Poll-dancing: Is Biden really
at 49 percent approval?

Original Article

Here are the biased numbers for the recent Economist-YouGov poll that gives Joe Biden a 49% approval rating. (snip) Dem (324) Republican (235) Independent (260) Ninety-nine more Democrats sampled vs. Republicans were included in the results. It is not hard to get the results you want if the polls are assembled in this way, and this is always the method with these polls. A total of 819 from 1,500 participants. Does that mean the rest were dumped because they are not registered to vote or affiliated with a party? Were their answers included in the reported percentages?

First of all, they sampled "adults," not "registered voters," or "likely voters." Polls that measure the opinions of registered and likely voters are more accurate, with likely voters being the most accurate. Sampling "adults" gets the opinions of the dunderheads that late night comedy shows have so much fun with when they ask them to name the three branches of the government. Second, they oversampled Democrats by a wide margin (39.5% vs 28.9% Republican and 31.7% independent). I always look at the sample size, who is being polled and the breakdown by party affiliation before I pay any attention to polls.

Rule of Thumb: Always add or subtract a substantial amount from polls depending on whether left is up or down. If they're admitting to 49%, real number is probably moving toward 50%. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is neither naïve nor stupid. So why did he invite United Nations officials to investigate systemic racism in the United States? In Stanley Kubrick’s 1964 black comedy, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, the engine for the plot is Brigadier General Jack D.
