Oregon promotes teacher program
that seeks to undo 'racism in
mathematics'

Original Article

Posted By: snakeoil, 2/12/2021 10:06:21 PM

The Oregon Department of Education (ODE) recently encouraged teachers to register for training that encourages "ethnomathematics" and argues, among other things, that White supremacy manifests itself in the focus on finding the right answer. An ODE newsletter sent last week advertises a Feb. 21 "Pathway to Math Equity Micro-Course," which is designed for middle school teachers to make use of a toolkit for "dismantling racism in mathematics." The event website identifies the event as a partnership between California's San Mateo County Office of Education, The Education Trust-West and others.

Comments:

If I lived in Oregon I'd move into an insane asylum for safety.

How does anyone see racism in math? Where's the racism? You either understand it, or you don't. People who believe this nonsense, have no place in education. However, a padded room with a daily dose of meds can be found for these nut jobs.

Yep, I would want one of these students drawing up drugs for me if I was a patient. I guess as long as the student has good intentions and tried to draw up the correct amount, it’s all good. Can’t tell the difference between mcg and mg. No problem. This is stupid and dangerous.

What could ethnomathematics possibly be except dumb math? The zero came from one place, calculus from another, geometry from various, etc. etc. It's math as ebonics.

The Right Answer means the difference between life and death in engineering projects. If Black math means not feeling compelled to find the right answer, no wonder Africa has remained centuries behind Western civilization for millennia. If you think Black Lives Matter, then understand that The Right Answer Matters.

I cannot for the life of me understand how a so-called teacher could believe that lowering standards somehow helps minority students. Except for Asians, of course. It is not a racial issue, it is a lifestyle issue. If you value education and believe in strong, loving nuclear families, you will have a greater chance of raising successful children. If you tell little Jaquan that he should not even try because the racists out there won't give him a chance, he will grow up believing that learning is pointless. I propose having a teacher stand up in front of the classroom, who will say, "Learn and be successful. Blow off school and be garbage." There is nothing racist about that statement.

Why not put energy into teaching every kid, instead of, in effect, saying some kids are too stupid to learn?? Do they think the kids will not notice? Or is it too much effort for the teachers to teach every child??

Moving from Oregon might prevent this utter insanity from being taught to your child but it won't prevent graduates taught that determining the right answer is "racist" from moving anywhere in the nation to ply their laughable (and dangerous) skills to any task where accurate math is essential to success. If this lunacy is allowed to take root and flourish it is the literal end of technology and modern civilization. One can hope that there is enough sanity still existing even among the far left to make this obvious and put down this kind of thing but these days who knows?

And for those who want to get into the space program.....they do not have to have the astronauts land ON the planet....getting close should be fine. Integration has brought great strides to education. We no longer teach History except during Black History Month, We no longer teach that words should be spelled correctly, We cannot discipline black kids because that is racist. We no longer teach Cursive,, We let boys who claim to be girls compete with girls athletics and they can pee in the girls bathroom, Now we are moving into mathematics and accusing the correct answer as being racist. Yes Integration was the greatest thing to happen to our schools.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is set on Tuesday to recommend fully vaccinated Americans wear masks indoors in at least some instances, as the more highly transmissible Delta variant of the coronavirus has led to a surge in infections, sources said. That would mark a reversal of the CDC's announcement in May that prompted millions of vaccinated Americans to shed their face coverings. The CDC will announce revised mask guidance but the specifics of when the agency will recommend fully vaccinated Americans wear masks indoors are not fully clear, the sources said.

First, I’m not a fan of obscenities because I think they cheapen speech. Second, these chants were initially small groups at Southern colleges, which really didn’t seem like a “thing.” Third, I wasn’t going to get excited until I learned whether the chants had legs. Well, it turns out they do have legs and they’re becoming large chants at multiple games (including New York baseball games). And most importantly, Joe Biden knows about them and isn’t happy.

A group of very young Trump supporters hilariously trolled Joe Biden in Shanksville, PA over the weekend – much to the horror of Biden’s handlers. NBC News reported that after attending a memorial event at ground zero, Biden visited the Flight 93 memorial in Shanksville. Apart from being part of the wreath-laying ceremony, the U.S. President also visited the local fire department. It was there when a bunch of kids approached Biden and the U.S. President was pictured surrounded by them.

The second of a pair of drone airstrikes in the waning days of the Afghanistan war is now being investigated by Central Command, but details are scarce and there remains a question of how much information will be shared once the probe is completed. “I would say that the assessment by Central Command is ongoing and I’m not gonna get ahead of that,” Pentagon Press Secretary John Kirby said during a news briefing on Monday.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s outfit at the Met Gala came with a message. The New York congresswoman wore a white gown with the phrase “Tax the Rich” emblazoned in red on the back. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has called Senator Joe Manchin 'patronizing' for referring to her as a 'young lady' as the two Democrats spar over his objections to the party's massive spending bill. Manchin appeared on CNN's State of the Union on Sunday to explain his concerns with President Joe Biden's $3.5 trillion plan for social and environmental spending, denying Ocasio-Cortez's allegation that he has 'weekly huddles' with Exxon executives.'I don't know that young lady that well, I really don't. I met her one time between sets here, but that's it. We've not had any conversations.
