As if the winter darkness doesn't present its own health challenges in a non-pandemic year, a recent study suggests that the sun's lack of intensity in the coldest months of this year might also be enhancing the transmission of COVID-19. However, that also means good news may be on the horizon, literally, as an increase in sunlight could shine hope in the battle against coronavirus transmission. As researchers continue to expand their understanding of the role weather elements such as ultraviolet (UV) radiation play in the spread of the pandemic, a new study says understanding the factor it plays is

Face it, COVID is the new Climate Change. Will be around forever, and it causes everything.

When Trump said the virus would start to go away in the summer, he was mocked.

Only a very few minutes of sunlight each day - 10 to 30 minutes relative to skin sensitivity - gives each of us sufficient Vitamin D. And Vitamin D apparently helps with Covid.
My Dad’s live was saved during his bout with the Spanish flu in 1918 by his smart, gutsy Army nurse who moved his bed outside of the sick ward where he’d been confined with other flu sufferers.

Agree, #1. Covid also apparently cures everything people used to die of. Death rates for all the usual suspects, heart disease, diabetes, strokes, etc. have all plummeted. Covid cures those before it kills. And Covid also must be neutralizing the seasonal flu since those numbers are way down as well. A doctor said the Covid restrictions are responsible for the low seasonal flu numbers. But if those restrictions are working so well for flu why aren't they working for Covid? Might there be another reason? All Covid all the time.

Yeah well I wouldn't deduce too much about the connection between sunlight and covid transmission. We Zonies are surrounded by deep blue skies and sun at least 320 days per year. A few weeks ago, Maricopa County (PHX) was labeled the covid hotspot of the WORLD. How could that be if sunlight slows the transmission? Being outdoors is one thing, but jumping to the conclusion that sunlight is the fix is another.

This is not a new assumption. Look at the decrease in cases last summer. More light, and warmer temps slowed the spread. As soon as the clocks were turned back, the cases started to rise.

Don’t worry the word is that Biden is readying an Executive Order that is mandating more sunlight after he wakes up from his nap.

If you read,.. you were told this in March 2020. They said transmission was hard outside and that sunlight and Vitamin D acted against the virus. Not really new.

Vitamin D. Human skin makes Vitamin D when exposed to sunlight.
I am sure that UV helps destroy viruses on surfaces, too. But Vitamin D is the key to keeping your immune system up to par.

We need a lot more "Sunlight" on our Federal Government too. It would go a long way to killing much more pernicious "viruses" that come our way.

I remain concerned about what I will call the 'Kung Flu mask syndrome.'
Using a stale mask all day, especially when doing physical work, keeps the mask moist, and serves as a petri dish, harboring bacteria.
I would compare it to the origin of Legionairre's Disease, where the national convention was held in Philadelphia, and the cooling system at the hotel was growing that unique bacterium.
And when I see someone outdoors, no one else in sight, wearing a mask, I am amused. and saddened.

Jeopardy question for $500....What is Vitamin D? Many of our fellow “ white supremists” have been telling our friends to boost their vitamin D either by supplants or being outdoors since last January. So fun to be a radical!

Reducing testing cycles to 30 in the lab, as recommended by WHO one hour after Biden was inaugurated, will so dramatically reduce false positives (reported as "cases") it will end the pandemic.

Well Duh, and how many of us here and elsewhere already knew this, but the so called experts mocked our opinions? Remember all the people who got harassed by cops when they were walking alone on the beach, or in a park?

In the summer, you have to spend only a few minutes out in the sunshine to get adequate amounts of Vitamin D. But in the winter, it would take several hours. Therefore, you really do need to take a Vitamin D supplement in the winter months.

It shouldn't take a scientific study to figure this out. 100 years ago the flu pandemic was alleviated by moving patients outdoors to get fresh air and sunshine.
