Google Pushes Chinese Propaganda About
South China Sea – with Wikipedia’s Help

Original Article

Posted By: mean Gene, 6/5/2021 9:41:48 AM

A discussion at the Wikipedia Reddit community yesterday noted that Google searches asking if China owns the disputed South China Sea prominently featured a result from the online encyclopedia parroting the Chinese government position that it “enjoys indisputable sovereignty” over the sea. Reddit users noted the line appeared to be taken from a Chinese Foreign Ministry statement quoted in the article, a fact not included in the Google snippet. The line was removed after the Reddit discussion brought it to attention.

Comments:

"Indisputable sovereignty?" Laughable. But only if you don't rely on phones for all your news. Memory is being lost at a high rate as mere headlines now equal truth. Notice now we don't even get whole headlines, just "featured snippets." Winston Smith (the one from 1984, not the one killed in Minnesota) couldn't have done it better.

It is true that China's "sovereignty over the South China Sea" is "indisputable" on Google.

It is disputable by the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, that established Territorial Seas as waters outside of 12 nautical miles from a country's coastal mean-low water mark. Territorial Sea is regarded as the sovereign territory of the state, outside of that is International Waters.

Last night, after company had left, I was still thinking about the conversation I was having with an ex F-14 driver who had flown off of the strike carrier, Kitty Hawk. Not trusting my memory of past shared events, I did a search for Kitty Hawk and clicked on the Wikipedia entry for basic info; however, the article did not follow a typical format in describing decommissioned naval vessels but rather it referenced and linked to a 1972 race riot on board the carrier that was highly biased and very BLM-like. For 9 pages, it went on and on about how the black sailors on board, most of whom had less than one year in the Navy, had been harassed by the white sailors until it forced the blacks to react violently. The ignorance of the author was very apparent, as no sailor of any race who is on board a US or British warship crossing the equator or the International Date Line for the first time has failed to undergo a hazing ritual that dates back over 400 years. My first time crossing the line found me on duty as a medical corpsman but that didn't exempt me from the hazing ritual, which like "blood pinning," becomes a source of pride once it is in the rear view mirror. Moral: practically all forms of tech media today are hopelessly sold out to the hard left and deserve nothing more than to be driven off the face of the Earth.

They just released an exhaustive list of words you shouldn’t use, in the name of health equity, whatever that is. Topics include drug abuse, healthcare, homelessness, economic status, immigration, race, sexual orientation, and more.

Communications from top leadership at the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) shows them instructing active duty and retired service members that they are forbidden from criticizing Joe Biden for his utter incompetence that led to the crisis in Afghanistan. Considering how much I hate receiving parking tickets, this is one war on standards I might get behind. However, it also extends to compliance with driving, vehicle registration, and fine-paying requirements. The Washington Post assigned a team to investigate ticketing in Washington, D.C. The team collected five years of traffic and parking enforcement data containing more than 10 million records of infractions. It then merged that information with data from the Census Bureau to analyze enforcement records by area of the city.

Two months ago, the New York Times and CNN raised warning flags on the environmental costs of transitioning to electric cars. Last week, the Los Angeles Times followed suit, although in this case it’s the California dog that doesn’t bark that should be of greatest interest to that question. Even without the obvious questions about energy for recharging, however, the LAT raises a series of environmental issues with the necessary mining to sustain production of EVs.

Former White House senior COVID-19 adviser Andy Slavitt said Thursday on CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” that President Joe Biden needed to get “very aggressive” and advocate that schools, businesses and government agencies require daily negative coronavirus tests results from the unvaccinated for which they pay. Cooper said, “Fifty-seven percent of those eligible are fully vaccinated in the United States. Now given those percentages and the vigor of the Delta variant, what more does the administration need to be doing right now?” (snip) It’s going to take getting very aggressive about particularly younger people.

Possibly the dumbest thing any country could do from an energy standpoint is to promote widespread use of electric vehicles, while simultaneously mandating reliance on wind and solar energy, which work less than half the time. Moreover, governments’ politically-motivated reliance on electric vehicles like buses has been a disaster. This is a typical “green” fiasco: More than two dozen electric Proterra buses first unveiled by the city of Philadelphia in 2016 are already out of operation, according to a WHYY investigation.

A majority of marriages in Britain’s Pakistani community being between first cousins is wreaking a terrible toll on public health, with stillbirths, birth defects, and disabilities far higher than they would otherwise be. In an article published by the Daily Mail, journalist Sue Reid described how an estimated 55 per cent of Pakistani-heritage couples are first cousins in so-called consanguineous marriages. Not coincidentally, British Pakistanis account for an astonishing 33 per cent of birth defects in the country....

Some of them do admit that — when they’re cornered. I’m thinking of Dan Crenshaw being confronted by an election truther at a fundraiser in August and telling the guy that he was kidding himself if he believed there was such widespread fraud that it flipped the result in multiple states. There’s a cohort of hardcore populists within the House GOP whose loyalty to Trump is such that they’ll eagerly parrot any conspiracy theory he likes but most GOP reps who are asked about this tend to mumble something noncommittal about “election integrity” and “unanswered questions” before changing the subject.
