Los Angeles' perennial sonic nuisance reliably strengthens around early July, and this week our readers gave us an earful about it. Of course, I'm talking about fireworks, and even though they're illegal and considered gravely dangerous in much of tinder-dry Los Angeles County, that did not stop this year in particular from having one of the most prolonged and intense periods of intermittent neighborhood bombardment in recent memory. It goes without saying that anger over living with the explosions prompted most of the letters we received, but this year there was another common complaint among our letter writers: the lack

Leave it to the LA Times to find something to batch about. Do people call the Po-po when their neighborhood is being burned? But next year may be different: the police will be replaced by social workers.

It was a state-wide "Up Yours" to Gavin Newsom...and the limp-(wrist) Pajama Boys at the Los Angeles Times.

The "Blue Flu" was going around that weekend, probably caused by the shabby treatment.

Yeah, I think this is a perfect test of how using "social workers" to police non-violent crimes will work out.
Send a bunch of social workers in to the neighborhoods to reason with the firework offenders. And then see how long it will be until those social workers are cowering in their cars surrounded by gangs of thugs shooting off fireworks on the hoods and roofs of their cars (and probably firing bullets into their tires).
If we are starting a betting pool, I'm guessing 3 minutes from the time the first social worker approaches a group of young thugs shooting off fireworks, until that first "rescue me" call goes out to 911!!!!

I'm sure there are a few social workers who be dispatched to ensure they reason with the people shooting off fireworks.
That's what the Democrats are demanding after all, right?

The Karens around me had a hissy fit on the neighborhood bulletin board about the fireworks on the 4th, but they were outvoted by most of the residents. Liberals have ruined Halloween with their false reports of razor blades in caramel apples, and poisoned candy, and now they're going after the 4th, using veterans' PTSD and panicked dogs.

A lot of that is gunfire into the air from the "latin" neighborhoods.

How about the 'murder ban'? Is that being enforced?
What about the 'arson ban' and 'looting ban'?

I watched some drone footage of the fireworks and they were impressive and beautiful. That was LA sticking it to the Man. Now if they would just get some sense and vote in some decent politicians.

I wonder how many of those who b-tched want the police defunded? I also wonder what these lefties were REALLY complaining about. Maybe it was because someone was celebrating the founding of this RACIST country.

I doubt there were many real letters. It is the LAT so it has to be a lie. No, i suspect what the LATs is really upset about is the middle finger pointed to the state Democrats including the Mayor and Gov ruining the State. I also note that it was a peaceful protest, unlike NYC and Chicago where people are getting shot up by the dozens all this was people celebrating the 4th and all that it means. I would also point out that since it is LA I suspect many of the people celebrating were of Mexican ancestry not that it really matters where one is from.

Just peaceful protestors with totally innocent fireworks... So some brush gets burned along with a few hundred homes. We had 1,500 buildings destroyed in Peaceful Minneapolis Protests! It was glorious!
