As part of its racial equity efforts, Target Corp. is pledging to sell products from more than 500 Black-owned brands by the end of 2025.
That goal is part of a new $2 billion commitment the Minneapolis-based retailer is making to spend with Black-owned businesses over five years. The company did not provide specifics on how much it currently spends with these companies, but said the commitment represents a significant increase.
Target currently carries 65-plus Black-owned brands, including several in its beauty department. In addition to diversifying its suppliers, Target said it will step up partnerships with other Black-owned

The special page at Target (linked from the article) has a banner that reads, BLACK BEYOND MEASURE, with an exhortation to "Buy Black." That's unapologetically racist, and yet the official policy of the US government is to revile white people, who wouldn't even think of advertising like this, and if any did, the outcry and denunciations would reach the heavens.

Okay, if they're quality products, at a market reasonable price, and made in USA, well, that's great.
If they are anything but ... or a business that is set up with a "front-man" minority owner as is often done with government contracts, well, then count me out.

I read, "Target pledges to discriminate against people who look like you because of your skin color."
Remember when people would be ashamed of that, rather than brag about it?

Dear Target, you should have been fair and unbiased all along. All of a sudden you are jumping on this bandwagon. Me thinks that you may not have been fair and unbiased in past dealings. . .

Hang tight, let's be honest. Target isn't spending a dime. The Customer is paying every cent.
Every penny a 'black' item costs over a 'who cares' item is borne by the customer.

Addendum (sorry).
After the actual monetary cost, there is the Quality cost. If the 'black' item is lower in quality (requires a little more in each application, package a bit smaller, or maybe just bad) again, the customer pays that.
I recognize the stuff will be flying off the shelves, but how much of it was actually PAID for?

Makes no difference in my life. Gave up Target some years back because their local stores changed so much and their merchandise was not up to previous standard. Had previously shopped there a lot for various items. Way off my shopping radar long before Covid.

I am a firm believer that some people are just born stupid. No amount of School or advancement in the Work Place will make them Smart. I believe the folks who run Target are those Stupid People. That said, I haven't been in a Target store since they decided it was okay for grown men to use the Ladies Room IF they felt they were a Female that day! I choose to shop at stores that are smart. They know letting grown men into the Ladies room is a recipe for disaster (not to mention a huge lawsuit and a ton of bad publicity). So the stores I shop in have MENS Rooms and LADIES rooms. I rarely use the Ladies Room in stores as some of them lack a tad bit of cleanliness! But! I still want those rooms dedicated to M or F!

WalMart tried this back when they were just a pup, although a bit more inclusive, wanted to be a conduit for American products made in America, by Americans. It didn't last all that long. This little firt in a windstorm won't last either.

Whatever. If life in America was a baseball game certain groups would still be standin' at the plate after one thousand swings and misses.
Target used to be pretty good for emergency computer and electronic items. Last time I went in for a simple camera cable the go-getter at the counter said "If we have it it's on aisle 26." They didn't; in fact the general inventory was pretty much depleted. Went home and ordered it from Amazon and waited a day. No biggie.
My guess is Target's "pledge" for 2025 will result in a flood of 99-cent store stuff in 2026.

How is it good business to decide on what is best on the color of a person's skin? I thought the civil rights movement was all about curing this kind of racism. How disgusting that Target should be leading us back to the days where the only thing you could see was a person's skin color. Time to call out these people for the RACISTS that they are. STOP this madness in its tracks. How does being a racist cure racism? I would like someone at target to explain that to us.
Maybe you could stop snorting and puffing to make some sane business decisions. Where are you shareholders? Are you as racist as this store seems to be?

Wokeness is not appealing to most consumers. Quality and price or more important than the color of the skin of the person you bought it from. If it doesn’t work, is a piece of crap, or is overpriced will not make me a satisfied customer just because you can claim you were “woke” and bought it from a person of color.

You can't GET worse quality at Target. Everything is Made in China. The clothing is beyond flimsy poorly made crap. When you walk in the store, you are assaulted by the message of the month Rainbow tee shirts, Obama's "best seller," Black History, funny no Mother's Day or Father's Day.

I think I have been in a Target exactly 3 times in the last 5 years. And that was only because I needed something that I couldn't find anywhere else (and I promise I looked high and low before I forced myself to go through those doors again).
When Target made it policy to allow male perverts in to their women's restrooms, they lost me as a customer. And I used to go there several times a week -- definitely more than I went to Wal-Mart back in those days.
Now they are going to offer a bunch of products not based on the qualify of the product, or that they can get them for a good price to pass on to their customers. No, they are going to sell things that most customers will not want or need, and that will not be cheap.
Making a stupid business decision just to show how "woke" your company is is still making a stupid business decision!!! But Target has a great track record for making stupid business decisions!!!

Does that mean 2 billion dollars they are going to take away from their chinese suppliers?
Or are the blacks going to have to relocate their businesses to china?
Or are they going to call asians black like the news media does when an asian attacks a white guy and the white guy fights back and wins. And thus they are already meeting that 2 billion dollar goal because the chinese are already black?
