Can there be any more fitting image for the 4th of July this year than the McCloskeys of St. Louis, showing us what self-defense will look like in our forthcoming de-policed age (which an older generation of better educated leaders would recognize as the world of Hobbes)? I do wish they had better trigger discipline, but still, this is perhaps the most meme-worthy moment of 2020, and we’ve got a great sampling. Meanwhile, Biden emerged from his basement and saw his shadow, which means six more months of incoherence.

1. Why now? Maxwell was arrested at her remote estate in Bedford, New Hampshire eleven months after Jeffrey Epstein’s death in a New York police cell. The house was purchased for $1 million in cash through a shell company in December 2019. In the same month, Reuters reported that Maxwell was a target in the FBI’s investigation of people who ‘facilitated’ Epstein’s sexual crimes. Meanwhile, her location became the subject of international speculation. It now appears that the FBI knew exactly where she was. On Thursday, the FBI’s New York Assistant Director, William Sweeney admitted that ‘an eye was being kept and information was being collected’ for months:
This fall, get the children back in school 14 replies

The American Academy of Pediatrics has released a needed opinion that is strongly in favor of getting children back to school this fall. It’s just what the nation needs right now in times that seem anything but normal. “The AAP,” the group’s statement reads, “strongly advocates that all policy considerations for the coming school year should start with a goal of having students physically present in school.“ “Schools are fundamental to child and adolescent development and well-being,” AAP’s statement points out. They “provide our children and adolescents with academic instruction, social and emotional skills, safety, reliable nutrition, physical/speech and mental health therapy, and opportunities for physical activity, among other benefits.”
As America Is Torn to Shreds 6 replies

I awakened filled with dread, as I customarily do these days. It has to do with my beautiful America being torn to shreds by gangstas and their white enablers in the media and politics and the academy. Right now, we are seeing the right to free speech demolished in front of our very eyes. You cannot say one word against Black Lives Matter, a totally mixed up, wacko entity, without being fired from whatever academic or government or media or business job you had. It doesn’t matter that BLM says nothing against the real killers of blacks — gangs and abortionists.
How Mass Protests End 16 replies

Since the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis on May 25, crowds demanding racial justice have surged into public spaces across the country and throughout the world—with solidarity actions springing up in South Korea and South Africa, Argentina and Australia. Domestically, demonstrations have materialized not only in major cities, but also in small-town America, including places with deeply conservative populations. As several political scientists noted in The Washington Post, "The United States rarely has protests in this combination of size, intensity and frequency; it usually has big protests or sustained protests, but not both." When will the protests end? And what will it mean when they do?

The United States recorded fewer than 50,000 new coronavirus cases for the first time in four days, while the world set a global record for confirmed infections in a 24-hour period, the World Health Organization reports. The new single-day mark stands at 212,326 cases. The U.S. contributed the most in that time frame, with large numbers also reported in Brazil and India. Experts cautioned that the dip in U.S. cases to just over 45,000 could be due to a number of factors, including reduced reporting during a national holiday. That same holiday might also end up accelerating the spread, with millions of Americans

Joe Biden tweeted Sunday night that if he gets elected, his administration “won’t just rebuild this nation—we’ll transform it,” raising speculation online about what exactly in the country will be transformed. The tweet comes after a politically charged Fourth of July weekend as the country works to manage a new surge in COVID-19 cases and tries to emerge from weeks of tense protests that have resulted in a widening divide between Democrats and Republicans. Biden’s tweet did not specify what exactly he means by transforming the country. His critics from the left have expressed concern that he served in the upper echelon of government for over 40 years

S ince it’s the Fourth of July, I’m going to write about history, and, man, Woodrow Wilson’s racist patootie on a spike puts a spring in my step. Princeton stripped the name of its long-ago president from its public-affairs school. He was our worst U.S. president for long-term damage. I don’t mind tenured college professors, but, as self-important fonts of naïveté as well as specialist knowledge, they’re best kept on a short leash. Ivory towers, after all, breed a sense of unreality that can cause more harm than good. They’re not known as places where common sense thrives.

Things haven’t gone well for Oberlin College in court recently. First, it was found liable for defaming Gibson’s Bakery. After the bakery’s owner tried to stop a black student from shoplifting, the Oberlin student senate condemned the bakery as racist and called for a boycott of its products, which Oberlin stopped purchasing for a time. A jury awarded the Gibson family $44 million in damages (reduced to $33 million by operation of Ohio law). The case is on appeal to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. Now, the Sixth Circuit has ruled that a male student may proceed with a claim of sex discrimination against Oberlin for railroading him

Why the Mortality Rate
for Black Infants Is So High

A s Americans discuss black livelihood in the context of recent high-profile black deaths at the hands of police officers, a merciless villain is quietly snatching away thousands of black lives each year: infant mortality. To be sure, medicine has gone a long way toward keeping black babies alive. In 1850, the black infant-mortality rate was 340 per 1,000 (compared with 217 per 1,000 for whites). Still, despite progress, last year over 7,000 black babies died in the United States before reaching one year of age — one baby for every 87 born. Troublingly, the infant-mortality rate is far higher for blacks than for other races:

Alan Dershowitz told The Post on Friday that Ghislaine Maxwell should be “presumed innocent” — and that the feds’ sex case against her may fall apart because of statutes of limitation. In 2008, the Harvard University law professor helped Maxwell’s perverted pal Jeffrey Epstein secure a plea deal with federal prosecutors in Florida while the sexual predator was under investigation for abusing underage girls. Dershowitz also is embroiled in a lawsuit himself against Virginia Guiffre, who claims Epstein kept her as a teenage sex slave and forced her to sleep with both Prince Andrew and Dershowitz. The lawyer and royal both have vehemently denied this.

Truscott IV says his ancestor’s former estate at Monticello is enough of a tribute and that the Jefferson Memorial, located next to the Tidal Basin in the nation’s capital, should be replaced with a statue honoring the abolitionist hero Harriet Tubman. “The memorial is a shrine to a man who during his lifetime owned more than 600 slaves and had at least six children with one of them, Sally

As seen in a video making the rounds, when asked about the solution to events, Jay had plenty to say about a black ethnostate inside the United States, as a social media user characterized the group’s objective. “The solution is very simple,” he responded. “We file a declaration of liberation, declaring every African-American descendant of slavery a political prisoner here in the United States, that was affected by the Portuguese slave trade,

Prince Harry today faced criticism after he appeared to take a swipe at the British Empire by saying the history of the Commonwealth 'must be acknowledged', even if it's 'uncomfortable'. The Duke of Sussex, 35, made the comment as he joined wife Meghan Markle, 38, for a video call with young leaders from the Queen's Commonwealth Trust last week that was made public today. As part of the discussion on 'justice and equal rights', Harry said the Commonwealth needs to follow others who have 'acknowledged the past' and are 'trying to right their wrongs', and also admitted to having his own 'unconscious bias'.

When you look at polls, not only is Biden substantially ahead, but he’s over 50% in many of these polls. That means in order to win, Trump has to win back those voters.
