A man wearing a traditional Middle Eastern tunic told a barista at a Starbucks in Philadelphia his name was "Aziz." The employee wrote "ISIS" on his cups. Niquel Johnson told NBC News that he was dressed in a thobe — an ankle-length, long sleeve garment — when he ordered three drinks, one for himself and the others for two friends he was with at a nearby store. When he was asked by a barista for a name for his order, Johnson said he gave his Muslim name, "Aziz." "Abdul Aziz is the name I normally go by; it means servant of the

Must be an extremely slow news day that this is being reported. Can’t count the 1,000 of times my name was misspelled. Wouldn’t be surprised if reporter misspelled name if it wasn’t pointed out.

How crazy is this. National news that someone can't spell every name in every language, all so someone can declare themselves a victim.

Oh, boy, this is SHOCKING, somebody got the wrong name on their coffee cup. The only possible solution is six months of remedial "cultural sensitivity training" after 40 lashes with a wet noodle.
Come on, people, just grow up. This is absolutely ridiculous.
If Bill comes in and they write Phil on it, or Rob gets Bob on his cup, or Joan gets Jean on hers.....does the
world end? Stupid children's tantrums over nothing.

Both of those words are of foreign origin and are pretty similar to most ordinary American baristas who do not hold doctorates in Islamist studies. So what is the big deal that makes an ordinary barista’s scribbling an item of national news?

We have patronized a particular pharmacy for a number of years and have always gotten courteous and accurate service. Suddenly most aspects of the pharmacy have gone downhill, and we can now count on a least one error each time we have a prescription filled or re-filled. I was inside the pharmacy recently, and one new clerk dressed in a hijab waited on me and my husband. As we were discussing the errors in the transaction, she said something about 'sertee." I asked her multiple times to please repeat it. She knew well that I did not understand, but she kept saying it in the same way over and over and over until it became embarrassing. Finally, from context, we figured out that she meant "thirty." With no help from her we had decoded it. Why couldn't she have written it out or had another employee translate her broken English? She was perfectly capable of this. No, she was making the point that **we** had to submit to her way of using our language.

Starbucks could say the employee has a hearing impairment, is on special medication for being distraught over LBGTQ injustices, self-identifies as an elementary school child who can't spell, etc., thus not being responsible for the mistake, and Aziz is out of line for picking on the her/him/whatever.

And I'm sure that Aziz perfectly enunciated his name with no hint of accent or slurring; that he very clearly pronounced it Ah-zeeze, , and that there was absolutely no background noise to interfere with clear hearing, and that the barista had no hearing problems.
