Hard to fathom which notion is more hilarious. Is it that Joe Biden would get tough with the Taliban, or that Joe Biden would get tough with Russia? But Biden knows it must have happened because the New York Times and the Washington Post say so, relying on their crack anonymous intelligence sources. The former veep wants you to know that he’s furious that President Trump sat on his hands for the past four months despite knowing that the Kremlin was paying bounties to the jihadists for targeting American troops in Afghanistan. Biden is sure this must have happened. No, he conceded at a rare press availability this week,

There is a mob destroying our country. They want to change our political and economic systems and move us toward a communist form of government. Part of their attack is to demonize our history and traditions and demolish our monuments and symbols. While millions of Americans love the country and revere our traditions, the radicals hate America and want to radically transform our nation. They plan on accomplishing their mission by eroding trust in law enforcement and targeting police departments for annihilation across the country.

With a rousing Independence Day speech at Mount Rushmore, President Trump certainly laid down the principles on which he will now go to the hustings. His choice of a setting put him before the famed monument to four presidents — each of which is a target of the movement that has been seeking to besmirch or destroy statues of our national leaders. Mr. Trump left no doubt in respect of which side he is on. Had the President left any such doubt, the morning papers cleared them up. The Times led with a long geschrei about how Mr. Trump had sent a “discordant” message.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has mocked the decision by U.S. officials to fly a rainbow pride flag over the embassy in Moscow, saying it “tells you something about the people who work there.”During a televised video conference on Friday, Putin was told that the American embassy had hung a rainbow flag on its facade for the first time to celebrate Pride Month in June. “Who works in this building?” Putin asked the speaker, Sen. Alexei Pushkov, who responded, “Americans.”“Let them celebrate. It tells you a certain something about the people who work there,” Putin added with a smile.

S ince it’s the Fourth of July, I’m going to write about history, and, man, Woodrow Wilson’s racist patootie on a spike puts a spring in my step. Princeton stripped the name of its long-ago president from its public-affairs school. He was our worst U.S. president for long-term damage. I don’t mind tenured college professors, but, as self-important fonts of naïveté as well as specialist knowledge, they’re best kept on a short leash. Ivory towers, after all, breed a sense of unreality that can cause more harm than good. They’re not known as places where common sense thrives.

Things haven’t gone well for Oberlin College in court recently. First, it was found liable for defaming Gibson’s Bakery. After the bakery’s owner tried to stop a black student from shoplifting, the Oberlin student senate condemned the bakery as racist and called for a boycott of its products, which Oberlin stopped purchasing for a time. A jury awarded the Gibson family $44 million in damages (reduced to $33 million by operation of Ohio law). The case is on appeal to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. Now, the Sixth Circuit has ruled that a male student may proceed with a claim of sex discrimination against Oberlin for railroading him

Can there be any more fitting image for the 4th of July this year than the McCloskeys of St. Louis, showing us what self-defense will look like in our forthcoming de-policed age (which an older generation of better educated leaders would recognize as the world of Hobbes)? I do wish they had better trigger discipline, but still, this is perhaps the most meme-worthy moment of 2020, and we’ve got a great sampling. Meanwhile, Biden emerged from his basement and saw his shadow, which means six more months of incoherence.

Now he’s holding a rally glorifying white supremacy at Mount Rushmore, a region once sacred to tribal communities.” “[Mount Rushmore] is a great place for the president to celebrate our nation’s birthday,”

On distinctively Catholic issues, the “Catholic” Joe Biden is batting zero. From abortion to gay marriage to embryonic stem cell research, Biden stands against Church teaching. Were he elected, he would resume the war on Catholics and Christians Barack Obama waged for eight years. Donald Trump’s defeat of Hillary Clinton put a pause on that assault and gave Catholics some breathing room. Given all of this, one would think the Catholic episcopate might refrain from sniping at Trump. But they haven’t. Democrats first, bishops like Wilton Gregory have sought to undermine Trump at this most crucial moment in the culture war. During the riots, Trump tried to reassert religion

The battle to win U.S. energy independence has been long, hard and well worth it but the industry is facing new foreign threats from OPEC as well as right here at home from Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. Biden wants to ban U.S. fracking, which was the key to our winning the war of energy independence. The former vice president at one point has said "no new fracking" -- which, because of the nature of the shale decline rate, would end the U.S. shale revolution. This would not only cost the U.S. thousands of high-paying jobs, it would allow other countries to fill the void and produce more oil and gas.

And now that Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein's pal, paramour, and fellow pervert, is behind bars for her part in the sex scandal, her eventual "suicide" is a certainty.

Before the Revolutionary War, residents of the North American colonies were subjects of the British crown. They were entitled to whatever goods and services the aristocracy allowed. Their living conditions and daily activities were determined by government fiat. They paid taxes arbitrarily imposed by the crown. In 1776, the Founders of the U.S.A. rejected centralized dominion and replaced it with a structure that took control away from the central government and gave it to the individual. The new Americans were free to make their own choices and accept the consequences of their decisions, good or bad.(Snip) Policies advocated by the current Democrat party and its presidential standard bearer, Joe Biden,

The mental picture of a revolutionary that first comes to mind, at least to me, is that of a toughened, hardened zealot who carries his torch or pitchfork to the walls of the baron's castle and who braves the arrows launched at him, as he defiantly challenges the tyrant to a duel — or better yet, to open battle. Today, by contrast, the revolutionaries of the left seem to be whiners. Moreover, they seem caught in self-contradictions that doom them from the start. Here are two recent examples. Both of them are drawn entirely from Fox News. According to a Fox News report, "Leslie Neal-Boylan,

Today's protesters protest bygone times when slavery was legal and was considered, by many otherwise normal people, socially desirable and morally acceptable. They also protest the times of racism and racial discrimination that came after slavery was abolished in the U.S. Those times are gone. America, in order to make up for the past suffering of slaves, has bestowed on blacks many privileges and entitlements that are not available to all other Americans, affirmative action and protection from so-called disparate impact being examples. American whites have become — as a racial group — the most aracial people on Earth. In predominantly white America,
