United States Congress is getting ready to ban tobacco sales to anyone under the age of 21 as part of a year-end spending deal. In its never-ending habit of trying to regulate any aspect of American life it can get its mitts on, the United States Congress is now set to ban the sale of tobacco products to anyone under the age of 21. The legislation is part of a year-end spending deal and has bipartisan support, according to The Hill and other outlets.

But go ahead and smoke all the weed you want. And don’t worry about all that brown goo in your pipe bowl. That won’t hurt your lungs like cigarette smoke does. /s

Yup, that will fix the smoking problem. What folly!

If you're informed enough to vote at 18, then you're informed enough to decide if you want to use tobacco. If you need to be protected like a child, then you are not mature enough to decide who runs the government.

He made a point about abortion but he didn’t complete the thought - an 18 year old can choose to abort her baby up to the moment of birth but can’t buy a cigarette.
An 18 year old can enlist in the military. He or she can be trained to kill with a GUN. Then he or she can not buy alcohol, cigarettes or a gun because apparently we can’t trust that they have the maturity to use any of the three responsibly.
BUT we are then going to lower the age to vote to 16 !!

OK to smoke dope, but not tobacco. This is preposterous and does nothing to stop tobacco.

I'd ask "Don't they have anything better to do?" but this never ending impeachment investigation has made that question moot. All they do is waste time and tax payer money.
Infuriating that you can be sent to some miserable hell hole to die for your country but you can't have a beer or a smoke after a long day.... I have never understood this.

#8, I would be willing to waive age restrictions on tobacco or alcohol for active-duty, or honorably-discharged, military in the 18-20 age bracket. But don't expect that to come up in the debate - it's too simple and makes too much sense.

Frankly, as the mother of two sons, I think the 'draft' age should actually be raised to 21!

These are the sort of intrusive unconstitutional acts where there needs to be vocal and vigorous push-back questioning how they think they were ever given that authority. And push back harder when they mumble 'commerce clause' - and have the facts ready to go. This over-reach by the fed-gov has to be nipped back. and there's no time like the present to remind them they were NEVER granted unlimited power by the constitution, but VERY LIMITED authority, instead. And make it stick. There's too many ignorant citizens walking around who think being ruled is the way it's supposed to be.

I agree with #11. Laws like this have no place being passed at the federal level. I wish those sent to Washington would READ the constitution for a change.

Will Virginia send in the Guard to seize cigarettes along with guns? Who ever said that the 'slippery slope ' doesn't exist.
