The single biggest U.S. mass shooting of 2020 occurred over the weekend in Washington, but because the story didn't "help the Biden campaign," it went largely unreported on, Tucker Carlson said Monday.
"Twenty-one people were shot in this single incident ... more than half of them were women. One was a D.C. Police officer. It was the single biggest mass shooting in America this year and yet you probably heard nothing about it," the "Tucker Carlson Tonight" host said. More than half of Democrats do not believe Joe Biden would serve all four years as president should the 77-year-old be elected this November. In a poll by Rasmussen Reports, some 59% of possible voters believe that whomever is chosen as Biden's vice president would take over before the end of his first term in 2025. And 49% of Democrats who responded to the survey suggested that many are not fussed who takes over the presidency, so long as it's not President Trump.

The Seattle City Council voted Monday to move forward with a controversial proposal that would begin the process of defunding the police department.
The 7-1 vote comes despite objections from the city's police chief, mayor and the Seattle Police Officers' Guild.
The plan would ultimately slash funding to the department but not the 50% some had sought. Seattle currently has around 1,400 police officers, and the current plan would see about 100 cut. It was also cut the police department's $400 million budget by about $3 million, according to KOMO.

Harris is a tested and proven campaigner who will work her backside off to get Biden elected. That said, the vice presidency is not the job she should go for — asking to be considered as attorney general in a Biden administration would be more like it.Being picked for the vice presidency is obviously a huge honor, and if Biden wins, Harris would make history by being the first woman to hold the job. Even in a volatile political year with endless crosscurrents, once voters actually start casting their ballots it seems reasonable to assume that one traditional factor will still motivate most voters: Which candidate can create more prosperity? On this score, President Trump had an impressive weekend, and his achievements shine in contrast to Joe Biden’s week of embarrassing stumbles.
On Friday, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released the July jobs report, revealing that America added 1.8 million new hires and lowered the national unemployment rate to 10.2%. This report registers as the third-highest month ever, and the combined three-month total of new jobs created stands at 9.3 million.

For the entirety of the 2020 campaign, President Trump’s team has barked that the polling is wrong, over-represents Democrats, under-represents Republicans, doesn’t properly account for Trump partisans refusing to play along, misses the intensity of voters, or whatever.
As I have noted before, all of that may be right, but it is immaterial.
What is material is that the presidential race has been static for the last four or so months, and that is bad news for presumptive Democratic nominee Joseph R. Biden.

“People darted through broken store windows and doors along Michigan Avenue carrying shopping bags full of merchandise,” the Tribune reports, adding, “Cars dropped off more people as the crowd grew. At least one U-Haul van

In life, we encounter things which may work in theory, but not in practice. Communism is famously one of those things. Time travel is another. With any luck, Americans will soon come to realize that strict social distancing, economic lockdowns, and mask-wearing all belong in that category of supposedly sound ideas that simply don’t work in reality.
For evidence, let’s look to Sweden. As Dr. Malcolm Kendrick, an ER doctor at a hospital in Stockholm, writes on his blog, “COVID is over in Sweden. People have gone back to their normal lives and barely anyone is getting infected anymore.”

Nobody has benefitted more from the riots destroying retail stores in major cities than Amazon, which has seen the bricks and mortar competition shrinking even faster than before. And the company, founded by Jeff Bezos, has not been shy about donating $10 million to “organizations supporting justice and equity,” and subsequently increasing the total to $17 million by matching employee donations.
If Bezos thought that such virtue signaling would buy immunity for his Amazon empire from the mobs, he was mistaken. Less than 2 hours ago, Andy Ngo posted video of a Seattle mob attacking an Amazon-owned Whole Foods retail outlet

CHICAGO — Widespread damage is reported throughout Chicago after looting and rioting began around midnight Monday. Witnesses report hundreds of people smashing their way into stores throughout Michigan Avenue, areas in the South Loop and the near North Side. WGN’s Judy Wang was on the scene early and reported seeing people filling trash bags with merchandise. She also saw crowd trashing the streets outside the stores and turning over garbage cans.

Videos circulating online show widespread looting and clashes with police across Chicago’s Magnificent Mile shopping district early Monday, sparked by a police-involved shooting hours earlier that left a young male wounded. Social media users posted videos of hundreds of people looting stores such as Nordstrom, Walgreens, Macy's, Coach, Gucci and Louis Vuitton. Some exchanged gunfire with police at one point, although no officers were injured.

