The Rise of ‘Blow Off Steam’ Policing

Authorities frequently met last summer’s riots with a diffident response. National Guard troops remained in their barracks, and police often stood by as looting, arson, and property destruction took place in cities ranging from New York and Chicago to Seattle and Minneapolis. While political leaders deserve much of the blame, in some cases, the police themselves genuflected to left-wing protesters, endorsing their cause and reinforcing the protesters’ claimed moral superiority to the broader society. Since many of these protesters were white and seemed to come from middle to upper middle class homes, what steam did they have to blow off?

Why should police put themselves in a position where they may be prosecuted or have to hire an attorney to keep out of jail because their superiors do not back them. The hell with that noise. I would find something else to do too.

I learned something a long time ago about our great nation. Certainly the most powerful yet benevolent enough to help others. For a good long time we could rest assured there was safety from outside attacts brought by those who meant us harm. What I learned was that nearly the only way to "invade" the United States would have to come from within. The systematic dismantling of the vast number of facets that has made us strong for over two centuries, as we are witnessing today. The forces assembled from both within and abroad, to me, seem more determined and hell-bent than ever before, including both world wars. The one large wedge brought to bear recently and continuing right now is the desolving of Americas citizens' binding together, united, to keep her whole. I am very sad to realize the trouble we are in and if we will ever come together before all the riotous actions we have seen in recent months reach their obvious goal of changing our nation, irreversibly, into something unrecognizable and unfunctioning. God help us.

Yeah, blowing off steam really worked. Who got saddled with the massive amouonts of damage? All the public got out of it was defund the police. That worked too. All it did was to embolden the massive amount of crime that's being done.

More academic-originated leftist drivel. The choice is the Old Way or the stupid way. Ironic that Kent State was cited as a bad example because. although the shooting was not planned, it stopped the rioting on college campuses completely.

I'm not an advocate of blowing off steam at someone else's expense. Wreck your own car into a tree but don't try to 'blow off steam' on mine. Let business owners protect their livelihood with force and don't prosecute them when they do. Make the steam blowers pay the price for taking their pent up made up rage to the streets. I respect other people as they should do the same for me. Blowing off steam is not an option.

After a 45 year career in education I firmly believe the maxim that people in authority teach what they tolerate. If teachers tolerate droopy posture, insolence, insubordination, or disrespect they will get more of it to the point that education cannot occur. If police tolerate rioting, destruction of property, or homicide they will get a citizenry of lawless, criminally selfish people. If politicians or judges refuse to enforce laws that have passed through the legislative and executive processes for codification, the destruction of our culture may not yet be in sight, but it is just around the corner. ...a Republic, if you can keep it.

A totally BS concept. Obey the laws OR ELSE, is the proper way of handling these events. And if some rioters must die, OK, fine. If you choose to riot, understand that it might cost you your life. No kid gloves "blowing off steam" bull.

Thank goodness we have licensed regime-approved journalists to tell us what is true and debunk what is not. Leveraging their extensive life experience as first college students, then grad students, then Vox interns, and finally NYT scribblers at age 27, these special, special people are uniquely suited to defining – for us – objective reality. And we miserable peasants are so ungrateful. On this Memorial Day, I ask: Where is their parade? Reporters are generally garbage and we should devote ourselves to destroying the mainstream media, just as we should commit ourselves to undermining and collapsing every other woke institution that dedicates itself to our

Hunter Biden smoked crack with late D.C. Mayor Marion Barry, he revealed to a friend in a recorded call obtained by DailyMail.com. In the January 2019 conversation, Hunter bragged: 'I actually smoked crack with Marion Barry I swear to f-ing god.' Hunter, 51, told his friend that he would regularly smoke with Barry in the restroom of a Georgetown bar while he was an undergraduate there. The stunning admission in the call, which was saved on Hunter's abandoned laptop, contradicts the president's son's claim in his memoir that his arrest as a teenager scared him off drugs until after college

Show of hands: Just a week ago today, who among us would have guessed that within just three days, the CDC would do a 180-degree flip-flop on par with the 1989 announcement that the Berlin Wall was coming down, and suddenly announce it was now safe for “fully vaccinated adults” to “resume most activities, indoors or out, in groups or individually, mask-free and without social distancing”? In an attempt to convince New York City residents to obtain the coronavirus vaccine, Mayor Bill de Blasio stuffed his mouth full of fast food during a briefing Thursday morning. The “repulsive” performance was part of a joint promotion between the city and the fast food restaurant Shake Shack. “I got vaccinated. You’re saying I could get this? These delicious fries?” the mayor said during the briefing as he pulled out some Shake Shack fries and began eating them while speaking. “Wait a minute — but there’s also a burger element to this? In the Oval Office today, while doing a brief appearance before the cameras, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Vice President Kamala Harris, President Joe Biden, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi all wore masks and sat very deliberately spaced apart — if not six feet apart, then as close to that distance as possible. Every elected official in that room was vaccinated months ago and is considered fully vaccinated. Their immune systems are as prepared for an encounter with SARS-CoV-2 as they can get. Yes, McConnell, Biden and Pelosi are getting up in years. But the CDC itself states, “preliminary data from Israel suggest that people vaccinated with Pfizer-BioNTech

It’s a sad commentary on the gun violence plaguing the Big Apple. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology has delivered the final blow to the COVID lockdown regime. The new study on the so-called six-feet apart rule was blown up. The indoor occupancy caps were also trashed. What about those insanely expensive air filtration units that teachers want to be installed before they venture out of their caves and start working again? Not necessary. Open windows, fans blowing, and a good circulation of fresh air is good enough. It doesn’t matter if you’re 60 feet away or 6 feet away from someone inside, you’re still at risk of contracting the virus, even with a mask on.

Mitt Romney (R-Utah) would likely be among the first to admit that he's not the most popular name in Republican circles these days, but that doesn't mean his successful bid for the GOP presidential nomination in 2012 can't serve as a template for future contenders. The Republican Party's 2024 picture is muddled. The consensus seems to be that until former President Donald Trump makes it clear whether he'll run, potential candidates will lay low. One way they can do that and still make some headway if they do ultimately enter the scrum is to get involved with 2022 House
