Most Americans can get a three-month reprieve to pay their income taxes for 2019, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Tuesday in a press conference. The IRS will postpone the April 15 tax deadline by 90 days for millions of individuals who owe $1 million or less and corporations that owe $10 million or less, he said. To be sure, Americans still have to meet the April 15 deadline if they are expecting a refund or are requesting a six-month extension, but they can defer payment for up to 90 days beyond that. Italy's death toll from the coronavirus outbreak saw its biggest increase since the outbreak overnight Tuesday, with health officials reporting a whopping 475 deaths in 24 hours. According to the BBC, Italian health officials have reported 475 new deaths, bringing the death toll to nearly 3,000. The total number of coronavirus cases in Italy now tops 35,700. Italy has been the hardest-hit European country dealing with the coronavirus and has seen the greatest number of infected persons outside of China, where the virus is thought to have originated. Stores and nonessential businesses have been shuttered as much of the country

People with blood type A might be more vulnerable to the coronavirus, while those with type O blood could be more resistant, according to a new preliminary study from China. Researchers studying COVID-19 in its outbreak epicenter, Wuhan, and the city of Shenzhen found the proportion of type A patients both infected and killed by the disease to be “significantly” higher than those with the same blood type in the general public. Type O patients, meanwhile, made up a smaller proportion of both those infected and killed by the virus. “People of blood group A might need particularly strengthened personal

China has reacted angrily after US President Donald Trump referred to the coronavirus as “Chinese”. A foreign ministry spokesman warned the US should “take care of its own business” before stigmatising China. The first cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019. However, last week a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman shared a conspiracy theory, alleging the US Army had brought it to the region. The unfounded accusation led US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to demand China stop spreading “disinformation” as it tried “to shift blame” for the outbreak. So far, more than 170,000

Pennsylvania’s 600 state-owned liquor stores are heading for a 9 p.m., systemwide closure tonight as part of Gov. Tom Wolf’s broadening efforts to impose “social distancing” across the state to interrupt the spread of coronavirus. But the decision appeared to have the reverse effect in the short term this week as buyers of all shapes, sizes and interests rushed to the state stores to make sure they had enough of whatever they like to ride out the storm. “Is it essential? No,” said Ro Gallegos, a 43-year-old insurance company employee from Fairview Township as he left the Fine Wine and

South Florida voters went to the polls Tuesday with accessories they now go almost nowhere without: Hand sanitizer, gloves, wipes, even their own pens. Their commitment to vote was too strong for most to stay home. And they saw firsthand how polling sites were nearly empty. Roy Pollard Jr., of Delray Beach, rubbed sanitizer on his hands before entering the precinct at Carver Middle School in Delray Beach. “I always vote on the day of the election, since I was 18,” said Pollard, 64. “I’m not a bit worried about the virus.” Betsy Silverfine also came prepared. Democratic debates in times of coronavirus make for even less interesting television than during normal times, whatever that means in the Trump era. In Sunday night’s debate, Bernie Sanders had a double task. For the believers, to make a last pitch that he is the better candidate (which, in terms of the presidency, he clearly is). For the realists, his task was to push the inevitable nominee, Joe Biden, more to the left. He probably achieved neither, as Biden stole the show, by announcing (cleverly) that he will pick a female vice-presidential candidate, a progressive weak point of Sanders (who

A police department in Oregon is urging people that if they’ve run out of toilet paper, it’s not worth calling 911. The Newport Police Department posted the surprising message on its Facebook page as shoppers across the country have flocked to supermarkets to stock up on supplies amid the coronavirus pandemic that has put much of the world on edge. “It’s hard to believe that we even have to post this. Do not call 9-1-1 just because you ran out of toilet paper. You will survive without our assistance,” NPD wrote. (Facebook) The department then offered numerous alternatives if people

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a four-time cancer survivor, turns 87 on Sunday. That’s it. That’s all you really need to know for the 2020 presidential election if you’re a Democrat or left-leaning moderate. “RBG is 87” is the slogan to emblazon on the buttons, bumper stickers, ball caps and other campaign merch in your effort to win the votes of sulky progressives now threatening to sit out the election since their favorite candidate is unlikely to get the party’s nomination for president. Andrew Gillum's carefully cultivated image as a rising political star and God-fearing family man came crashing down after he was found in a Miami Beach hotel room with two men and baggies of suspected meth. The former Tallahassee, Fla., mayor was in Tallahassee on Monday to energize college voters at Florida State and Florida A&M University, where his political ambitions were born. But four days later, his well-publicized effort to register a million voters ahead of Election Day was in major doubt, along with his once-promising political career. After the news broke, the normally visible Gillum shrunk from public view

This same friend credited Barack Obama’s economic policies when the Dow Jones Industrial Averages approached 30,000. This — and more — is part of our political, economic and medical divide with mixed messages coming from supposed professionals, amateurs and people who don’t know what they are talking about. According to Dictionary.com, “panic” is “a sudden overwhelming fear, with or without cause, that produces hysterical or irrational behavior, and that often spreads quickly through a group of persons or animals.”

Once upon a time, Jennifer Rubin was an intelligent woman. Things started to go downhill when she went to work for the Washington Post, but what really flipped the switch in her brain was seeing Donald Trump become president. Not only did she lose perspective, but she also lost intelligence, self-restraint, and decency. Her latest flight of NeverTrump nastiness has her speculate about possible Republican deaths during a time of coronavirus. Her speculation not only reveals an even further degradation of mind and soul, but she's got things entirely bass-ackwards wrong – and a couple of maps prove it.

On August 18, 1944, Senator Harry S. Truman met President Franklin D. Roosevelt for lunch at the White House. Truman had just been nominated to be Roosevelt’s running mate that year, and the two men dined on the White House lawn and chatted about the upcoming campaign. Truman had not seen the president for over a year and was shocked at Roosevelt’s haggard appearance. He noticed that FDR was so ill that he couldn’t even pour cream into his coffee. Despite seeing direct evidence of Roosevelt’s poor health, Truman told reporters afterwards that Roosevelt “Looked fine...He’s as keen as a briar.” Truman was lying. Roosevelt was a dying man,
