Detergent and cleaning brand Tide is urging Americans to do their laundry in cold water; to save the planet, and maybe save some money.
As part of their effort to lower the carbon footprint of doing laundry, Tide’s new campaign is aimed at getting people to do an average of three out of four loads of laundry with cold water by 2030. [SNIP]
The switch will cut down on the power consumption needed to heat the water.
"This is going to be the defining decade for where we end up on climate change," Shailesh Jejurikar, CEO of Procter & Gamble's fabric and home care division, said in an interview.

This CEO's ancestors were probably doing their laundry on a rock by the riverside. That's why he emigrated here! Truth in advertising - I come from the same country as he did.

Just a bunch of woke & mirrors.
I've been a Tide customer for 37 years. Or rather, I was a Tide customer for 37 years... Time to find something else.

My washer and dryer are at least 30 years old and work great. A few years ago I had to have some repairs done on them. The repairman told me to use hot water - it is better for the machine and doesn't save that much energy to make a difference. I won't be following the advice of P&G.

I have a years-long personal boycott of P&G going for its virtue signalling and political correctness. In particular, I dropped Tide after decades of brand loyalty.

As the owners of Gillette, one would think that they are capable of learning about crashing stock prices from virtue signaling mishaps.
But, I guess they aren't "woke" about sensible business practices.

One reason we bought a Speed Queen washer - the Maytag equivalent limited "hot" water to about 95°. Would have bought the Maytag otherwise.

Okay, Tide, I'm done buying from you. Get woke, go broke. My grandmother used to make her own soap. Lye soap! She used it for everything--laundry, bath, etc. My mom bought us that store bought stuff to bathe with though. Good grief. We need to start growing our own food and making our own soaps, etc. Live off the grid, man.

Procter & Gamble’s Always feminine hygiene brand says "not everyone who has a period identifies as female," and its Gillette brand pushes the idea of "toxic masculinity." Not only does their advice not register with me, but none of the brands in their corporate portfolio enter this household if we can help it. Stay woke, dopes. Also, it would be much easier to wash in cold water if they'd allow phosphates back in the detergent. But Corporate USA needs ethanol more, so to reduce fertilizer runoff from all that corn, we must sacrifice our dishwashers and washing machines.

Tide and P&G can kiss my washer hose! Inside my own house, I pretty much do as I please. That said, many fabrics today call for cool or cold water, but for bed linens, bath towels and pet items, I will use hot water if I think it is called for.

As it happens, I do wash in cold water, except for underwear and towels (mostly because of the washcloths). But that's because I think it keeps my clothes better, not because of any of this green nonsense.

I do not use cold water in the laundry, because stinky clothes stay stinky unless you use warm or hot water. Grease does not come out in cold water. In the long run, people will end up using more water to rewash clothes that are still dirty after washing in cold water.
Tide is greatly overpriced, IMO. I use ERA.

On another note, there is such a thing as the Brownian Movement. This is the movement of water molecules and they are in constant motion. Heat makes the molecules move faster, hence heat makes water wetter. Tales less to "get the dirt out".

Most modern washers use much less water anyway, so there's that. And, I will continue to wash with warm or hot, unless it's an item that needs cold water. The crazy woke loons are a far greater threat to our planet than hot water...

Tide is priced a lot higher than other detergents. I guess by appealing to the politically correct crowd they can charge more for what is essentially the same product as several other brands.

This use of the word Carbon drives me up the wall.
The left has inserted it to mean CO2.
All Carbon on the Planet was once CO2.
CO2 is the feedstock of all life on this Planet.
All life on Earth is Carbon based.
I could reduce my Carbon footprint by buying less Kingsford charcoal .

If Shailesh Jejurikar has evidence that Tide removes the same amount of pollution, bacteria and viruses from laundry, regardless of whether the water is hot or cold, he's welcome to share it. That would be wonderful!
But he didn't explain the "science" of how cold water would be preferable to hot in the face of a pandemic. An easily transmissible virus continues to circulate around the world and in the US. Dr. Fauci recommends wearing at least one, or maybe two masks in public. If we're really good, we might get to celebrate July 4 with other people! Presumably, Covid is getting on people and their clothing and masks every day when they go out in public. It seems rather reckless to tell folks not to worry...that their laundry is "clean" enough.

Right on #8. My old Maytag died after 40 yrs. We got a Speed Queen for reason you said plus the spin cycle so efficient the clothes are in dryer half the time. The dryer uses big time electricity so there you greenies I do my part! Tide is lucky. I won’t boycott them. I got a laundry detergent “recipe” from my old Maytag repairman. I have used it forever!

This guy is an Indian, born in India, raised in India, went to college in India, and lives in Geneva.
I really don't give a darn what he thinks, he isn't an American, and doesn't know or care a thing about America or Americans.
I guess I'll have to start avoiding ALL P&G products now.

I notice the elites want us to bathe in cold water too. I had to get maintenance to turn the heat up on the hot water heater, so I could get hot water. The elites don't have enough sense to realize that everything is not a foot away from the hot water heater, and may have to travel through cold pipes to get to where it is used.

What's to stop the diabolical Proctor & Gamble from telling everyone to take ONLY cold baths in order to save the planet? Or to use ONLY cold water to wash the dishes? Why don't they just tell the government that everyone should get rid of their hot water tanks?

For sanitation purposes you should not wash towels or sheets in anything but hot water, I don't care what Tide says about their detergent. Also stinky gym clothes need hot water.