A top Republican senator subpoenaed FBI Director Christopher Wray on Monday to appear before the Senate and produce "all records" related to the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane investigation into Russian election interference and allegations of Trump-Russia collusion. The subpoena, a copy of which was obtained by the Washington Examiner, includes a request for the documents the FBI handed over to DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz for his damning report the surveillance of onetime Trump campaign associate Carter Page and the bureau’s reliance on British ex-spy Christopher Steele’s flawed dossier.

Senator and former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has another bright socialist idea: A 60% wealth tax on billionaires to pay for nationalized health care for a year. Such nuttiness would be easy to ignore were it not for the fact he’s now the driving intellectual force behind Joe Biden’s basement-based presidential campaign.
As any economist worth his salt will tell you, a wealth tax is perhaps the most pernicious tax, since it punishes people retroactively for their hard work, thrift and smart investments.
Not only does it dissuade people from accumulating wealth, but it also dramatically reduces the amount of

One of the points I’ve made to anyone who will listen is that the Antifa and Black Lives Matter insanity we’re seeing is a purely leftist phenomenon. (snip) The latest resurgence of the American spirit took place in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Although some of the facts around this event are contested, there are a few clear things. On Saturday, hundreds of people attended a “Back the Blue” rally to support their local police. Black-clad people, whose clothes identified them as Antifa, showed up as a counter-protest. Their presence did not sit well with some of the attendees at the pro-police rally.

President Trump has given the Democrats a surprise thrashing, hoisting them on their own petard over stimulus payments in what must be the legislative jiujitsu of the year.
According to Fox News's Liz Peek:
Furious that Democrat leaders Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer were blocking a bill to help Americans through the COVID-19 crisis, President Trump stepped up

As a former Army officer, I was sickened by reports that Russia was paying bounties for killing American soldiers fighting the Taliban in Afghanistan. In the face of credible intelligence that Russia remains determined to spread division and misinformation as U.S. elections near, the United States is justified in taking punitive action.
The challenge in formulating a meaningful response is avoiding unintended consequences. However wide the chasm between our perceived interests, the two countries are tied together economically and geo-strategically. We cannot allow our just outrage to drive policy that unintentionally hobbles the U.S.

Since that whole “George Floyd” thing happened in late May, the end of this month will officially mark one full season of nationwide (and, even worldwide) rioting to protest the perceived racial injustices of this Noble Blackman’s unfortunate passing. We were led to believe right out of the gate that racist white cops hunted down and seized this chocolate-tinted gentle giant for no other reason than the color of his skin, slammed him to the ground, and then knelt on his neck long enough to asphyxiate him despite his repeated pleas that he couldn’t breathe.

Remember how Donald Trump was totally doomed just a couple weeks ago? Grandpa Badfinger was ridin’ high down in his basement and the GOP was going to be destroyed in November. All the smart people of smartness who make up liberal blue check Twitter tweeted it so it had to be true.
Good times.
And then last week it all changed, turning 180 on a dime as Biden stomped on his Pelosi. It’s looking good for Trump and the Republicans again, and while there will be twists n’ turns, and while we best not get cocky (Hat Tip: Glenn “Instapundit” Reynolds) the victory most of us patriots expect

White House trade adviser Peter Navarro is sure President Trump's recent executive actions on coronavirus relief will pass any legal challenge against them.
"I’m confident that every single one of those orders, which cleared through the Office of Legal Counsel, will stand up," Navarro said Sunday on NBC's Meet the Press.
Over the weekend, Trump signed an executive order and memorandums regarding economic relief for those who have faced job losses and financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Trump's move came after Congress failed to reach a deal to pass a second relief package.

Jimmy Lai, a prominent publisher and pro-democracy leader in Hong Kong, was arrested Monday on charges of foreign collusion under a new national security law sharply criticized by the United States.
The 71-year-old founder of the Apple Daily outlet and a longtime antagonist of communist China was taken in custody as police raided his newsroom seeking documents. Lai was already facing other charges related to his organization of protests last year, but the new counts sent shockwaves through Hong Kong.
Lai's arrest was part of a larger police operation.

