MSNBC’s Al Sharpton on Friday warned that the United States is “on the precipice of” eroding the voting rights of minorities. Sharpton, who was part of a group of civil rights leaders that recently met with President Joe Biden to discuss battling new voting restrictions put in place in some Republican-led states, said on “Morning Joe” that he and other protesters will “turn up the street heat” to fight for voting rights because they “cannot sit by and allow them to erode our voting rights.” “We met with Joe Manchin, eight of us a couple of weeks ago, and he even convened 13 Republicans that met with us by Zoom,” Sharpton advised.

A George Floyd mural in Toledo, Ohio was destroyed by a lightning strike Tuesday afternoon, according to witnesses.
WTVG reported their Doppler Radar did show a lightning strike on the same block as the George Floyd mural at 4:30 this afternoon.
The lightning strike, which hit directly on George Floyd’s face, reduced the mural to a pile of bricks.
A mural honoring George Floyd erected at Summit and Lagrange in Toledo has collapsed. According to Toledo Police, witnesses say it was destroyed by a lightning strike. 13abc’s Doppler Radar did show a lightning strike in that block at about 4:30 PM this afternoon.

The Thursday article, written by the paper’s food section staff writer, Daniela Galarza, and titled “Stop calling food ‘exotic,’” begins by quoting a couple who praised Afghan restaurants and referred to the cuisine served as “exotic,” in an old Post essay.
Though she admitted the couple “meant no harm,” their use of the term “exotic” indicates that they see the world through a “presumptive Anglocentric perspective,” according to Galarza.
Christina Pushaw, press secretary for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), slammed the media Thursday in reaction to a report which failed to mention that a 2008 Florida law, which could have ushered in repairs for the collapsed Surfside condo, was repealed under former Gov. Search teams recovered 15 more victims in the Surfside, Florida condo building collapse as of Friday afternoon, bringing the death toll to 79, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava said at a Friday afternoon press conference.
"This is a staggering and heartbreaking number that affects all of us very, very deeply," she said earlier Friday.
Fifty-three of the 79 victims have been identified, and another 61 people are potentially unaccounted for, Cava said.

In a last ditch effort, Democrats in the Texas state legislature reportedly plan to walk out of a special session to prevent a number of key Republican-sponsored bills from passing.
At least 58 Democratic state lawmakers plan to leave Texas and fly to Washington, D.C. to rally support for federal legislation, NBC News first reported. Most of the fleeing state lawmakers will travel on a pair of prearranged private jets, the New York Times confirmed.
By exiting the chamber indefinitely, the Democratic lawmakers are denying the Texas GOP quorum, or the minimum number of members that must be in attendance to hold a valid session.
YouTube deleted a video of former President Donald Trump from the American Conservative Union’s account and prevented the group from live-streaming the former president’s Sunday CPAC speech. In a statement, ACU Chairman Matt Schlapp said the group learned that its account had been frozen for seven days over a video from Friday in which Mr. Trump announces his class-action lawsuit against the Silicon Valley titans such as Google and YouTube.
