I’ve put off getting my concealed handgun license for many years. Inertia, ill-defined fears about being “in the system,” and a general lack of urgency all contributed. Additionally, living in Multnomah County, just outside of Portland, I have exactly zero faith that our Maoist, Soros-backed, antifa-loving district attorney Mike Schmidt would offer me a fair trial should the time arise that I need to use my 2nd Amendment rights. After all the shenanigans 2020 visited upon us, however—especially in Portland—I decided the time was right (even though I lost all my handguns in a tragic boating accident).

What part of "shall not be infringed", do they not understand?
I wear a t-shirt with that printed on it.
They understand it VERY well... which is why they do it. The Constitution guarantees freedom - but only if you're willing to fight for it.

It's instructive that Reynolds himself has moved to Florida, finally giving up on Portland, a casualty among cities. Hiss Oregon concealed carry permit is delayed. After paying the fees, filling out the forms, undergoing the background checks, and waiting for bureaucrats to slow walk the paperwork, he hasn't got his permit yet. In all likelihood he will have his Florida permit before the one from Oregon gets forwarded to his Florida address. In many parts of the country the right to keep and bear firearms is infringed to the point of extinction.

I have a friend who has been waiting for his Illinois FOID card for about 250 days. One time when mine was about to expire I reapplied as soon as they would allow but didn't get my new card until I lived several months as a felon. Of course I delivered my guns to the local iron smelter so that I was in compliance with the law. I carried a copy of my application and cancelled check so that in case I was pulled over on my way to the smelter I had some hope that officer friendly would cut me a break.
In general we have tolerated the intrusion of a new form of government where the laws aren't really the laws. You can't make a certain behavior illegal through the legislative process, no problem just tax and regulate it into oblivion. You don't want to comply with a real law, no problem either, just don't enforce it. We have surrendered the real societal rule making to agencies and unelected bureaucrats.

Reynolds, you didn't plan this very well with your move to Florida. Even in Colorado where applying for a concealed handgun permit is quite easy and where the local police are very appreciate of applicants who take the time to earn the responsibility of owning firearms, the process and the cost are about the same - two to three months required for getting the background check.

There may be enough guns lost in boating accidents to disturb the earth's gravity.

I am very fortunate to live in a state where open carry is a guaranteed right, no appointment is necessary to get your CCW, just show up with an ID and $25, wait less than a half hour for the background check to process and walk out with the permit. Contrary to Leftist propaganda, my state has almost no shootings except for the usual inner-city suspects. There is absolutely no excuse for it not to be this easy in all states.
The good news for you Nazi-state residents, when the SHTF there will be nobody around to check whether you have a permit or not. Good hunting!

Sorry about your boating accident, that being said, join the USCCA and you will have a lawyer available 24/7 for a modest monthly cost..plus lots of other goodies...

He's smart to get the hell out of Oregon. At this point about 20 states, perhaps a bit more, I haven't checked real recently, have recognized that the 2nd Amendment says "the right to keep and bearshall not be infringed" and have cancelled all infringements on bearing arms in public, openly or concealed.
More states need to recognize that this is the situation. At least Oregon still has a 'shall issue' objective standards law, even though they greatly, and unfairly delay the process. I believe that there are only 8 states left which have "may issue" subjective standards which are frequently used to issue ZERO handgun licenses, as in Hawaii. Several other states with many millions of residents have a few thousand permits issued, usually to politicians, judges, law enforcement and their relatives and a few friends.
If things go well, the SCOTUS may use the NY case to require 'shall issue' objective standards in all states. In my dreams, I imagine that they would require recognition of ALL concealed carry licenses like states are required to recognize all driver's licenses.

#7 be careful. I was a member of USCCA until they pulled out of my state because it was too difficult to defend law abiding gun owners. US Lawshield is much better

I live in a constitutional carry state. No permit required for concealed carry. Strap it on and go about your business, kind of like a free American.

#4, Here in Florida, Wifey got her CWP in about an hour at a tax office. She had a certificate from the training course, then they took a photo and fingerprints at the same time. I renewed mine 10 minutes.
That was before covid. Don't know waiting times now.
