While American troops were leaving their main military base in Afghanistan on Friday, China was already preparing to enter the war-torn country to fill the vacuum left by U.S. and NATO troops. Authorities in Kabul are considering extending a $62 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as part of China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).First launched in 2013 by Chinese president Xi Jinping, and written into the Chinese constitution in 2017, it is billed by Beijing officials as a global infrastructure development fund which aims to better connect China to the rest of the world. The Chinese entry comes amid threats from the Taliban to NATO to get out of Afghanistan

Oh no, then they'll have access to the opium crops the US military used to guard for them during the occupation. Shouldn't China deserve to do use the excess US dollars they have from ongoing massive trade imbalances? It's either this or build up their military for use against the USA. Our best and brightest at the agencies should have foreseen this decades ago and banned trade with them, as we did with the Soviet Union, unless what we see now was the desired outcome.

China shares a very tiny border with Afghanistan, and taking over that country will give them an even bigger border with India, which is obviously what they are setting their sights on. The chicoms will simply deal with the Taliban the way the U.S. should have, just wiping them out and to heck with civilian casualties.

The Chicoms will not have rules of engagement that look anything like our miltary leadership imposed on our troops.
But then, the Soviets didn't either, and it didn't help them.

Belt and Road should read: The Chi-coms will send money to corrupt the politicians into thinking they are actually in charge of their own affairs, and when compromised will do whatever is demanded of their new MASTERS so as not to be removed.
It won't be long before their influence takes over the whole world due to vain and corrupt persons being bought off.
As Scripture tells us: "The borrower is the lender's slave"
Sort of how DC works once the $$$$ people create the RINOs who vote like demonrat socialists and forget the folks back home--

Makes sense. China can trade their 4k HD LED TVs and iPhones for much needed camel dung. and opium.

Much easier to invest money rather than the blood of your people. The Taliban will take the money. China will not win anything in Afghanistan. We can continue to drone that country if they host terrorists.

So...how is China's debt? Doubt they really have the money for this. Their debt is not as bad as ours (I read 5 trillion), but they are spending money they do not have just like us.
Don't be holding the debt bomb when it finally goes off!

I would rather China spend $62B in Afghanistan than the USA. The country needs the investment.

While the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative does pose a threat to Western Civilization, it provides less control to China than the Chinese government believes. The effectiveness of the BRI depends on the institutions of Western Civilization which the Chinese government is using it to destroy.

All the above comments saying that China will fail overlook the fact that China is NOT invading Afghanistan militarily. England, Russia, and the US invaded and ultimately lost. China is buying the country making the need for a military simply a threat to be used to keep them in line. The US on the other hand pumped billions of dollars to build schools and promote women. That did not succeed. The US provided military protection to select individuals to grow and harvest opium. A bit difficult to tout the success of that.

No one since the Sihk's in 1838-9 have successfully invaded Afghanistan. Doing so has brought down the British Empire, USSR and the US. China won't worry about poppy fields or women and children to conquer.

They don’t call Afghanistan the graveyard of empires for nothing. From Alexander, the Persians, the Mughals, the Brits, the Soviets and now to us.
The ChiComs are dumb, but not that dumb. The may think that they can buy fealty from the Taliban but any potential return on investment is useless unless the the security situation there is stabilized first. Everyone, including China, takes for granted that the US provided that nominal security stabilization (and revenue) in Afghanistan for the past 20 years.
With the US now gone, the ChiComs would need to provide the revenue AND military to fill that void. Good luck with that. The PLA has an abysmal track record outside of China. The last army that they engaged with were the Vietnamese in the 1970s and LOST that one in the process. That was a conventional battle and the PLA has no experience to fight asymmetric warfare.

Afghanistan is the least of their concerns. It is just a small lynchpin in their quest to create “infrastructure” to enable their world domination. Look at the proposed map.

China won't send troops to Afghanistan. They'll just send money and some advisors to make sure the money is spent the way they want it spent.
