A voting bill in Texas that was on the verge of Republican Gov. Greg Abbott's desk failed to pass Sunday night after Democrats walked out of the House chamber before a midnight deadline. The bill known as Senate Bill 7 would have imposed a raft of changes that Republicans in the state see as a sensible approach to securing election integrity. It would eliminate drive-thru voting, empower partisan poll watchers and impose new requirements in order to cast a ballot by mail in Texas. But about two hours before a midnight deadline to pass the bill, Democrats began filing out of the chamber in greater and greater numbers, denying Republicans the quorum

This is a standard Democrat tactic in Texas, acting like fifth graders to avoid their responsibilities as legislators.

Do it by Executive Order. Lack of a quorum is a State of Emergency. \s sort of.

The tactic of denying a quorum has been used before-- The Governor of Texas will call a Special Session and ultimately there WILL be Election Integrity legislature passed in Texas.
State Senator Wendy Davis gave an 11-hour filibuster wearing pink tennis shoes and a catheter to deny a vote on a bill to ban abortions after the 20th week and was raised up by the national media. She parlayed that into a failed run for Governor against Greg Abbott and lost by 960,000+ votes. She recently lost a 2020 race for U.S. Congress against Representative Chip Roy by 30,000 votes in which much outside money was spent.
In the 2003 Legislative session, San Antonio State Senator Lillian Van de Putte led 10 other Senators to Albuquerque, New Mexico in protest of a restructuring plan by denying the Senate of a quorum to conduct business in order to freeze ALL legislation, not just the redistricting plan. After that 51Dems in the House fled to Oklahoma for the same reason during a first called Special Session. Ultimately, a Second Special Session was called and there was no walkout.
Governor Abbott has said he will call a Special Session, and ONLY the issues HE wants will be on the agenda.
The ultimate failure to get this legislation passed without a 'dramatic' media theater presentation is on the the Legislature and game playing due to restrictions on how legislation is advanced through the process. By stalling and not taking a vote to move this issue through in a timely manner, THIS was the result.
With regard to redistricting, the slow walking of the data will require another special session to deal with that since Texas gained two Congressional seats and probably should have gotten another, but SOMEHOW, the preliminary numbers put out in December under the Trump Administration, got lowered when the BiteMe folks tried to save the liberal states where people are getting out of to seek better lives and opportunity in TEXAS.
Patience, grasshopper. This legislation is not officially dead yet, and will eventually prevail

Senate Bill 7, huh? What an imaginative title. Stirs the passions, heats up the juices...NOT!
Put a real title on this baby, call it something like the "Making Every Legal Vote Count" bill. Or "The Vote Count Integrity" bill. Or "Block All Fake Ballots" bill.
GOP has got to do better in the messaging.

Good. Now don't come back. Put up a fence and the Texas National Guard around the capitol building to keep these dangerous "insurrectionists" out.

The radical Dems want to eliminate the filibuster because it's "undemocratic," but think that throwing a hissy fit and stomping off is brave and bold. Hypocrites, every one of them.

#1 hit it on the head. My disdain for Democrats has grown to the point I want NOTHING to do with any of them. I don’t want any America-hating friends or even acquaintances.
Sadly, my brother and sister are among these despicable people, and we don’t jeehaw much..,

FTA: ''But Democrats have argued that the bill would suppress voters and have a detrimental effect on access - especially for marginalized voters.''
Question: Exactly WHAT is a ''marginalized voter?'' Is that the idiot that can't manage to find a place to register within a 4 year time span? The idiot that can't stand in line to vote without being served food and water? The idiot that doesn't have a clue what either candidate stands for, but knows exactly which one promises the most freebies? The one that needs an extra two weeks after election day to cast a ballot? In other words...DEMOCRATS!

#11, it’s because their voters are basically adult children who have never had to grow up and be responsible for themselves, and they get a childish glee from their “leaders” throwing tantrums.

#5, because our ancestors didn't listen to Joe McCarthy and flush the commies out of the entire country. So they were allowed to infiltrate and corrupt every institution. It would have been a lot cheaper in time, treasure and lives to have done it then, than when we have enough non-ignorant, gullible, foolish people realize it has to be done in the current day and age.

Another instance of Republicans being too nice, of not being alert to Dem tactics. This walk out should have been anticipated; they should never have expected Dems to stay for the vote after they ran out the clock. I will be paying attention to determine who got snookered. The Governor, the Lt. Governor, or The new Speaker of the House.

Do not reseat them if they return. If someone in the private sector walks off the job, to me, it is the same as resigning. Tell them they have effectively resigned and are not permitted to return and participate.

Just like when Abortion Barbie pulled her filibuster stunt a few years ago, the Demon-Rats are just stalling the inevitable passage of these laws.
But their stunt will cost the taxpayers of Texas millions of dollars paying for a special session of the legislature. Of course, wasting taxpayer dollars is what Demon-Rats do best, so they don't care.

It's AIMED at suppressing voters... the ILLEGAL ones! This is why Demonrats always cry "JIM CROW!" It's because DEMS were the originators of Jim Crow, Poll Tax, and "walkin' 'round money" to influence elections.
I think there's a verse in the Bible, "By their projections, ye shall know them" or something like that. s/o
