Dave Barry’s Year in Review: 2020
was a year of nonstop awfulness

Original Article

We’re trying to think of something nice to say about 2020. OK, here goes: Nobody got killed by the murder hornets. As far as we know. That’s pretty much it. In the past, writing these annual reviews, we have said harsh things about previous years. We owe those years an apology. Compared to 2020, all previous years, even the Disco Era, were the golden age of human existence. This was a year of nonstop awfulness, a year when we kept saying it couldn’t possibly get worse, and it always did.

Comments:

What good happened in 2020? Dave missed the conjunction between Jupiter and Saturn which went off without a hitch.

In just a few days, 2020 will be of legal age to drink. Just saying. 2021 should be very interesting.

Dave is right. A horrible year all around. But the worst thing I can imagine is that next year we will be looking back at this year as “the good old days”.

A long article, but Dave Barry doing what he does best. Example: "Joe Biden makes history by choosing Kamala Harris as his running mate; if elected, she would become the first U.S. vice president whose name can be rearranged to spell “I Alarm A Shark.” "

A couple of chuckles, but not much else. Too bad his "deadline" caused him to miss the vaccine.

Dave just improves with age. Had me falling off my chair. Too many high points. Like the Iowa Caucuses with the 737Max software. And the history of MARPRIL written in one long breathless run-on sentence. And the toilet paper, holding the year together.

Very humorous but quite long. Did I really want to relive the year? Meghan and Harry weren't really beheaded by the Queen, but ... maybe in 2021.

Dave Barry, as a rule, owed it to 2020 to be as boring as possible and to miss several opportunities. I read his annual reviews anyway. Seven more days to endure this mess. Then the troubles come.

Rahim Sivji leaves the register, walks back to the stockroom and sits on a waist-high pillar of Sprite. He leans his elbow on a slightly taller stack of Coke and takes a deep breath. Sivji has owned this Exxon station at the corner of Flat Shoals and Gresham roads — southwestern DeKalb County, not far from East Atlanta proper — for more than two decades. He’s still there seven days a week, does a little bit of everything. He says he wants to die working. But on this warm day in late February, he says he’s under contract to sell the store.

The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) recently encouraged teachers to register for training that encourages "ethnomathematics" and argues, among other things, that White supremacy manifests itself in the focus on finding the right answer. An ODE newsletter sent last week advertises a Feb. 21 "Pathway to Math Equity Micro-Course," which is designed for middle school teachers to make use of a toolkit for "dismantling racism in mathematics." The event website identifies the event as a partnership between California's San Mateo County Office of Education, The Education Trust-West and others.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Joe Biden turned 78 on Friday. In exactly two months, he'll take the reins of a politically fractured nation facing the worst public health crisis in a century, high unemployment and a reckoning on racial injustice. As he wrestles with those issues, Biden will be attempting to accomplish another feat: Demonstrate to Americans that age is but a number and he's up to the job. Biden will be sworn in as the oldest president in the nation’s history, displacing Ronald

It was a deputy sheriff, there to serve him divorce papers from his wife. As part of the proceedings, he would have to vacate the home they shared. After flirting with renting a nearby place, the Democrat decided to move in with family in Indiana – and abruptly abandon his congressional bid for an open seat against Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene. Van Ausdal didn’t initially want to share those details, which were provided with his approval Friday by his campaign aide, Michael McGraw.

Who needs comedy when you have politics? In the months leading up to the 2020 presidential election, a 2009 HBO clip of late comedian and actor Robin Williams talking about then-Vice President Joe Biden has resurfaced online, quickly going viral on Twitter. In the 30-second video, Williams, who would have turned 69 last month, doesn’t mince words. “There’s always ramblin’ Joe Biden,” said Williams in a stand-up routine. “Joe says s - - t that even people with [Tourette syndrome] go, ‘No.’ ” The resurfaced bit began circulating this week, and it came just days before Biden — the presumptive Democratic nominee — gave a disastrous interview with black and Hispanic journalists.

As we reported two days ago, Joe Biden completely made no sense when he was trying to explain the Wuhan coronavirus relief bill. It was really bad and it explains why they’re afraid to have him deliver an address to Congress or do any kind of a real solo press conference, because at this point they have to be afraid this is all going to fall apart if he does anything live and this all becomes too obvious to the American people. But there’s only so long that they can hold this off. And it’s getting worse, as video today revealed. Biden was holding an event to announce the nomination

Nancy Pelosi’s top priority is to turn America into a one-party nation ruled by Democrats. Her bill HR 1 trashes the U.S. Constitution in an attempt to rig the system and make it virtually impossible to elect a Republican president or Congress again. It’s a power grab. The bill eviscerates state voting laws and forces all the states to conform to a set of rules that includes automatic voter registration. Anyone who goes to a DMV or applies for food stamps, Medicaid or other social services, or attends a public college will be automatically enrolled to vote. I’m probably second to none in my dislike for Meghan Markle. There’s something unattractive about a mature woman marrying into the British Royal family with one of the world’s most expensive weddings, hanging out with the Queen, living in insane luxury…and then whining non-stop about the horror of her life. There’s something even less appealing when that woman accuses the Royal family of race hatred. And the problem is that, when it comes to that left-wing diva, Meghan Markle, it’s hard to believe most of what she says. After weeks of hype, CBS finally televised Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah.
