MADRID - Spain saw a huge leap of almost 5,000 infections in the past 24 hours, placing it in third place in the global ranking of infections behind China and Italy. Health authorities said on Saturday that the number of people who have tested positive for the pathogen reached 24,926, up from 19,980 the day before. The death rate soared to 1,326, up from 1,002 on Friday. At least 1,600 patients are in intensive care, health authorities said, admitting that these units are working at their limits. Madrid is the region with the highest number of infections, with at last 9,000

“Behind China”??? Do you really think that?
China hasn’t reported ANY increase in #deaths, and only 10s of new infections, over the past week.
Meanwhile, they have kicked out foreign reporters and clamped down on any news about their epidemic.
I suspect that this epidemic is still running rampant throughout China — with densely packed cities, poor sanitation practices, and 80% of its population living in poverty.
I would surmise that China’s infection and death numbers are likely 10-20 times the “official” reports, with no end in sight.

Oh stop already. This is from the media... It's probably blown out of proportion. They've got themselves to thank for my cynicism.

There's something about that perfect Mediterranean climate that draws people outside. I wonder if the dense immigrant population is following all of the rules?

I'd be curious to know if these cases are locals or Spain's (Europe's) recent N. African and Middle Eastern immigrants.

#4 Tracking cases is much more scary. That's why they do it.

With the number of people having themselves tested for Corona increasing, of course there is going to be an increase in the number of positive cases. There is also going to be an increase in the number of negative cases. Same principle applies to the influenza virus or any other virus for that matter.
The crucial thing in all this is to compare the death rates from Corona virus across different countries. If it's the same Corona virus, there should inherently be no difference in death rates across different countries. If there is a difference in death rates, it could reflect differences in how figures are compiled and cases classified.

I agree with #1. I think that the Chinese numbers are entirely fictional, no connection to anything except Chairman Xi's order that "this must stop!". So they stopped......reporting the cases and deaths.
Really quite simple, actually. Anyone seeing columns of greasy smoke from fires rising into the sky in Wuhan area?

China might be doing the same thing NORK is doing, incinerating the bodies to keep the numbers down.

China's numbers should have a huge asterisk next to them. They are simply not believable and are intended to give a false assurance of significant improvement. They want to re-engage financially ASAP. It's time to begin returning all significant manufacturing to the US.

FTA: "The death rate soared to 1,326, up from 1,002 on Friday." A rate is defined as something per something as in miles per hour, liters per minute, deaths per thousand infected, etc. Simply touting more deaths reported on Saturday versus Friday is meaningless and a telling sign of the profound ignorance of the idiots reporting our 'news'. Sadly, public policy is being driven by the morons that regurgitate this sort of meaningless garbage. Apparently journalism no longer has standards.

Watch the cases start declining in the US. All of a sudden Trump will be blamed for ‘overreacting ‘ and hurting the economy. They will start downplaying the serious of the virus in a few weeks because Trump’s approval is going up. The MSM is the worst enemy this country faces. We can handle the socialist and Marxist fools but the media hold immense power in their ability to to panic the low IQ’s among us.

The reporting by the Chinese Communist Party and their soul brothers and sisters, the American Main Stream Media are identical: if we don't report it, it isn't happening; If we SAY it's true, you MUST believe it.
