Asheville—In an extraordinary move, the City Council has apologized for the city's historic role in slavery, discrimination and denial of basic liberties to Black residents and voted to provide reparations to them and their descendants. The 7-0 vote came the night of July 14. A Michigan cop saved a weeks-old baby girl from choking — a feat chalked up to his “quick, calm” response, authorities said.
Sterling Heights Police Officer Cameron Maciejewski responded to the home last Thursday to find the distraught family holding the 3-week-old baby, who was not breathing, police said.
In dashcam footage released by police, Maciejewski can be seen taking the baby in his arms and performing back thrusts in attempts to clear the child’s airway.
The tot then coughed up whatever had been obstructing her breathing — and began to cry, police said. The object was not immediately identified.

Last night, 76-year-old radical Angela Davis was trending on Twitter due to her endorsement of 77-year-old presidential hopeful Joe Biden. Bravely we go into the future, I guess. While no politician can control who supports them, apparently numerous pundits believe that the Davis endorsement is worthy of celebration (though most also carefully avoided noting her blessing was made on Russian propaganda television).
“Why isn’t Angela Davis asked for commentary on major news channels?” wonders the Washington Post’s Wajahat Ali. Well, I’ve can think of a few reasons.
1) Davis is an unrepentant champion of domestic terrorists and murderers.
Fox News correspondent-at-large Geraldo Rivera vehemently disagreed with U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan for denying alleged Jeffrey Epstein madam Ghislaine Maxwell bail on Tuesday, claiming the judge caved to the “mob” and “chickened out.”
Maxwell, who has been charged with four counts of child sex trafficking and two counts of perjury, pleaded not guilty to the charges on Tuesday and her trial was set for July 2021. Nathan then denied Maxwell bail, meaning the accused sex trafficker will remain in custody for a year.
The other day, as summer in the city became a stifling drag, I took some time to drive out to the country. Texas is full of charming small towns with colorful names on the banks of the state’s picturesque rivers. Those towns also are home to some of the best people and food you will find anywhere.
So out I drove, into the hills and away from the city that brags about how weird it is. Day tripping wasn’t really meant to be cathartic, but given how awful this year has been, nearly anything that isn’t terrible now feels great. Taking small things for granted feels very 2019 now.
A New York Times columnist has urged likely Democratic nominee Joe Biden not to debate President Trump in the fall. Most voters think that’s a bad idea, although only just over half believe Biden is even up to debating Trump given ongoing questions about his mental health.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that 54% of Likely U.S. Voters think Biden is capable of debating the president. Thirty-six percent (36%) disagree and say he is not capable of such a debate. Another 11% are not sure.

No acknowledgement of multiple survivors of childhood sexual abuse, of her decades-long involvement with late pedophile and sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, just Cohen riding a bullet train to the really important stuff.

On March 2, the day after New York reported its first coronavirus case, Gov. Andrew Cuomo appeared on CNN, where he declared that he was “mobilizing the public health system to contain the spread.” In an interview with CNN’s John Berman, the Democratic governor said his state was “ramping up our testing capacity,” but assured viewers that “we have no reason for concern” that the COVID-19 patient, a 39-year-old woman who had just returned from Iran, had spread the virus to anyone else in New York. Cuomo added, “What I am concerned about, if anything, more than a health issue, is the perception issue and the fear issue.
At this point, maybe Hillary is tripling down or quadrupling down. She is still beating a dead horse – the loser of the 2016 presidential election wanted the viewers of Trevor Noah’s late-night television show to know that Trump’s victory was illegitimate and she has thoughts or something. She doesn’t have any new thoughts, mind you, but she is bitterly clinging to her old thoughts. Watching a video of the interview, it is easy for anyone who paid attention to the 2016 election or is old enough to remember the administration of Bill Clinton to understand the irony in most of Hillary’s answers to the softball questions asked by Noah.

Bari Weiss, a New York Times op-ed editor whose sin was not being a lockstep left-winger, has delivered a scathing indictment of the paper’s out-of-control liberal culture--in the form of a resignation letter.
Her open letter to Publisher A.G. Sulzberger might sound overheated coming from an outside critic. But Weiss, a controversial writer hired from the Wall Street Journal opinion section, says some colleagues have privately complained to her of a “new McCarthyism” at the Times.

Portland, Oregon, Mayor Ted Wheeler lashed out at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on Twitter Tuesday, urging federal agents to “stay inside” or “leave” as the city faces its sixth-straight week of protests and unrest.
“I told the Acting Secretary that my biggest immediate concern is the violence federal officers brought to our streets in recent days, and the life-threatening tactics his agents use,” Wheeler wrote Tuesday evening. “We do not need or want their help.” DHS deployed officers from multiple federal law enforcement agencies this month to protect government installations that include a courthouse and another building.

Andrew Weissmann, a top prosecutor on special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe, is seeking a re-do of sorts in the investigation, saying in an op-ed Tuesday that Roger Stone should be hauled before a grand jury to answer questions about his interactions with President Donald Trump in 2016.
Writing in The New York Times, Weissmann also pushed a false claim about the criminal charges against Stone, whose prison sentence Trump commuted on Friday.
Weissmann, who is currently an MSNBC analyst, asserted that Stone was convicted on charges of “lying to Congress about the coordination between the Trump 2016 campaign, Mr. Stone, WikiLeaks and Russia.”
