In a last ditch effort, Democrats in the Texas state legislature reportedly plan to walk out of a special session to prevent a number of key Republican-sponsored bills from passing.
At least 58 Democratic state lawmakers plan to leave Texas and fly to Washington, D.C. to rally support for federal legislation, NBC News first reported. Most of the fleeing state lawmakers will travel on a pair of prearranged private jets, the New York Times confirmed.
By exiting the chamber indefinitely, the Democratic lawmakers are denying the Texas GOP quorum, or the minimum number of members that must be in attendance to hold a valid session.
Arrest them before they can flee the jurisdiction. Texas Rangers can be sent to do that very thing. If they manage to flee, arrest them as soon as they re-enter the state. Also cut off their salaries, travel expenses, and every other perk they are getting now, since these little mewling babies refuse to do their jobs.

I'd be happy if they walked out and stayed out. Cut off the cash flow and they'll be back

This has happened before . It’s 1 of the reason the repubs are called the dumb party. W hen in session a change should have been made to handle this. How many times do the republicans have to be out maneuvered before getting wise. This isn’t just Texas it’s at both state and federal levels.

Lock the door behind them, never let them back in, cut off their pay, cancel their private jet flights, put them on lockdown, and vote in your bills without them!

The solution is simple - as soon as the Rats' are in the chamber, the GOP should bar the doors to prevent the Rats' from fleeing, then they should immediately commence with voting on the legislation at hand.

Didn't some states (Tennessee, I seem to recall) lock the chamber doors to keep democrats from doing just this very thing when passing the 13th amendment?

It is already an "Emergency Session" called by the constitutional powers of the Governor, issue some form of Habeas Corpus writ.. send the Rangers to drag them off the planes, Texas state Guard can provide transport back to the statehouse and guard the doors to stop escapee attempts...Give a "Shelter in place Emergency order" covering the building and any violation becomes a Felony, Felons can be removed from office and a special election held to replace them. Dems have done this twice before, fleeing out of state rather than "Doing their Jobs" Apparently their concept of "Turning the State Blue" is the toddler threat of Holding their Breath until they do.

Who is paying/supplying the private jets? A pair of private jets for 58 crooked RATS is more than a couple Cessnas. We're talking a couple of small commercial passenger jets at the.least.

We knew this would happen once again, why did not Abbott put a plan in motion. They should have been made to sign a document that if they left the chambers before the bills were passed, they would be forfeiting their votes

Am wondering if there can be citizens' arrest? Put out an APB for Texans to keep an eye out on the Democrats and if they see them, detain them and hold them for arrest. File charges against them for obstruction. Seriously, Im tired of these boneheads acting like their still in the 1960s playacting their conscience. They dont give a hoot about anything except themselves. So isolate them and let them stew in their own juices.

Forfeiting votes isn't the issue. It is holding a quorum for a vote in the first place. If the Dims are still 'here' place them under guard in the Texas Senate/House and hold the votes immediately.

Like always, Demon-Rats never see the long-term consequences of their actions.
The governor can keep calling special sessions of the legislature. And he can let the citizens of Texas know that the Demon-Rats are wasting their tax dollars every time they pull a stunt like this. Demon-Rats live and die by poll results.
But I agree with other posters. This is a job for the Texas Rangers. And they need to use the full force of their office to drag these useless and evil Demon-Rats back to do their jobs!!!

Call the Rangers nd have the come and arrest any that try to leave the state, impeach and the do leave the state. The Governor should sign an executive order that anybody that is absent for the vote without just cause will be strip of their pay, health benefits and their pension too.

The key item in the article is the ostensible purpose for which the democrats are fleeing Texas for DC, which is to "rally support for federal legislation." This goes against their responsibilities as stated in the U.S. Constitution by pushing for federal legislation in a matter clearly delegated to the state legislatures. Play the democrat game and declare their actions an insurrection, to hold them in jail without bond for at least 7 months.

Just like 2 year olds - if I don't get my own way, I'm going to hold my breath and run away. They truly do set excellent examples for college and high school students. If this is about voter ID's - every time I go to the dr, I have to show one. It's too bad these people with no ID's can't use our great medical system. When I got my covid vaccine, I had to show ID- too bad these same people can't get a covid shot because they have to show ID. Why aren't we hearing racism on this? It's because they have ID, it's the illegal voters and dead voters who have the majority in the democrat party who don't have ID's. Those are the problem ones.

Texas lawmakers and legislative staff in the Texas House and the state Senate earn $600 a month, or $7,200 a year. They also receive a per diem of $221 each day in session. Maybe money isn't much incentive to be at the session.

Does the Texas Republican party really need the demosluts to pass this thing? Take a vote, if there are no objections to the results, it passes.

I am all for #26 suggestion here. If these punks don't want to do their jobs, let them resign or be fired. For most of us, refusing to work would result in termination. If the legislature is in session and you don't have a valid excuse for not attending, YOU ARE FIRED.

The issue is the requirement for a quorum to vote. By leaving, there isn't a quorum, and no votes can be taken.
Texas has a 150 seat House in their legislature, so they need 2/3 or 100 to be present to vote. There are 83 Republicans, so they need to arrest 17 Dems and hold them in the legislature, against their will, which is apparently legal, while they vote. Shouldn't take more than a few hours.
So, hunt down about 20 of them, haul them in, with handcuffs, if need be and get the state's business done.

Just have the Texas Board of Elections and Texas AG unilaterally change the voting law without Texas Legislative approval; That's what Pennsylvania did with Governor Commie Tommy Wolfe .
Put up posters for these Dem lawmakers who ran away--
