'They couldn’t care less': plan to
solve sewage crisis in Illinois
town merely 'a patch'

Residents of a majority-Black community that have endured long-term flooding from sewage claim that a proposed plan to remedy the issue is insufficient. The Guardian reported last month on how even modest rainfall causes Centreville, 10 minutes from downtown St Louis, to be overwhelmed by sewage that overwhelms homes and streets. Following the Guardian’s reporting on the “humanitarian crisis” in Centreville, Illinois senators Tammy Duckworth and Dick Durbin urged the Federal Emergency Management Agency (Fema) to approve federal funding that could potentially address the city’s failing infrastructure.(Snip) The frustration underscores the extent to which members of this community, which is about 95% Black

Comments:

Could the locals try to solve the problems themselves, the same way every other town does, or must they whine about disparities and expect handouts, from FEMA, no less? If they uproot their town and plunk it down somewhere in Africa, white do-gooders and the UN would line up around the block to contribute.

Who are the local officials? To what party do they belong? What party as controlled both houses of the Illinois General Assembly for most of my entire life of 51 years so far? To what party does the governor belong? If you answer "Democrat," you will win the prize in today's quiz. And yet the Illinois Governor has the audacity to speak of "environmental racism." Since when does the environment discriminate against a race of people? It doesn't. But Democrat policies do. Democrats ran the plantations in the South. And now they run the "plantations" through other more modern means.

Typical puff piece by the Guardian. Why hasn't the town fixed the problem itself. How has the town spent its money? If it is too poor, then it is the states responsibility to solve the problem, not the federal governments. But of course Durbin and Duckworth, being the leftist liberals they are want the federal government to come to the rescue.

Typical Guardian redundancy due to overemotionalism: 'overwhelmed by sewage that overwhelms homes and streets.' A person once pointed out to me that a river's railroad drawbridge was required to be raised to give any and all boats the right of way. He said simply: 'the water was here first.' I'm guessing the water AND the sewers were there first ie before the residents. Don't like the water? Move. Don't like the smell? Move. Despite the Democrats' best efforts we still have that freedom. Your skin color is irrelevant to the problem or solution. Water and sewage don't know what race you are. If you moved there because it was cheap, now you know why it was cheap. If you lived there before the problem, why are you still living there now?

It ain't because you are black that none of the sewer money is spent on the sewers. Everybody's sewer money goes to municipal salaries and benefits. I hope this news will clear up these misunderstandings.

A prominent activist who supports the Black Lives Matter movement has appeared to support violent protests, arguing that rioting and looting are 'a legitimate, politically-informed response to state violence'. Bree Newsome, 35, made the passionate remarks in a series of tweets this week, arguing that police are not limited to non-violence, and that a violent response to injustice can be appropriate and justified. Newsome, a filmmaker and activist on racial justice issues, famously scaled a flagpole at the South Carolina State House to tear down the Confederate battle flag in 2015.