I didn’t set out to compost Sean Hannity. It was something I settled on after considering several other options and rejecting them one by one. The first was leaving him in the basement indefinitely. That worked for a while. I could almost forget about him there, but then I would go down with a basket of laundry and see him and think, I have to do something.
I should explain: I don’t mean the man himself, but Hannity the book. It’s called “Let Freedom Ring: Winning the War of Liberty Over Liberalism.”
It’s part of a collection I have: right-wing culture war books from the Fox-News-angry-White-person’s superhero universe.

It pains the New York Times to admit it, but this Summer, Fox News is dominating prime time television:
In June and July, Fox News was the highest-rated television channel in the prime-time hours of 8 to 11 p.m. Not just on cable. Not just among news networks. All of television. The average live Fox News viewership in those hours outstripped cable rivals like CNN, MSNBC and ESPN, as well as the broadcast networks ABC, CBS and NBC, according to Nielsen.

A new, exhaustive study by Gallup and the Knight Foundation found that Americans across the board are losing trust in the media. Some people might be shocked by this finding, but I suspect more people will be shocked to learn that the media had any trust left to lose.
Either way, I think a separate poll conducted by Gallup might illuminate the problem.
If you’ve paid any attention to the news, particularly cable news, over the last couple of months since George Floyd’s killing by police in Minneapolis, you might think “defunding” or “abolishing” the police is a widely held and even somewhat mainstream desire.

A convoy consisting of thousands of bikers headed for a South Dakota rally will not be allowed to cross Cheyenne River Sioux checkpoints on their way to the event, according to a Native American spokesman.
The spokesman said Saturday that the band of travelers would be stopped on their way to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, in the name of preventing coronavirus from spreading any further.
The seven tribes that make up the Sioux Nation are now in a fight with federal and state officials, who deemed such checkpoints to be illegal.

The Babylon Bee reported last week that presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden said he couldn’t wait to find out who he’d picked for a running mate. Neither can we because the element of truth underlying the Bee’s report is Ol’ Joe’s not-so-great cognitive abilities indicates that if the Dems take the White House, Biden’s vice president could quickly become president.
The political pressure to create the first female president of the United States will be overwhelming, perhaps enough to dump Biden in his first year in office.

Hillary Clinton joined the chorus of Democrats blasting President Trump’s executive orders on Saturday – calling them “a stunt” and “unconstitutional.”
Clinton, the 2016 Democrat presidential nominee, weighed in on Trump’s executive orders during an appearance on MSNBC’s “AM Joy.”
“It's a stunt,” she said. "There's no doubt about it, it's most likely, as even Republican senators have said, unconstitutional, bypassing the Congress, trying to spend money that he has no authority to direct."

Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown has urged Sen. Kamala Harris to "politely decline" a spot on Joe Biden's ticket if the 2020 presumptive Democratic nominee chooses her as his running mate.
In an op-ed headlined "Brown: Kamala Harris should say no to vice presidency" published by the San Francisco Chronicle on Saturday, Brown, who has openly discussed his past extramarital relationship with Harris, urged her to reject the vice presidency and request instead to be considered for the role of attorney general in a Biden administration. "Harris is a tested and proven campaigner who will work her backside off to get Biden elected," Brown wrote.

About a quarter-million motorcycle riders are expected to descend upon the town of Sturgis, South Dakota, taking part in the 10-day annual rally that kicked off on Friday. The rally is not a left-wing protest, so the media is criticizing attendees for not wearing facemasks and participating in a large gathering amid the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic.
The mainstream media and even medical officials have decided that the best way to avoid contracting the Wuhan coronavirus is to participate in left-wing protests. Crossing back and forth over the border between Mexico and the United States is seemingly another harmless exercise.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Sunday told ABC News' George Stephanopoulos that he took issue with the four Wuhan Coronavirus Executive Orders President Donald Trump signed on Saturday. Specifically, Schumer takes issue with the president's EO dropping unemployment benefits from $600 a week to $400 a week. States will kick in $100 a week towards a person's unemployment benefits.
"Unfortunately, the president's executive orders described in one word could be parliamentarian, in three words unworkable, weak and far too narrow," Schumer said.
"The $600 a week has been very successful. It's kept millions of people out of poverty. It's pumped more money into the economy," he explained.
