Washington Post: Let’s cancel
all the cop shows on TV

Original Article

Posted By: NorthernDog, 6/5/2020 3:58:38 PM

Writing at the Washington Post, author Alyssa Rosenberg has a unique solution for the problems with our policing: Cancel all the cop shows on television. She argues we need to do that because there’s a “reactionary streak” behind the “surface liberalism” in these shows. For a century, Hollywood has been collaborating with police departments, telling stories that whitewash police shootings and valorizing an action-hero style of policing over the harder, less dramatic work of building relationships with the communities cops are meant to serve and protect. There’s a reason for that beyond a reactionary streak hiding below the industry’s surface

Comments:

I assume that popular police TV shows like Blue Bloods are on the chopping block.

I like this, delete all cop shows and movies, and of course any that feature guns as well. This will take a bite out of leftist Hollywood. Die Hard Franchise - almost $1.5 billion in revenue, Beverly Hill Cop franchise, over $700 million, the list goes on and on.

If nothing else it would stop giving idiots like Biden the impression that cops have such fantastic aim that they can merely shoot guns out of criminal's hands and shoot them in the leg just as easily as anywhere else. No matter how good they are on the range, in real life cops being threatened have to aim for the biggest target which is the torso.

I'm all for it. Almost every cop show I've seen recently is so diverse that a third are black men, a third are women (black, white and sometimes lesbian) and the rest are gay and or white men. The only place there is little or no diversity is the perps. All white men. A few hispanics. White hispanics? I exaggerate a little, but not much. One exception is Chicago PD. It has black perps as drug dealers, but always buffered by the many black victims. Blue Bloods has gotten very PC and I don't watch it much anymore. Of course, it's not just cop shows. A martian coming from outer space, if all his communications were through TV, he would think blacks and gays make up half the population, no one gets married to have children and most relationships are interracial. I used to love to watch detective shows and try to figure out who done it using deductive reasoning. Now I solve it within a few minutes and it has nothing to do with skill. I just decide who they think fits the narrative and he's it. I'm right about 95 % of the time. No wonder so many people have quit watching TV. The only reason I still watch at all is for the game I play with myself. Seeing how often I figure it out and just the hilarity of how "they just can't help themselves" falling all over each other to be as PC as possible.

#8 That's absolutely true. And remember the Michael Douglas film about a violent vigilante, "Falling Down?" The film depicted criminal after criminal, and not one was black.

Also #8, "Chicago PD" has some black producers and directors. So there are some good messages in the programming ... e.g., Sgt Voight gets extremely upset when a witness tells a detective that "the black kid probably did it".
