The lumber shortage is getting worse. On Tuesday, the price per thousand board feet of lumber soared to an all-time high of $1,359, according to Random Lengths. Since the onset of the pandemic, the price of lumber has skyrocketed 280%. For weeks, Fortune has relayed a similar message to readers: The price of lumber is likely to continue posting new all-time highs this spring. To the ire of home builders and DIYers alike, that prediction continues to be right. And signs point to this all-time high soon getting topped too. On Tuesday, the July futures contract price per thousand board

An electrician told my hubby yesterday that electrical wire has tripled in price. Thank you, scotus, Pence, dems, rinos, nevertrumpers and dominion for installing a fraudulent, incompetent administration because the ELECTION WAS STOLEN!!!

As a result existing homes are that much more valuable and, of course, that much more taxable.

There was a Tik Tok video Minday of a very well-spoken trucker. He has hauled lumber from mills and lumber warehouses for many years. He wanted us to know there is no shortage. The warehouses are full to the rafters. Third parties are buying lots of it up, others are only allowing sales of about 1/3 of what is in warehouse. THEY ARE DOING IT to jack the prices up, knowing they can blame covid and get away with it. He said he and his fellow truckers noted the sawmills never stopped production all through the worst of the pandemic. Then he saw they had so little lumber to pick up and its getting worse.
Congress, you lazy idiots, get off your duff
and do something. One industry after another trying to hurt us, enrich evil billionaires all at America’s expense!!

I was planning on finding a builder for a substantial home addition.....I think I'll hold off. This is insane, literally.
And I need some lumber to make some kitchen cabinets for our vacation cabin.....gee whiz, that's going to massively increase the cost of materials.

Chinese emerald beetles just killed all the ash trees on my property. They blame the Chinese virus for running up the lumber prices. I'm tempted to buy a Chinese portable sawmill and...

One thing building is not stopping at our local farms. People have large acreages, much in forest. They say they needed to do some clearing anyway of some hardwoods. They are harvesting it, two local sawmills picking it up and voila’ lumber.

Any comments on the price of paper?
From what little I know about the lumber industry, the price of paper pulp should track the price of construction lumber, since the two products are the main results of many timber operations. While some may target only "saw timber", that is, conifers of the right size and species to cut into construction lumber, many will often also target the smaller conifers and suitable hardwoods to chip into chipboard and grind into paper pulp as long as they're already operating on a tract of land.

2020 it was toilet paper. 2021 it's lumber and basic building supplies. Artificial shortages begetting market panic, price gouging, and loud demand for price controls (the latter of which form the framework for government "managed" economies). Communism continues to ooze into place.

After looking at the graph, as far as the literate are concerned, it is going to be hard to blame the massive increase in lumber prices on Trump. I was looking to purchase some 2x4s and 1/2 inch plywood the other day. The local lumber yard price was $8.50 per 2x4 and $58.00 for a sheet of 1/2 inch plywood. After seeing those prices I put my construction project on hold.

Are prices actually going up or is the value of the dollar suddenly going down? The 'price' of my house in NY has increased nearly 15k in the last six months even though I have done nothing to improve it. I am told its because of people wanting to get out of NYC without leaving the state because of covid.
Does the lumber shortage have anything to do with covid? Was lumber being cut during the pandemic? Now all of a sudden covid is over and people are starting to consider projects, and the shortage is only being noticed now.

#4 This is exactly what oil producers did in the 70's. The narrative was that there was an embargo of oil, but my dad worked at a refinery during that time, and they ran out of space to store all the oil and refined product. They filled every tank and cavern they had, and were storing oil in tankers sitting in the Delaware river. Meanwhile, motorists were waiting inline for gas, or doing odd and even days to get gas.

There are videos of massive amounts of lumber being held up & stored in the open along the northern border. This should be investigated.

There's a YouTube video recently posted (https://youtu.be/iY3zjaeof8w) of a man driving by a train yard in Vermont where freight from Canada is transferred to U.S. tractor-trailers and delivered across the country. Well, that lumber is stacked up as far as the eye can see. Plenty of fresh lumber comes down from Canada but the American side trucks aren't coming to get it at nearly the rate required. It's just piling up, so where's the problem?

3 weeks ago I had an arbor and fence installed to replace an old one. Between the bid and actual construction an additional $1000 was added because the price of wood increased so much. My contractor told me since it was completed the price of redwood has doubled. For instance: I paid $120 for a 6”x6”x10’ redwood post. In just three weeks the price went to $210 for the same post.
I guess that new garage is gonna wait ....

If you are old enough, you probably can remember Jimmy Carter coming out wearing a sweater reminiscent of the old time Roosevelt fireside chats, but instead of by radio, Carter appeared on TV claiming that the world was running out of oil. If they could get Carter to believe that, it will not be long before Joseph Biden comes out claiming that Trump is responsible for the ongoing lumber price inflation by causing the world to run out of lumber.

Take a look at the palm of your right hand. If you follow the lower lifeline from your thumb to the left side of your wrist, you are looking at the area where about 80% (+or-) of our population lives. A HUGE percentage of these people are relocating north ( northern lower part of 'the mitten' as well as the northwestern lower portion of the upper peninsula. One reason is Covid ,which has allowed(forced) many to work from home. The other is the fact that the southern-lower is controlled by liberals . The cost of home construction up here is 4 to 5 times what it was last year as Biden/Governor Wretched Whitmer has ramped up the exodus ......
