A favorite question that the anti-gun crowd likes to ask is "Why does anyone need an AR-15?" Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) has a very practical answer to that, which he offered to reporters on Friday. (Snip) That's a very sound point. No matter where you live, you can come up with a legitimate argument for owning an AR-15 for self-defense. Of course, no one ever wants to be in a situation where they have to, but the peace of mind is a gift. Although he can occasionally be a firebrand, Graham is still a United States senator and was flying with the president on Air Force One when asked

Our thinking this week, amid all the carnage and grief and finger-pointing, has been in part on Beto O’Rourke, the presidential candidate from El Paso, where 22 people were killed last Saturday. Our sympathy is devoted to the dead and their families, of course — but Beto has been on our minds, too. We keep coming back to a moment last Sunday when, for a few seconds, all the pretenses that are part of running for president in our age of constant exposure were peeled back, if only briefly. There are times, it seems, in most presidential campaigns when the facades get stripped away like so many layers of paint.

Guards at the New York City jail where millionaire investor Jeffrey Epstein was found dead Saturday did not conduct required checks on prisoners the previous night, according to a report. Epstein died of a suspected suicide after being found unresponsive in his Manhattan Correctional Center cell where he was being held on sex trafficking charges. At approximately 6:30 a.m., Epstein was “found unresponsive in his cell in the Special Housing Unit from an apparent suicide,” the Federal Bureau of Prisons said in a news release. Staff conducted life-saving measures and Epstein was transported by ambulance to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

Much has been written and will be written on the death of Jeffery Epstein. Was it suicide? Was it murder? The only thing certain is that the man did not die of natural causes. The official finding will most likely be suicide. Even if this is actually the case, it still will fuel "conspiracy" theories. Rightfully so. (snip) Trust in government and the agencies of government is already at an all time low. The Department of Justice, the CIA, and the FBI have already discredited themselves by their participation in the coup against President Trump.

Tommy Lee is the new voice of the American Left. The drummer for Mötley Crüe and convicted wife-beater laid out in florid terms his plans for what the Left will do in a few years to the 47% of America that voted for President Trump. Lee’s essay, posted on Twitter Friday morning, began “You Trumpsters better pray that liberals never gain control of the WH again because we are going to pay you back so f*****g hard for all of this sh*t." Lee’s proposals, including taxing churches out of business and throwing condoms out of planes at noncoastal Americans, were creative, and his language was colorful. But the basic notion —

Ghislaine Maxwell, the socialite on Jeffrey Epstein’s arm, was, for many years, the financier’s right-hand woman and best friend. She was also, allegedly, his lure, go-between, and fellow abuser of young women, as newly unsealed documents allege. With Epstein’s death, by suicide, in a Manhattan jail cell this weekend, thousands of questions may never have satisfactory answers and focus is likely to intensify on his collaborators, co-conspirators, enablers, and friends. Where is Ghislaine? Maxwell, 57, has barely been seen in New York since she sold her townhouse in 2016.

But a recent change to the way he’s being formally described in the North Korean Constitution may allow him even more diplomatic leverage as he steps with increasing confidence onto the world stage (Snip) President Donald Trump on Saturday said that Kim wrote him a “beautiful” three-page letter in which he expressed desire to meet once again to “start negotiations” after U.S.-South Korea military exercises end, and also apologized for the flurry of short-range missile tests.

Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont is once again saying on the campaign trail and in interviews that the US spends twice as much on health care, per capita, as any other country in the world. It's a claim he has been making since at least 2009, when PolitiFact noted that it was false. He made it again in 2015, when PolitiFact noted that it was still false. Facts First: It's still false now. The US does spend the highest amount on health care per capita of any Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development country, but not double every single one. The claim has been a staple of Sanders' rhetoric during his campaign

August 10, 1969: SAN CLEMENTE, Calif.—President Nixon accused his predecessor Lyndon Baines Johnson of complicity in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Speaking with reporters on the first day of a 10-day stay at his Pacific Ocean vacation home …. Of course, that never happened. Obviously. How could it, how dare it? But had it happened, such an accusation—by a president, against a former president—would have convulsed the United States and the world. Today, President Trump accused his predecessor, Bill Clinton—or possibly his 2016 campaign opponent, former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton—of complicity in the death of the accused sex-trafficker, Jeffrey Epstein.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren has unveiled a comprehensive plan to reduce gun violence by enacting a suite of new restrictions on buyers, cracking down on sellers and breaking "the (National Rifle Association's) stranglehold on Congress" with anti-corruption legislation. The proposal arrives as more than 15 Democratic primary candidates prepare to take turns speaking at a gun safety forum in Des Moines, Iowa, and a week after the mass shootings in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio. "The next President has a moral obligation to use whatever executive authority she has to address the gun crisis," Warren writes in a Medium post. "But it is obvious that executive action is not enough.

The first town we came to was a ghost town, which provided a Twilight Zone flavor to the whole adventure. Eventually we found a real town with real people who could tell us where we were –- our map had left us clueless.

BERLIN - Germany's reluctance to spend more on defence and its continued reliance on U.S. troops for protection is offensive, Richard Grenell, the U.S. Ambassador to Germany said on Friday. Grenell's comments signal U.S. President Donald Trump's impatience with Germany's failure to raise defence spending to 2% of economic output as mandated by the NATO military alliance. "It is offensive to assume that the U.S. taxpayers continue to pay for more than 50,000 Americans in Germany but the Germans get to spend their (budget) surplus on domestic programmes," Grenell told the dpa news agency.

Let’s apply Occam’s razor to Jeffrey Epstein’s untimely death. Which of these scenarios makes more sense: that a powerful billionaire who knew all about a global elite sex ring was murdered in jail by the same unaccountable forces that allowed him to evade justice for years, or that he suddenly killed himself while on suicide watch? Oh, he wasn’t on suicide watch? Well, that’s normal. It’s all very simple: Epstein must have killed himself after, very sensibly, being left alone to his own devices, despite being the most high-profile defendant in the country. What are you, a conspiracy theorist?

In 1972, Pope Paul VI famously wrote that the “smoke of Satan” entered the Church, wafting through the very windows he and his liberal confreres had thrown open to the world. It was an admission that the Church around the time of Vatican II had succumbed to the secularism and hedonism of post-1960s Western culture. The Church had once led the West in moral standards. Now she slavishly followed the West’s lowest ones, becoming in the process as sick and dysfunctional as its shabbiest pagan institutions. All the scandals that defined a crumbling secular society hit the Church, culminating in a pederasty scandal of epic proportions.

Accused pedophile Jeffrey Epstein’s death this morning — reportedly a suicide, according to federal officials — is an inexplicable end to a bizarre, tragic case that only got more disturbing the more we learned about it. The fact that one of the country’s highest-profile federal prisoners could even commit suicide defies all logic and belief. His death raises doubts about officials’ actions. The FBI says it will investigate; Attorney General William Barr says he is “appalled” by what happened; members of Congress such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) are demanding answers. Indeed we all need answers, before we lose all faith in our justice system.
