Seattle—A 94-year-old stone monument to Confederate veterans of the Civil War has been toppled in Seattle's Lake View Cemetery. The once-towering monument, known as the United Confederate Veterans Memorial, was erected by the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1926.(Snip) It wasn't immediately known who toppled the memorial, but it has been the target of Black Lives Matter protesters since the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis sparked efforts around the country to destroy statues and monuments to Confederate leaders or causes. Even before Floyd's murder, the monument was controversial. It has been vandalized repeatedly in recent years

It's sad that they have finally torn down this monument, but now what will they have to be offended by?
Oh Well: I am sure they will find something else to destroy.

The monuments were put up to quell the lasting bitterness of die-hard Southerners...and seemed to work.
Next, of course, we will have monuments to George Floyd, Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown... Which will happily be defaced and taken down by a more enlightened people.

No, didn't think so....Anti-Fa and BLM are both fascist commie fronts...time to label both terrorist organizations and start kicking their rear ends. Don't like our system? Then get the hedoublell out and go to some commie country...

Chances are they will rebuild the monument in that private cemetery. I wonder if that monument is covered under the Federal law that is supposed to protect veterans monuments in the USA, since all Confederate soldiers were granted a Presidential pardon as part of the Reconstruction Period after the Civil War that the Democrat Party of the time tried to sabotage? If so it could mean ten years in a Federal prison for the perpetrators.
When I was in Europe I came across a German military cemetery in Holland where there are almost 40,000 Nazi German soldiers buried who were killed in the Netherlands fighting the Americans, British, and Canadians armies during the Second World War. Nobody ever defaced the grave markers and monuments in that military cemetery.

Expect them to invade churches in the near future. Protesters have already disrupted Catholic services in recent cases, but I’m talking about regular Baptist-type congregations.

Not excusing these rabid leftists, but I'm with #7. What we know as Washington State was part of the Oregon Territory and split off as Washington Territory which lasted well beyond the Civil War until statehood in 1889. There was no "north" or "south" there. IIRC, California was considered to be part of the union. Maybe there was a sizable post-war migration of people from the Confederacy to the NW?

Im of the opinion that cemeteries and places of worship, regardless of faith, should be off limits.
I wonder what would happen if right wingers started defacing monuments to leftists?

Why was there a confederate monument in Seattle? Makes no sense at all.

Folks...would any of you tolerate a statue being raised to honor the members of ANTIFA?
You do realize the Confederacy was basically the ANTIFA of the 19th Century, right? They lost an election, but rather than accept it they seceded an attempted to establish a hideous apartheid state.
Those monuments should never have been erected in the first place. We're talking about people who went from soldiers to civilians who enacted Jim Crow, lynching, and voter suppression. No. They absolutely do not deserve statues.

Serious question for Seattle that needs an answer. Why is there a giant Bust of Lenin at UW ? Why is there a Red Square 🟥 at your state Universities? I saw plenty while helping my kids research colleges. Pretty disgusting.

Not even the dead are safe from the white, college-educated Marxist "allies" of BLM, despite their lies that such monuments belong in museums or cemeteries and not in the public square.
