The New York City public school system has officially dropped Columbus Day and replaced the annual federal holiday with Italian Heritage and Indigenous People's Day, which will be celebrated this October. The city's Department of Education announced the changes Tuesday, amid ongoing concerns about the European explorer's treatment of indigenous people when in America.

Comments:

"Indigenous" Peole's Day will be observed by everyone living like Stone Age hunter-gatherers. Use of anything invented by a white male will be strictly forbidden - - including indoor plumbing, central heating, air conditioning, anything powered by electricity, cars, buses, trains, airplanes, ships, television, radio, movies, computers, elevators, escalators, and machine-loomed clothing. No playing of baseball, football, basketball, hockey, tennis, golf, volleyball, croquet, or pool will be allowed. Come join the fun!

Yeah, the Italians and Indians have a lot in common. Maybe eating fettuccine wearing a loincloth in October.

If they honestly believe this will appease Italians, they are sadly mistaken. Columbus Day is basically the day this country honors the Italian heritage. Now they are not only "basterdizing" history, they are forcing the Italians to share their one day of the year with "indigenous people". Give the indigenous people their own freakin' holiday and leave Columbus and the Italians alone!!!!!

What could be more of an American holiday? Columbus didn't know where he was going, didn't know where he was when he got there, did it with other people's money, and wasn't the first guy to do it.

Words matter. indigenous: ( adjective) originating in a particular place. For American Indians: that place has been proven to be Siberia. Either everyone born here is indigenous or none of us are. No humans were here a few thousand years ago.

Columbus never got within 500 miles of NYC. In fact, he never even hit any part of North America. The closest was his first trip, he hit the Bahamas, likely Cat Island or Eleuthera. But he was Italian.

Nearly 25,000 migrant children were in the custody of the government, apart from their families, in early May. The number of unaccompanied migrant children in the federal government's care is at an all-time high, easily eclipsing the corresponding total in 2018 when the Trump administration pursued a policy that led to the intentional separation of children from their families, eliciting major controversy. The situation underscores the severity of the crisis facing President Joe Biden early in his administration and the moral quandary he faces.

A journalist and CNN analyst on Friday advanced the controversial claim that an Ohio police officer responding to a knife-wielding teenager should have shot her "in the leg" and should have considered not even using his gun to address the situation. April Ryan, a reporter with theGrio, made the argument—a common one among police critics—on Friday’s edition of HBO’s Real Time With Bill Maher. The show’s panel was discussing in part the recent police-involved shooting of 16-year-old Ohio resident Ma’Khia Bryant, who was attempting to stab several other teenagers with a large butcher knife when a responding officer shot and killed her.

Facebook was justified in banning then-President Donald Trump from its platform the day after the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, but it needs to reassess how long the ban will remain in effect, the social network’s quasi-independent Oversight Board said Wednesday. The decision to uphold the ban is a blow to Trump's hopes to post again to Facebook or Instagram anytime soon, but it opens the door to him eventually returning to the platforms. Facebook must complete a review of the length of the suspension within six months, the board said.
