the bill funding the legislature upheld - this in response to another childish lawsuit filed. Sadly, the Dems seem incapable of understanding the laws.

All that is needed is to shove them into the house chambers, apply duct tape to their miserable mouths, lock the door, then have the pubbies vote are pass the bill. See? Easy.

It’s a start. Now we need warrants to arrest the 19 “Republicans” who voted for this infrastructure monstrosity.

Can't imagine the cost of these losers being penned up, fed and hosed down during their stay in DC. They should all be arrested and jailed immediately -unless and until they personally reimburse the voters in Texas.

Hey Speaker, why don't you put Cardboard Cutouts with their faces on them into their chairs in the House...
That way they are 'There' in absentia and can vote only their voices will be muted by stupidity. Quorum achieved!
I'll bet the law doesn't say they have to be alive...

This is great news!! Of course, it all sounds great do let us see if law enforcement is allowed to follow through completely. It is so important there be consequences for all of this - fines, jail, loss of pay, or a combination.
We need Governor Abbott out there more with pressers too!
GOD BLESS Speaker Dade Phelan! Follow through!

The governor should declare those seat abandoned and appoint Republican to fill those seats. If there is no law that permits that maybe the Texas and other legislatures should consider make that a new law. That will keep this from happening again. At the very least all should be impeached and lose their jobs.

This is NOT a criminal warrant. It is a warrant to compel presence in the Texas Lege...no more. I expect the derelicts to now return en masse for the spectacle of being "arrested" and triumphantly brought to the state capital in a caravan - would make for great television and would be the best move to salvage this farce in the eyes of the gullible public.

Not doing their job in order to throw a procedural monkey wrench in the way of accomplishing any legislating needs to be against the rules for anyone, of any party, to do. A person absent without a reason ought to be considered to have vacated their job, or should have pay withheld for the time they are gone. (I think the former is the only real threat, given how many ways Democrats can get cash under the table to compensate for their fleeing.)
Perhaps there should be a rule that the governor fills that empty position with a person of his choice until such time as a special election can be held for that district? THAT would keep anyone for opting for this tactic, since it would lead to Republicans ruling in a huge majority.

As a voting Texan, this entire charade by the AWOL dems is denying my constitutional right to representation in the state legislature...by denying my duly elected rep from voting for duly processed legislation...just because they don't like it.
There is an easy fix for this....just amend the rules so that any voluntary absences don't count towards quorum threshold.
There, I fixed it.

It's hard to believe these imbeciles are actually state legislators. They are supreme idiots! This entire stunt has backfired on them from start to finish. First they release a photo of themselves partying it up, all smiles and happy faces on a private jet with a case of Miller Lite in the background. How on earth did they expect to be taken seriously?
Then they have a press conference when they get to DC and launch into what has to be the lamest version of "we shall overcome" I've ever heard. They made absolute fools of themselves.
Then, to top it off, they bring COVID with them and infect DC! Talk about the gang that can't shoot straight! These people are morons! What a total embarrassment to the great State of Texas these Democrats are!

The corrupt example set by these dem pols is damaging to not only Texas but to the USA and it is only equal Justice to hold them accountable for abandoning their responsibilities to their oaths of office. Since they fled their sworn duties they have forfeited their Right to serve. The citizens need representatives es with personal integrity, duty and principles, not prim a donnas and political hams!
