A convoy consisting of thousands of bikers headed for a South Dakota rally will not be allowed to cross Cheyenne River Sioux checkpoints on their way to the event, according to a Native American spokesman.
The spokesman said Saturday that the band of travelers would be stopped on their way to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, in the name of preventing coronavirus from spreading any further.
The seven tribes that make up the Sioux Nation are now in a fight with federal and state officials, who deemed such checkpoints to be illegal.

Do these Indians realize that these are not a bunch of panty waist lie-beral snowflakes, but a bunch of big strong tough men who don't put up with anyone or anything messing with their rights?!?!?
I can't see an illegal roadblock working for more than about .000001 seconds given that fact!!!

Crazy. Just drive through them. Just another liberal stunt. These reservations could not give a hoot about the virus.

Messing with thousands of bikers on their way to a week-long party. It's no wonder these people were soundly defeated and now live on reservations. That is a SPECIAL kind of stupid.

Ordinarily I would side with the Indians. They were herded onto these lands and told they were sovereign Indian territory that they could govern. Problem is, white man is still paying them to be Indians and maintaining the roads, so they aren't sovereign. And this bunch seems too dumb to govern themselves anyway.
If they mess with those animals, covid will be the least of their worries.

A few thousand bikers already in Sturgis could come from the other direction to open the bridges and rescue their brothers. I wouldn't want to be in their way.

These Indians aren't Sitting Bull and Crazy Horse. These are cradle-to-grave welfare recipients talking a good game about warrior culture and the good old days but in reality living hand-to-mouth.

I wonder how the Sioux Nation would like it if another group setup check points blocking travel into and out of the Sioux Nation?

It has nothing to do with the Wuhan flu. It is politically motivated. They are in bed with the communist Nazi left.
They know where their money comes from and won't bite the hand that feeds them.
They need to start their own WalkAway movement.

Ordinarily, I would say the U.S. Supreme Court would rule against the Sioux.
But after Gorsuch threw in with the 3 witches of Washington and babbling Breyer on the Oklahoma crimes case, I'm not so sure.

I grew up in this area. Trust me, there are plenty of ways to get to Sturgis, SD, without going through this particular reservation. The real question is why the obvious tribal power play is getting any media attention. It doesn't matter and doesn't change a thing. Anyone who wants to go to the Sturgis rally will get there.

If this reservation has a casino, like most reservations, the bikers can go around it, and all would be gamblers can be stopped before they get to the reservation border. Wait to see who squeals first!

If the roads are state and Federal public roads, the Indians of any tribe should have no right whatsoever to block anything. Until they actually join the rest of us as a welcome part of the nation, they are acting illegally as far as I am concerned. When they start losing revenue at all their casinos from this behavior, they might start rethinking their positions about this.

Whose the first to ride up and open fire if necessary to clear the way to a motorcycle bacchanalia? Anyone?
Those rough, tough bikers are mostly middle aged insurance salesmen and dentists looking to scare old ladies and impress friends and family by looking the part and acting a bit bawdy. I would expect the state or Feds to keep the major roads open to travelers. Big $$$ talks.

Does the Sioux Nation rely on federal or state subsidies?
Silly people! Perhaps they should have planned to have the bikers help them. How many bikers would have volunteered to help build homes, schools? Use their engineering/electrical/HVAC skill sets? Develop friendly relationships? Etc?
Would the bikers have bought items that the various Indian tribes make? (
(ie jewelry, home decor)
It looks like the Indians have shot themselves in the foot.

Stocking up on popcorn! This should be fun, although many "bikers" are largely middle class comfortable people these days, as #25 says. But, many are *not*.

Bikers and Indians. Wow. This is even more of a mismatch than it was the first time. At least then, both sides had horses.
