While debates around reparations for the descendants of slaves often focus on costs of such action, advocates believe discussions must also address other efforts for systemic change. Financial estimates are wide-ranging depending on how they are projected and thoughts on what exactly will, or even can be paid for are also divided. "Reparations is not a check in the mail," Raymond Winbush, author of Should America Pay? Slavery and The Raging Debate on Reparations and Belinda's Petition: A Concise History of Reparations For The Transatlantic Slave Trade, told Newsweek. "We've got to look at the difference between changing symbols and

This can never happen, not simply because it is ludicrous and will bankrupt the.country. What about blacks that came here after the Emancipation Proclamation? What about mixed race people? Does Oprah get the same amount? Why should decendants of abolitionists or Yankees have to be punished?
Shame on democrats for exploiting blacks and keeping them poor and on their plantations in the inner cities. They do not want them to be educated, get married, or interact with whites because that might make them see they've been used and make them more likely to vote Republican.

I guess they want every African American to have their plantation and his cotton-pickers.
And I don't blame most of the African Americans. I blame the multi-millionaires and billionaires that plan their own Global super-plantations with the BLM, AntiFa and MS13 as their house slaves. Those are the people we should be planning to deal with now, while we can. These small fry activists are detestable little creeps but ultimately weak and easily countered, once we get the Progressives out of the way.

You can give each black American 151 million and within 1 year they will be poor again and all the entrapeneurs will get rich. Just look at the loto winners. Those that had no money before they won will be poor again within a short time.

Does it seem horrible to suggest that every black that seeks reparations be required to visit their country of "origin" to see what their life would be like had their ancestors not been brought to this country as slaves and freed from slavery by a civil war which cost the lives of 300,000 American soldiers?

Chances are there would be another Civil War before anything like that happens. It must be some covert outfit proposing that, trying to ensure Trump's re-election, as only the leftist and liberal Democrats would propose bankrupting the country in that manner.

And not only that ! You dam Americans did some awful things to us Canadians back around 1825. I have become a legal citizen but my so-called friend still refer to me as (gasp) a Canuck !!! I reckon 37.5 million in reparations ought to set that straight and my American friends agree. We've worked out the split.

There are many who like the idea of this issue but knowing it's not likely to ever happen - it's a political issue.
And, then there are others who also are afraid, that once reparations are paid, there will be no more programs or other things coming ever again.

Look what the English did to the Irish and Scottish Highlanders in olden days. I am of both Irish and Scottish ancestry of refugees who were forced to leave Ireland and Scotland for Canada, the Massachusetts Bay Colonies, and the USA. Are we going to take legal and legislative action against what is now the United Kingdom to pay reparations to the hundreds of millions of people around the world whose ancestors human rights, by today's standards, were violated by merry old England?

I am so sick and tired of hearing about what blacks should ‘get.’
None were ever slaves, and most are not remotely related to anyone who was a slave.
First generation immigrants who come to this country with nothing succeed through discipline, education and hard work.
Why can’t African Americans do the same thing?
I want an explanation for that.

My family's sacred honor is beyond any monetary award. To think that nickels and dimes could atone for all that happened in the past to people I don't even know or could locate pictures of is completely ludicrous. But if all your ancestors mean to you is money, then go for it. You are to be pitied.

If reparations aren’t enough, and they won’t be, how about public executions of the now distant relatives of the slave owners? Ancestry.com could identify most of the thousands of individuals whose relatives owned slaves prior to 1863. The executions could begin with those who owned more than a 1,000 slaves and then work downward. If it is somehow fair to pay people for what occurred 150 to 400 years ago, why not make those far removed from those events but who can be linked to them, pay the ultimate price? BLM and Antifa thugs could serve as executioners, with the heads of victims placed on the now empty pedestals of those we once honored.

How about we give all that money to the families of the Union Army soldiers who gave their lives to (ostensibly) "free the slaves?" They gave their all and got nothing for it. And by the way, what about all the Irish, Dutch, Scott, Welsh, and even British men and children slaves, who were captured and brought here before Africans? Whites were worth LESS than blacks, since they came to the colonies free of charge, and routinely got worked to death. Let's have that "conversation" about colonial slavery, shall we? However, I suggest the Black Communists Matter terrorists read up on WHITE slavery in Europe including the Barbary pirates before opening their chitterling holes.

I’m Italian and I did some research on the Idlewild Project in the 1920’s in New York
Building bridges and infrastructure
The pay scale was listed in broad daylight on a public sign
Here’s what it said 100 years ago:
Whites. $1.30 an hour
Blacks $1.20 an hour
Italians $1.10 an hour
I’ll take my $151 million check please!
This has pisst me off ALL my adult life!
I spent my life after Vietnam teaching/counseling/advising and helping any and all..despite being lower than the other two on that pay scale!
Did Black Lies Matter ever tell you THAT?

This is the worst of many really bad ideas. There is no means for justice down this avenue, and most of the troublemakers know that. The raise the expectation of blacks to a level so high that it can only lead to disappointment. When the dream is over and the day has dawned it will be time to get up and go to work. That is not to say this is no valid claim that is being raised. There is and there are laws already in place that address the root of this claim. It is the laws against discrimination based on race. If there is a legitimate complaint fill suit and prove the case.
Any other approach must neglect one side for the other. To do so is to slight the efforts of all those who fought for freedom of the slaves, the abolitionists, those who were there to bring about the civil rights laws, those immigrants who came here and were never involved in slavery, it denies the reality that no one in this country has been subjected to slavery or were ever involved in slavery - I could go on naming all who were never involved on either side of the issue and do not deserve to be lumped in with those who were and should not be punished for acts they were never committed. Those are the mitigating factors to any claim for reparations. Of course the feasibility of this issue is also a one sided affair. The actor I see show no care for what impact it would have on our country.
Here's the thing to me. All this is based on having not been treated as equals under the law. But, again, there are existing laws that provide a means to address that on an individual basis. But that's an aside, To be equal under the law is to act lawful and the are not doing so. It is to accept the answers that have been developed through our system of government. That form of government works as seen by the civil rights laws and the laws against discrimination. If that is not good enough then work through the system But this all stirring the pot seems to hinge on the one thing they can not have as it stands. They will still be only 13% of the country and it will probably shrink because of abortion and fatherless children. And you cannot buy that.
Instead I think they are producing a terrible resentment against themselves. At some point the answer has to be no. No more.It is becoming childish. To say $151 mil, is not enough and they want more is to say this wanting has no end ... time to say - no, and deal with it.

My paternal grandparents came from England in the early 1900s. My maternal great-grandparents came to the United States from Canada in the late 1800s.
None of my ancestors were involved with slavery and if they try to take "reparations" out of my tax dollars, I'll refuse to pay my taxes.
Too damn many exceptions and contradictions. This is all patent absurdity and should quit being encouraged.

Reparations essentially leading to the subjugation of a race for past injustices against another race will never work. It will only stoke racial tension to a boiling point of anarchy and violence. This may be the entire point.

Reparations would have appropriate for the actual slaves. But their ancestors, and those who emigrated here over the years since then, are still better off than being in any other country in the world. Why do they think they're entitled to ANYTHING? No one is forcing you to stay-if you can do better in Somalia, Ghana, South Africa, the Congo, Ivory Coast.....the world awaits you. The fact they they don't leave proves what hypocrites they truly are.

They'll only be as upset if you give them nothing as they will be if you give them everything up to and including the shirt off your back. You can't make them happy. You can only allow them to make you feel guilty, make you impoverished, make you bleed. Tell them where the door is. Point it out with your rifle if necessary.
