Lewandowski testified in front of the House Judiciary Committee the day before. While Democrats attempted to get him to shed light on one of the ten instances Robert Mueller identified as potential obstruction of justice on the part of President Trump, Lewandowski appeared confrontational and refused to answer most questions. An explosion sparked a fire Monday at a Russian biological research center known for being one of two places in the world that holds live samples of the smallpox virus. A Justice Department inspector general’s report is the driving force for possible criminal charges against former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, as his attorneys and the department square off in a legal and media showdown. The inspector general’s 20-month-old findings sparked an ongoing Justice investigation. It said Mr. McCabe lied to fellow agents and cast blame on colleagues for his orchestrated press leak. His legal team lost an appeal to Deputy Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen to avert criminal charges that may come out of the U.S. attorney’s office for the District of Columbia. NEW YORK — The number and rate of abortions across the United States have plunged to their lowest levels since the procedure became legal nationwide in 1973, according to new figures released Wednesday. The report from the Guttmacher Institute, a research group that supports abortion rights, counted 862,000 abortions in the U.S. in 2017. That’s down from 926,000 tallied in the group’s previous report for 2014, and from just over 1 million counted for 2011. Guttmacher is the only entity that strives to count all abortions in the U.S., making inquiries of individual providers. Federal data compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention excludes California, Maryland and New Hampshire.

Although some of its usual supporters are among those blasting The New York Times for its slimy hit job on Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, the paper is tuning them out and digging itself into a deeper hole. Exhibit A is that Tuesday’s edition carried a front-page article asserting that the “Allegation Reopens the Debate Over Kavanaugh.” In political and journalistic terms, that amounts to giving a giant middle finger to the world. Far-left California Governor Gavin Newsom commuted sentences of 21 violent criminals including 4 murderers with life sentences without possibility of parole. One of the murderers was arrested in 1993 for fatally shooting a man during a carjacking and another was incarcerated in 1991 for killing an armed guard during a robbery.A man who served 31 years of 2 life sentences for a double murder in 1988 was also given clemency by Newsom. A car plowed into the lobby of Trump Plaza in New Rochelle Tuesday night, injuring two pedestrians, police said.The wild incident unfolded at around 8:50 a.m. when the out-of-control black Mercedes-Benz slammed through the glass-door entrance of the 40-story luxury residential building on Huguenot Street and into the marble lobby. A New Rochelle Police Department spokesman said the crash did not appear suspicious, but remains under investigation. Two pedestrians suffered minor injuries as a result of the wreck, the spokesman said.
