President Biden’s push to fill the nation’s roads with electric vehicles would be a boon for China and would increase America’s dependence on the communist power, which dominates the globe in advanced battery production and the mining of rare minerals needed to make those batteries. The White House is working with congressional Democrats to ensure its infrastructure package includes at least $174 billion for “made in America” electric vehicles. At least $40 billion would be used to install 500,000 electric vehicle charging stations across the country.(Snip) China produced 72% of the world’s lithium-ion rechargeable batteries in 2019, and the U.S. accounted for 9%.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said Sunday that in his state it's not just Republicans who are pushing back against the Biden administration as migrants surge to the southern border in record numbers. According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, there were more than 172,000 border stops in March–the most in 20 years–and 20,822 unaccompanied minors are in federal custody.(Snip) Abbott went on to detail steps the White House can take to improve the situation. "What the president could do is to immediately put back in place the 'remain in Mexico' protocols that were established in the prior administration," he said,

More than 100 corporate leaders joined in a Zoom call on Saturday to discuss ways they could counter new voting regulations that some see as a move to reduce electoral participation. Their call was convened in response to new rules in Georgia, signed into law by the governor on March 31, which critics say brings back Jim Crow-era restrictions. Executives who have said they would sign on include ones from: Pepsi, PayPal, Starbucks, AMC Entertainment, Merck, Hess and T. Rowe Price, according to The Wall Street Journal.(Snip) Mellody Hobson, chairwoman of Starbucks' board, said on the call that political unrest is bad for business,

It’s widely known that investigators rely on so-called “black boxes” to reconstruct the moments leading up to a catastrophic incident involving an airplane, train or ship, but many drivers don’t know that their own car may be equipped with a similar device.(Snip) In fact, as of 2014, car research site Edmunds found that 96 percent of new cars had an EDR built in. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that an estimated 64% of 2005 passenger vehicles had “some EDR capability.” While the NHTSA proposed making them mandatory in 2014, the devices never became federally required and manufacturers started voluntarily including them.

The mutant South African Covid-19 variant can 'break through' the Pfizer jab, a study has found. Scientists studied 400 people who had tested positive for coronavirus at least 14 days after receiving one or two doses of the jab—and 400 who tested positive with no vaccine. The variant was eight times more prevalent in those who had two jabs than none. It was seen in 5.4 per cent of people with two doses—but 0.7 per cent of people without any. This suggests the vaccine is less effective against the South African variant, compared with the original coronavirus and a variant first identified

The Biden administration will not require “vaccine passports” by law, but stands at the ready to “support” companies who are pursuing the technology, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said Sunday. “We don’t view this as the role of the government, to create or mandate any kind of vaccine passport — but these technologies are there,” Buttigieg told CNN’s Jake Tapper when asked whether he supported airlines requiring customers provide vaccination documentation in order to fly. “Private sector is working on them,” Buttigieg said. “We’re interested in following that, providing any kind of technical advice or support where needed.”

Ryan Weyandt, a West St. Paul resident and founder of LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance, commissioned a vibrant "Black Lives Matter" mural for his wooden fence last summer. Now, after it became something of a local landmark, the city of West St. Paul says it must be removed because it violates code.
The mural at the corner of Butler and Smith avenues also bears the beaming face of 2020 mayoral candidate Kimetha "Kae Jae" Johnson.(Snip) There's been backlash, too. Weyandt said he and his husband received verbal harassment "laced with profanity, anti-LGBTQ sentiments and general disapproval" of the mural from one neighbor.
Comments:
I thought it was BLASK TRANS LIVES MATTER. Imagine having such a thing in a residential neighborhood; wall of ugly graffiti.
