President Donald Trump is demanding General Motors start manufacturing desperately needed ventilators 'NOW' – after a stunning report his administration stalled a potential deal over the cost.(Snip) General Motors MUST immediately open their stupidly abandoned Lordstown plant in Ohio, or some other plant, and START MAKING VENTILATORS, NOW!!!!!! FORD, GET GOING ON VENTILATORS, FAST!!!!!!' Trump wrote. Trump also teed off on the company in an additional tweet, blaming the firm for the breakdown in the deal--amid signals that the Big Three manufacturer's hometown of Detroit is in for some difficult days of shortages due to the coronavirus.

GM was sure quick to take the Obama bail out money. I haven't even considered a GM car since.

So, what is this? It's de facto nationalization, government demanding certain production from private enterprise...under a law that has no applicability in this situation. No, we are not "at war", and accepting that line it's not the kind of war envisioned by the law. Accept that logic and don't cry when President Obama2 uses it to shut down the firearms industry.

Never trust DM on a story about Trump. Likely Fake News or at least twisted against Trump.

suggest googling “GM ventilators” and reading some of those news stories.
This particular story appears exaggerated (at best) or false.

I am truly sorry that some folks do not understand the concept of war. There is more than one definition, and Trump has been at war on our behalf since his inauguration day. Think the Left hasn't been at war with us, Christians, conservatives and prolifers for years? You want to get mad? Get mad at the proper targets, democrats and Obama would be a great start. Every time Trump thinks he is making headway, one of Obama's minions pops up their ugly America hating heads and puts a stop to the solution. I scoff at anyone who thinks we are not at war, for it might not fit the usual definition, but we ARE at war.

There has to be more to this the DM is not reporting, a safe assumption in the best of times.
They really should just stick to posting picture articles and tabloid fluff about the royals.

I wonder how we could have won WWII if automakers balked about building cars instead of tanks, guns, or planes. Maybe their waiting for China to step up and do it for them.

GM could not have purchased worse publicity. Especially with most people who actually make the country go, and who have the money to purchase new motor vehicles are Trump supporters!

#4 - The Tweet: General Motors MUST immediately open their stupidly abandoned Lordstown plant in Ohio, or some other plant, and START MAKING VENTILATORS, NOW!!!!!! FORD, GET GOING ON VENTILATORS, FAST!!!!!!
Make of it what you will. Fairly plain language. Reads like a demand to me.
#7/10 - The concept of WAR as embodied in the Defense Production Act of 1950 is plain to anyone who reads it. Those who think the meaning is elastic are no better than those Supreme Court judges who find penumbras and permutations to cover whatever they would like to see happen. No originalists for the bench, who interpret the law as written.
The Act flowed out of WW2 when American industry converted from that Arsenal of Democracy to civilian production and the US Government involved itself in Korea. The military, in the interim, had shed itself of excess troops and surplus stuff not needed after 8 Aug 45.

This is a questionable news source but GM's performance since 2006 makes it believable. Trump wants companies and people to be patriotic and voluntarily want to help. Obama gave GM billions and we have never seen a trace of reciprocation. Second opinion: their vehicles are cheap trash.

# 4 is so right. I like to read DM even tho they have always hated Trump. They've gotten more virulent about him lately, which didn't even seem possible. Reading through their headlines this morning, there was a lovely story on Obama and Mooch and their two lovely daughters. All 20 comments were oozing with adoration for them. I wrote a comment stating that these girls are not Obamas but Nesbitts. Guess which post wasn't posted and guess who is now banned from DM. The nerve!! LOL

Saying he ordered them to do it implies that he issued an executive order to compel them. He used forceful language to EXHORT them to action. Treating this like nationalizing industry is hyperbolic.

All eyes will now be on the GM ventilators. If they cheapen them up or make an inferior product that ends up having the patient die, who would want to buy a car from them?

When did the authority to declare war become metaphorical, #7? Being in a fight for our lives does not make this a war. Besides, who would deliver the articles of war to the virus?
Skillful deployment of euphemisms does not override the Constitution.

General Motors was going to provide 40,000 ventilators “very quickly” but now General Motors is saying it will only be 6,000 ventilators in late April, “and they want top dollar.” President Trump tweeted, “Always a mess with Mary Barra, Company Chair and CEO of General Motors.”
