As the Black Lives Matter movement gained steam, so did the push to remove Confederate monuments, with more memorials having been taken down since George Floydâs death than in the past three years combined. Across the U.S., 119 Confederate statues and monuments have been removed since the end of May. In 2017, 55 were removed, while 34 were taken down in 2018 and 21 in 2019, according to a new study.(Snip) BeenVerified used 2019 data from the Southern Poverty Law Center and 2020 media reports to calculate the removals. More than 1,650 Confederate monuments and symbols, which include the Confederate flag, remain in place.

The history has not been thrown in the trash. Robert E. Lee himself said that it was inappropriate to memorialize the Confederacy.

This oughta help the bLACK community real well I hear crime is down, illegitimacy down, single moms are declining in numbers, and they are applying for jobs in record numbers.
Whoda think it that the removal of those old statues of dead white guys would start the healing process.
Mega sarcasm.

What did all those old Confederate memorials and statues have to do with George Floyd getting high on fentanyl and meth., then trying to pass a counterfeit $20.00 bill, getting detained, resisting the police, and having a fatal heart attack that killed him? Am I missing something?

About a decade ago, I drove down Monument Avenue in Richmond and I have to admit it was an attractive area--a setting that an American city would be proud of. Images of that location today looks like a war zone in a third-world country, and should bring shame to the leadership of that city. And the reality is, despite the satisfaction of the vandals, racial relations have not changed one bit--but maybe the answer is to burn offensive books in the streets. The mood is totally to destroy--and not to in any way improve anything.

George Floyd was a vile thug and got what he deserved. Not a solitary tear should be shed for that pos.

Of the 119 Confederates whose statues were taken down, how many were Democrats? My guess is all of them.

The Confederacy was a lot more honorable and proud than the corrupt kleptocracy we are ruled by now. Those monuments are a reminder that there was once something better and more decent than what we have now. Communism must remove all hope in order to get its talons in.

Slavery? There was no slavery. If there was slavery there would be some sort of historical record. s/o

The lie-beral American Taliban strikes over and over again!!!
I guess when Civil War 2 starts, the lie-berals think it will be easier if Americans don't remember Civil War 1.

It is amazing how we got distracted from police over use of force and brutality into trying to revise the history of the United States by taking down monuments which have NOTHING to do with police brutality.
The socialist/Antifa crowd took over black lives matter attempting to create some sort of moral equivalency of destruction of order to helping blacks and the convoluted idea that this is going to change anything...
Now we have people advocating anarchy and good people who could feel safer with police protection are put into more dangerous situation by gangs of people who take and destroy and attack for no justifiable reason.
Getting rid of Southern things will bring a price to bear. My family came from England in the mid-1700's to a Georgia debtor's prison and were too destitute to own any slaves, and this issurection against police and law and order will not stand.
Remember in November.

I have been on Monument Ave many times. It was a beautiful street divided by these monuments with old homes on either side. This breaks my heart. They weren't just 'statues' they were founders of this country, war heroes and most of all, our ancestors.
I demand all of the statues of MLK Jr come down. He was a whoremonger and women should be offended.
You should be offended that every street with his name is in a ghetto.

A significant aspect of US history has been thrown in the trash because our government allows the Marxists at the Southern Poverty Law Center (which existed to put money in Morris Dees' pockets) to define our national culture, to the point of paying them to track so-called hate groups (meaning, anyone disliked by Marxists). And what was gained?
