The last load of raw milk left the ranch outside Montana State Prison on Dec. 27, drying up a decades-long run for the prison’s work program that was clipped by a shift in a single company’s global commerce policy.
Last year Darigold, the product brand for a dairy cooperative headquartered in Seattle, canceled its 30-year contract with the prison, forcing the state’s prison work program, Montana Correctional Enterprises, to scale down its dairy operation from 350 head to about 70, enough to produce milk to self-sustain the Department of Correction’s facilities around the state.
Darigold ended its contract after one of its major customers said last year it would

A good reason to stay away from Costco, permanently.

They calculated room and board, healthcare, dental, vision and each prisoner is actually making about $21 an hour.

Does Montana have prisoners left? I know NY doesn't seem to have any anymore since that putz is closing every prison on the books. Cuomo released them all and CA is following suit.

My husband grew up on dairy farms and Darigold was the company they sold their milk to. It is a premier brand in the Pacific Northwest. This is too bad. I'm wondering, if Costco won't sell merchandise made in prisons, does this include things made in China that possibly have been made by prisoners?

I live in an Oklahoma town with a medium security federal pen on the outskirts. It has a dairy operation that supplies milk to other federal pens. I don’t know if they provide milk to the public. But the dairy operation gives inmates daily jobs to be productive and get out of their cells. Trustee inmates actually drive the semi trucks and tankers to deliver the milk. I’m sure a lot of Costco’s merchandise is made by Chinese slave labor. But they sure aren’t going to upset that applecart.

Costco is now on my boycott list. Maybe the outfit running hit piece ads against Nike, American Airlines and Coke takes on self-righteous Costco.

The prison spreadsheet showing the prisoners earning money didn’t matter to the wokesters in Costco. It’s the all-important virtue signaling, front and center.

Sorry for the second post but I just had a thought. Costco won't sell Darigold milk because some of their product comes from a prison in Montana. But, Costco also stopped selling the MyPillows because the company is owned by a Conservative, Trump supporter. This is a company that makes it's product in the United States and employs several hundred Americans, who are not prisoners. Way to go Costco. It would be nice if someone in the company could explain their reasoning for both decisions.

Will Costco be shutting universities down until students are paid minimum wage, as well?

A prisoner working for a government owned business? I'm surprised Costco has a problem with the program, it sounds like the perfect socialist system.

Giving prisoners a skill set, and at least a bit of a work ethic is a really important thing, and it would seem to be a way to give a criminal a far better chance to succeed after prison, and not return.
And yet these black-hearted, brainless fools at Costco would smash that for their stupid 'touchy feely' leftist political reasons.
I have considered getting a Costco card a couple of times....this ensures that I won't ever do it.
