NYPD Should Stop Making Traffic

New York's attorney general on Friday recommended the New York Police Department get out of the business of routine traffic enforcement, a radical change she said would prevent encounters like one last year in the Bronx that escalated quickly and ended with an officer fatally shooting a motorist. Attorney General Letitia James, who acts as a special prosecutor appointed to investigate certain police killings, argued that traffic stops for minor infractions often end in violence and that Allan Feliz's death last October after he was pulled over for a seat belt violation “further underscores the need for this change.” James’

This woman is such a nutcase. Vehicular crimes would skyrocket if people knew they could not get pulled over.

People who live in high-crime neighborhoods must love officials like Attorney General Letitia James-they feel truly abandoned by the system that's supposed to protect them. All of this flows from the false narrative of aggressive over-policing. Look at how there is now skyrocketing burglary going on in San Francisco-they don't enforce quality of life crimes, they allow vagrants to defecate, and being overly permissive towards crime it -shockingly! - rises. LIberalism is truly stupid.

I've been pulled over by the police a handful of times during my "driving career" and each time I made sure I was polite to the officer and he/she could always see my hands (as my kids became drivers I imparted that same wisdom onto them). I suspect that if anyone who is pulled over followed that method there would seldom if ever be a violent outcome. It ain't that complicated.

Key word 'routine' traffic stops. Depending on the definition I have no problem with this proposal. I'd suspect that those who'd commit NON 'routine' violations are by far the most likely to start serious trouble anyway. But I agree with this if only to get police out of menial tasks. The rub is that who amongs us would like to get a ticket in the mail from a camera enforcement system or someone we'd NOT be able to whine our way out of a ticket?

Oh, by the way, I am sure insurance rates are not cheap in NY now - what will happen to the rates when there is no traffic enforcement. Yes, the rates will sky rocket - hurting the average New Yorker. Insurance rates will go up on limousine services, but the cost will be absorbed by the owners, and all of the limousine liberals will still drive around promoting clean energy and social justice at parties in the Hamptons.

This AG isn't very bright. Once people start ignoring seat belt laws with impunity and lack of consequence, the next argument will be: Why not roll through stop signs and red lights when a motorist determines (via their shaky judgment) it's "safe"? Same for many other rules of the road. People who are lousy on ethics in general will become lackadaisical about other stuff. Turn signals broke/bulb out? No rush to get them fixed - if ever. The roads will become the Wild West. At the same time, minor traffic accidents will begin yielding severe injuries in instances that would have yielded no, or minor, injuries - taxing the hospital and healthcare systems, and raising insurance rates. As I say, this AG isn't very bright - forget prescient, astute, imaginative, or - for that matter - ethical. I hope New York can figure out that she needs to be replaced and that they get that process underway.

If the PDNY stops making traffic stops that city will become a free range for speeders, the disregarding of traffic signals, and reckless driving. I'm sure that the automobile insurance companies will just go along with the massive increase in traffic accidents without any price spike retribution against policyholders in general if this Attorney General's recommendation against police traffic stops becomes a fact of life in NYC.

Lately speed cameras and redlight cameras have popped up like weeds around the city. The city reduced street speeds to 25mph. The state has posted troopers on the bridges and tunnels (if the troopers ticket you the state gets the revenue not the city - part of the pissing match between Idiot Cuomo and Moron de Blasio.) Who needs traffic stops when you just mail a bill to the offender.

Traffic stops are not necessarily routine. When a drunk drives starts crossing the mid-stripe, that can cause headon collisions. When someone drives 100 mph in a 30 mph zone, that can causes deadly accidents. When someone doesn't repair their vehicle and sprays the highway with oil, those behind cannot breathe. There are a lot of reasons to have cops.

Less than six weeks before the election, one of the most profound disappointments among some of Joe Biden’s supporters is that he doesn’t even seem to be trying. If some Democrats are correct, crushing “The Donald” should have been easy. After all (according to them), President Trump is an impeached, sex-offending, tax-evading, white supremacist, coronavirus-mismanaging, sexist, racist, Islamophobic, homophobic, misogynistic, sexist liar who is wildly unpopular. And Biden has long showed a hefty advantage in the polls. If all of that’s true, then Biden need do little more than show up, and winning should be a piece of cake
