Dr. Seuss's political leanings are well known—he was a liberal Democrat who opposed fascism in the 1940s and President Nixon in the 1970s. The new movie of his book The Lorax is a fairly unsubtle pro-environment allegory.
Less well celebrated are Theodor Seuss Geisel's early advertising and political cartoons from the 1920s through the 1940s, which feature a decidely racist streak. (snip)Later in his career, Seuss mended his ways and drew anti-racist cartoons, a couple of which we've also included in this gallery. He also expressed regret for his anti-Japanese views

People have a stroke over 80-year-old cartoons but give FDR a pass for rounding up anyone of Japanese ancestry and keeping them locked up in remote camps for years.

Have the highways, buildings and schools named after the grand wizard of the KKK been changed yet. Have statues of congressmanRobert Bryd been pulled down Off the pedestal? Oh. Why. Not. More important to ban books.

Pardon the second post I meant to include prior to interruption:
No liberal will accept the argument but what if everything they ever did, every accomplishment they achieved, were to be cancelled now or in the future because they support something even more repugnant that slavery? Obviously I am referring to the murder of innocent helpless babies at a minimum those who survive outside the womb and those in the late stages where they are undeniably viable.

And, they bury the anti-racist ads he drew during WWII. By the way, what was racist about the ad he drew regarding Hitler and Hideki Tojo (or was it supposed to be Hirohito - they both wore little round glasses)? Complete and utter nonsense.

The caricatures are reminiscent of the leftist drawings of Condoleezza Rice, Justice Thomas among others.

There’s a meme going around the internet this morning showing the Cat in the Hat and this verse...
I will not wear it on my face.
I will not wear it any place.
I will not wear it to get in.
I will not wear it on my chin.
I will not wear it on my ear.
I will not wear it out of fear.
I will not wear your stupid mask.
I will not wear it.
DO NOT ASK.

A cartoonist who is known for his zany, exaggerated characters drew zany, exaggerated representations of minorities in his stories and other media. Grab my smelling salts!

Ode to Teddy G
If I swam in the swamp like a goose
Or wallowed in woods like a moose
I’d get less reprisal
Than Theodore Geisel
That racist old man Doctor Seuss

My challenge to anyone shouting "RACIST!" is to ask whether they've ever had a demeaning thought about someone's/anyone's race...ever made a joke or a remark at any time among friends. At best no one denies they have, but many refuse to confirm they have. Times change. Mores change. Minds change. I don't defend racism. I do detest "RACISM!"

These are caricatures reflecting the times in which they were drawn. Everyone was drawn as a cartoonish version of their real selves. Once again, the PC police need to stop applying 2021 standards to things that happened or were created in the past. The past will never live up to todays Woke standards! If you look in old National Geographic Magazines you will see real life pictures that accurately reflect the cartoon versions of the Dr. Seuss drawings. Maybe we should get rid of National Geographic Magazine also.

Disney and Warner Brothers (Bugs Bunny) did some super racist depictions of our Japanese and German enemies in WW2, no doubt the USA produced racist caricatures in propaganda posters, and the USA detained Japanese Americans and others (Germans, Italians) in internment camps. Shouldn't someone be held accountable? Let's tear it all down so we can have a New World Order, as they demand.

He was a Democrat of his times. He grew up with the Clan supporting Liberals, made himself available to FDR's propaganda pysh for WW2 and changed his spots during the 60s, just like the rest of them.

He was a man OF HIS TIME AND ERA who later REPENTED and fought FOR civil rights. Society THEN was far more comfortable portraying racial stereotypes (what Warner Brothers Merrie Melodies / Looney Tunes or Disney cartoon portrayed members of the Axis in any sympathetic way?) And yet - DURING WWII Hollywood still managed to portray some of the downtrodden in positive, hopeful ways (Charlie Chan mysteries, Chinese children pledging Allegiance to the US flag in 30 Seconds Over Tokyo. Pfft. Please tell me Nazi propaganda films didn't stereotype Jews and other 'undesirables' as rats or caricatured their physical features.
America matured in a racial sense after WWII by passing Brown vs Board of Education in the mid 1950s and with the painful civil rights movement of the 1960s. America continues to evolve and has never become stagnant or complacent when it comes to racial matters - which is more that could be said of other 'enlightened' countries.

Interesting how the Democrat party wants to talk about "progress" and "moving forward", has a propensity to keep bringing up the past, particularly 50-70 years old past.

And yet Garry Trudeau goes untouched by his Aunt Jemima portrayal of Condoleezza Rice when she was in GHW Bush's cabinet. The drawings were offensive. The facial characteristics exaggerated. They went on for months. Column after column. Yet I can't find them on the internet at all. It's like they've been scrubbed.
You can get away with anything if you are in with the DC crowd. And Trudeau is well married into it.

That's it. Cancel everything. Forget everything. Nothing lives up to our standards.
In China folk eat with chopsticks. They don't have orthodontia. So what?
Africans and Pacific Islanders do not wear coats and ties. So what?
150 years ago there was an entertainment called Vaudeville. Scantily clad women alternated with people making jokes about other races. Some white men appeared with black makeup on their faces. Jokes were made about Russians, Germans, Poles, Japanese, Chinese, Africans, women, old people, young people, and even the British.
Is that a reason to delete Al Jolson from history? Is that a reason to delete Huckleberry Finn (best novel ever about racism) from memory? Jim turns out to be a lot more moral than Tom.
I have an idea. Let us cancel all of Greek culture. Do away with Euclid, Aristotle, Socrates, Plato, Eratosthenes. Greeks had slaves. Forget the Iliad and the Odyssey. Stop teaching all that terrible stuff.
Let us stick to cultures which did not have slaves.
Minor problem: there are no cultures without slaves.
Just stop teaching history altogether.
There.
Fixed it.
