President Donald Trump and four ex-presidents have all released statements responding to the news that U.S. Rep. John Lewis died Friday night at age 80. Trump, who also ordered flags at the White House and on federal property to be flown at half-staff on Saturday, said on Twitter he is “saddened” to hear Lewis was gone and sent prayers to his family. The president’s statement belied the often antagonist relationship he had with the Democratic congressman from Atlanta.

Any time he was cited or quoted, there was always the compulsory introduction of “Civil rights icon” John Lewis. It became tiresome and outdated. Don’t miss him, but requiescat in pace.

Maybe Lewis was the one antagonistic towards Trump. He traded on his Civil Rights Movement cred during his entire congressional career, and did everything he could to keep his people ensnared in noisy victimhood. Trump did more for the blacks than Lewis and his aging SJWs ever did. As Reagan said, "The best social program is a productive job for anyone who’s willing to work.” Trump delivered. Lewis, Obama and the other grievance-mongers did not.

Maybe its just a time to send sympathy to his family and mourn the passing of this man, beloved by many. Wasn't among mine the past 20-30 years, but God rest his soul.

The FoxNews/AP report on his death this morning mentioned all living former presidents before ending with Lewis quoting his personal attacks on Trump. His funeral will put the Paul Wellstone funeral to shame. Expect Biden to be there, unless they have him send a recorded message.

John Lewis will win his 18th term in November. His grieving widow will channel his votes through a spirit guide.
May God have mercy on his soul. RIP.

John Lewis never passed up the opportunity to speak in a most degrading and insulting manner about President Trump.
Today President Trump, in a most classy manner, spoke well of Lewis, and ordered the flags to half-mast as a tribute to him.
Donald Trump is a big man.
I could not be such a big man in this instance.

Well put, #2.
And yes, we pray for his family and that he had made his peace with the Eternal Judge.
However, he was bitter and spiteful, as he sat in Congress for 33 years. That is sad. If there is ever to be peace and reconciliation, our fellow Americans who are black, need to stop reminding themselves and everyone else that their ancestors were once enslaved. I think it's psychologically unhealthy, especially given the fact that the vast majority joined the very Party with the history of slavery, trying to defeat the Union in order to keep it, and then became the perpetuators of segregation, the Democrat Party.
RIP, Congressman Lewis

How fortunate of him. Never had a real job throughout his entire life. Milked the system and became a millionaire by living off government entitlements, extorting race card money from corporations, and a vote fraud for making promises he never delivered to make life better for the blacks and their community.

Spare me the faux sorrow and sympathy for this corrupt, racist prime example of a Black Caucus Democrat Communist Ghetto Plantation Overseer who betrayed his black constituents. Just look at the horrendous results of his years of serving in Congress - the destruction of the black nuclear family, ghettos, welfare dependency, gun violence, fatherless children, ingrained victimhood and low self esteem. We are supposed to mourn this dreadful persons finally going to meet his just desserts in Satan's realm? Why? Say hi to Teddy Kennedy and rest of the democrat demons when you reach your final destination, Lewis, in one of the lower circles of hell. Make sure there is a seat reserved there for Nancy Pelosi.
Good riddance. He hated America.

Frankly I'm glad he's dead. There, I said it for everyone who can't or won't say it.
He always looked like he smelled bad. Probably because he was a Nazi riding around on his "civil rights" plastic laurels.
From the looks of the hourly reports coming out of the Nazi run cities of this once great nation it should be renamed the "uncivil rights" movement. Wadda waste. I would like to think that the Americans of every background who were part of the original movement are mortified by what it became. Dr. King, the Delaney sisters, Hattie McDaniel, they could teach these monsters a few lessons.

I never heard anything from Lewis but racial hatred, threats, and extortion. Lewis should be buried at sea, along with bin Laden, and in similar fashion.

Lewis was a Grade A huckster. Freedom fighter? He supported any and all job-killing, dependency-enhancing expansions of government power. He was a despicable liar regarding the President and the Republican Party that DID do the fighting to end Democrat Party Jim Crow laws and discrimination, and now he will be used to push an outrageous reparations program.

In his younger years, he bravely fought the real evil of segregation, but in his last years it seemed he was only opposing phantoms.

I wonder how many stores will be looted and burned, how many statues will be torn down and how many blacks will kill other blacks during his funeral.

I remember when he showed up at an Occupy Wall Street "event" and offered to speak to the crowd. They humiliated him by letting everyone vote (with their thumb clicks) on whether or not to let him take the mike. It was hilariously repulsive. I show this clip to students to tell them what unadulterated democracy looks like.

That said, a life has ended and I send condolences to his family.

Personally, I couldn't tell the difference between the two. Both bald and black, both democrat congressman, both civil rights icon, both hid behind race card mantra, both millionaire through extortion, both kept black people poor with undelivered promises, and both had a contract to serve with the Devil.

After agreeing with the previous posts here, we offer this.
My best memory of this huckster will always be him loudly proclaiming,
"They want to throw all your babies into the ditch!"
John Lewis always had a way with words.

Made a name for him in the 1960s Civil Rights Movement. Went into politics. Only useful accomplishment is destroy the political career of Julian Bond. After the 2016 election referred to The Beast as Madam President and refused to acknowledge that PT is our president. Spent his entire career in congress lecturing us on how fortunate we were to know him. Not a person I admire.
