Walt Disney Co. has long treated its parks workforce like an extended family, calling them “cast members” to emphasize their importance to the team. That’s one reason why the company’s decision to furlough more than 100,000 employees amid the coronavirus crisis has become one of the most visible signs of the economic devastation from COVID-19. Since the outbreak, its resorts have been shuttered, its blockbuster productions have stalled, and there have been no live sports for cable channel ESPN to cover.

"Where does Disney go from here?" I can't decide if that is a Goofy question or a Mickey Mouse question?

How about we start opening things back up little by little so that we can put people back to work and get this country back in order!

I have great empathy for the front line workers, but zero sympathy for the twists and turns Di$ney took to become the mess that it has morphed into. Walt wasn't perfect, but he did have a scheme to entertain families. It should never be a question that a Disney product was safe for a family to watch. But they went off the deep end and started to push agendas that aren't family oriented. Shrivel up and die. And as for how they treat those workers..I've never heard anything good.

Who is the most famous hotelier in the world? No doubt he is being crushed by this as well--along with airlines, cruise ships, amusement parks, the entire sports/entertainment industry {starting with live performance venues) Social distancing rules will kill the economy of America, Disney theme parks, entertainment, cruise ships and sports network, along with Trump hotels and casinos may be only among their first most famous casualties.

However much you may hate what Disney is now, remember a lot of folks get their livelihoods either directly or indirectly from the Disney made tourism dollars and lots of people are hurting. I feel for them and the whole hospitality and live entertainment industries are suffering. Lots of good folks behind the scenes or on the front lines. We as a nation need to put our big girl panties on, protect the vulnerable, and get back to work.

I can’t shed any tears for Disney. Starting in about 1980, they took a turn down the wrong road. I wouldn’t be sorry to see them gone.

Maybe Disney could start by going and having a talk with Gov. Newsom.

Oh cry me a river... they STILL have a job! There will be millions whose employer went belly up and they've nowhere to go but the unemployment line.

Here's a thought -- give a free instant Corona virus test and antigen test with every ticket sold. I'm sure Disney could get a bulk discount. (And of course staff must pass, too). You pass the test, you can get in the park and mingle like in the past. If you KNOW for sure that everyone around you is free of the virus, why can't they ignor social distancing and masks? It's not being irresponsible. It's "following the science."

Walt Disney, a staunch Republican and pro-America first type, would tell his successors to go to Hell

Since Disney fired citizen workers in favor of hiring foreigners and had the nerve to make the citizen workers train the foreigners, who cares if the place shuts down. Not me, that's for sure. The place is overhyped and their tickets are too expensive just to wait in hour long lines.

This creates lots of problems, doesn't it? Can't exactly send them passes to Disneyland for their families as a consolation...
