Florida health officials appear to have inflated recent record coronavirus case numbers there by as much as 30%, according to an analysis of data released by the state's Department of Health. U.S. health officials have been warning for several weeks that COVID-19 case trends in Florida are pointing to a possible looming catastrophe as the state records ever-increasing numbers of the disease. After several months of flat infection rates, positive case results in Florida began rising slowly in mid-June before beginning a steep climb near the end of the month.

This does not surprise me in the slightest. It's now all about cases, cases, and more cases. Of course there are more cases because there are more tests. The relevant facts are hospital admissions and deaths based solely on Covid-19.

A positive result equals a positive case. A case means zip, zero, nada. It's obvious these case numbers have been derived from flawed testing and are causing unnecessary hysteria. Is the common cold a case too. Are we going to panic every time we get the sniffles now?

In TB epidemiology a positive test does not equal a case. A case is defined by evidence of active contagious disease. Skin tests are the best example where some have such evidence of exposure or 'infection' often decades before becoming ill and contagious.

Wifey told me that the line to be tested at the local college was almost a 1/4 mile long.
Why even be tested if you're not showing any symptoms? They will want your name family members and contacts.
If it comes in negative you may catch it tomorrow. If it's positive, what will you do differently?

A more complicated explanation of my gut level feeling based on living in the Orlando area. The Govt is lying to us and manipulating the data for their own reasons. In six months I have had only heard of one person with any positive COVID results. A friend of my daughter; she was positive with no symptoms. Positive results out there, but how many of them are actually sick and how do they count cases?

Gaw-aw-ly, Sarge! Fake Coronavirus data? Who'd have thunk?
At best these so-called experts are incompetent, at worst they are patently dishonest, continuously feeding us fake data in order to push an agenda. A pox on them!

Apparently if they ask if you know anyone with COVID then they count you as a new case. Plus when they have a case in one county and the patient is moved to another county then that counts as a new case. They are doing that in California so it’s probably going on nationwide. It’s all fake numbers designed to fool the public and to insure more government control with the end game of defeating Trump in November.

Getting tested with no active symptoms is silly. You could get infected in fifteen minutes after being tested and go around thinking you are safe.

One of the key rules when updating databases is to maintain the integrity of the data. This means that all the data must be vetted using the same criteria and its pedigree can be determined through a change log. Once integrity is lost for a database the value of the data for making decisions is destroyed and it actually increases the probability of doing harm. This is the state we are in now with the COVID data. It is more of a threat to our recovery than an aid to planning.

A very elderly friend (87) was recently in the hospital for kidney stones and another issue that required a stay of several days. When she was admitted, they tested her for Covid and the results were positive. She had no symptoms, but they continued to test her for the remainder of her stay. Every time they did so, it came out positive and was reported as such. This one woman produced five positive results that were reported as five positive cases. Meanwhile, she was never ill and is recovering nicely from her procedures. We live in Florida, btw.

Now we know the riots did what they were supposed to do because opening up 2 months ago sure didn't cause the increases. So they had to have the riots spread it and now inflate the numbers is just more of the Democrat commie plan.

Or 50% or 80% or....whatever the hell they decide to lie about.
Apparently, if a patient is marked as "COVID", the money flows like water, so there is a huge incentive to try to get all possible cases twisted into 'COVID' money bucket.

#17, and she was probably one of MANY false positives.
I am increasingly convinced that at least some of these tests will give a positive if you have antibodies to a related coronavirus....which the common cold is a prime example.

I would like to know what percentage of new cases are false positives. Suspect its high. Don't know if the test is inaccurate or if somebody behind the scene is counting negative results as positive results to create a panic. Its an election year, and everything is political because their is a Republican in the Whitehouse. None of this would be happening if a Democrat was in the Whitehouse. It would all be covered up.

Just a remark about the headline. It warms my heart's cockles when people use "data" and "media" correctly, that is, as plurals.

Thousands are testing positive and I only have heard about two friends of friends who had the virus. Seems like it takes days for the results. How many people taking the samples are changing their gear as they go from one car to the next? If there are 500 cars and you are car # 300 and 100 in front of you test positive, are they spreading it? If someone is really sick, do they expect them to sit in a car in a line miles long waiting to be tested?
Still saying thousands are false positive. Surely, after the election in Nov, there will be a miracle cure.
