LA Times: Maybe we shouldn't follow
California's example on electric cars

Original Article

Two months ago, the New York Times and CNN raised warning flags on the environmental costs of transitioning to electric cars. Last week, the Los Angeles Times followed suit, although in this case it’s the California dog that doesn’t bark that should be of greatest interest to that question. Even without the obvious questions about energy for recharging, however, the LAT raises a series of environmental issues with the necessary mining to sustain production of EVs.

Comments:

It's rich to watch as the Lefties finally start to notice the consequences of their dumb policies. In this case, CA doesn't have the juice to even keep the EVs in use now charged so they can do even the lightest errands! In CA you are prohibited from charging at night (so you can commute to work) as well as discouraged from charging in daylight. More EVs would only make things worse.

What happens when millions of batteries go dead.? What is your electric car worth when it has 100,000 miles on an old battery that might need expensive replacement? How much damage is done to the earth in the mining for rare earth for batteries. Towing??? Fuggedaboutit. Air Conditioning --only if you don't have far to go.

SURPRISE! Petroleum powered cars have much lower cost, and much lower environmental impact than electric cars. Then add in the far longer range, much lower cost and the ability to safely park one in your garage without it exploding at random times, and EVs are losers. EVs were tried in the 1890s up to about 1907, and then abandoned for good reasons, technical and economic. All those reasons are still valid. EVs are losers.

I was watching a business program a couple of months back, and the head of an investment fund brought up the fact that there aren't enough mines in the world to mine the ingredients to manufacture the batteries needed for the number of electric cars the left wants. In fact he said the number of mines needed would go against any environmental standards in place today.

Guys, the real story here is that Elon got disgusted with the commies in California, sold his houses there, and has moved to and invested in plants in (gasp!) Texas. In short, he ticked off the powers that be in CA, hence this article.

I often wonder if we all have to buy electric cars and planes, what is going to happen to the millions of gas powered cars and planes being run on jet fuel? Are they going to be put onto an automobile lot to just sit and become rust heaps gathering dust? What happens to the environment then? These people are crazy!

Saw a news story last week that Los Angeles has a fleet of 28 electric transit buses, which were recently touted by the Xiden administration. Only three are operational. The city can’t get repair parts from the company that sold them. Meanwhile, the fleet of LPG buses are still rolling strong.

#7, I can guarantee you that there will never be an electric airplane beyond some silly stunts with a very light plane that goes at a very low speed for a very short distance. Unless "Mr. Fusion" of the Back to the Future" series of movies becomes a reality.....NO electric airliners, EVER.

Former White House senior COVID-19 adviser Andy Slavitt said Thursday on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” that President Joe Biden needed to get “very aggressive” and advocate that schools, businesses and government agencies require daily negative coronavirus tests results from the unvaccinated for which they pay. Cooper said, “Fifty-seven percent of those eligible are fully vaccinated in the United States. Now given those percentages and the vigor of the Delta variant, what more does the administration need to be doing right now?” (snip) It’s going to take getting very aggressive about particularly younger people.

Possibly the dumbest thing any country could do from an energy standpoint is to promote widespread use of electric vehicles, while simultaneously mandating reliance on wind and solar energy, which work less than half the time. Moreover, governments’ politically-motivated reliance on electric vehicles like buses has been a disaster. This is a typical “green” fiasco: More than two dozen electric Proterra buses first unveiled by the city of Philadelphia in 2016 are already out of operation, according to a WHYY investigation.

A state-backed Communist Chinese firm has conducted a hostile takeover of the UK’s largest microchip factory, raising concerns about Beijing’s growing control of the market during a global chip shortage. On Monday, Dutch semiconductor manufacturer Nexperia, which is controlled by the China-owned electronics firm Wingtech, took 100 per cent control of the Newport Wafer Fab’s factory in South Wales after using a contractural clause to seize the company.

A majority of marriages in Britain’s Pakistani community being between first cousins is wreaking a terrible toll on public health, with stillbirths, birth defects, and disabilities far higher than they would otherwise be. In an article published by the Daily Mail, journalist Sue Reid described how an estimated 55 per cent of Pakistani-heritage couples are first cousins in so-called consanguineous marriages. Not coincidentally, British Pakistanis account for an astonishing 33 per cent of birth defects in the country....

The line was removed after the Reddit discussion brought it to attention.

A 58-year-old patient came to see me one Monday morning not long ago. He was like so many in his age group — he had spent the weekend getting in a week's worth of exercise. His left knee was sore, and he wanted an MRI. He was not a professional athlete with a huge stake in his physical well-being, and he had not fallen on it or twisted it; it was simply sore from his three-mile jog on Sunday morning. "It's covered by insurance," he told me. Never mind that there was no medical indication to qualify this particular hurt for an MRI.

Perhaps it’s because I grew up surrounded by extraordinarily tough people, but I found myself singularly unmoved by the spectacle in the House on Tuesday, which reminded me of a bad mash-up of Dr. Phil, Oprah, and BLM-produced soap opera, rather than a legitimate inquiry into an event that Democrats have seized upon to consolidate their power by destroying their opposition. As sobbing congressmen and Capitol Police officers took turns talking about their psychic injuries, I was alternately embarrassed for them if they were really that weak, and frightened of them if they were that sociopathic as a pathway to power.
