The father of infant twins has been charged with homicide after the pair was discovered dead inside a car in the Bronx Friday afternoon, New York City police said. Police are investigating whether the twins died from heat exposure .Investigators said the father, identified as Juan Rodriguez, told them that he accidentally left the twins, a boy and a girl approximately 11 months old, in their rear-facing car seats in his car Friday morning on his way to work at a nearby Veteran's Administration Medical Center around 8 a.m. Police said that he told them that he went back into

Its bad enough that his children are dead. Its even worse that its his fault. But no, the Law has to make the situation even worse by arresting him and calling it a 'crime'!

I agree that it should be a crime. No one is that forgetful. I have a dog that I love dearly and would never forget and leave in a hot car. And I'm a forgetful old lady.

Sorry #1 but this absolutely was a crime. This story that he ‘forgot’ he had two infants in his car in not even believable. At all.

Under a year old? Left in a hot car for 8 hours?! That's not forgetfulness, that's murder.

"Accidentally"......
Difficult to imagine how this could be an accident. Did he somehow not know they were in the car? Not credible.

The crime is negligent homicide. He isn’t being accused of intentional conduct. This is not the first case of something like this happening. People get in their routines and operate on auto-pilot. It’s ironic that the insistence on backseat infant car seats may have caused as many deaths as were caused before car seats were required.

I cannot believe that anyone could “forget” that he had two 11 month old children in rear-facing seats in his 4-door Honda. Impossible.
He had to have put the children in the carseats when he left home. Where was he going with them - to work? What was he to do with them at work? Or was he supposed to take them somewhere else before he went to work? This story is full of gaping holes...

This guy deserves everything that is coming to him. This is just unforgivable. Like the woman who has no clue she was pregnant until she has a baby, I just do not buy that he 'forgot'. If he was supposed to drop the babies off at the sitter, why didn't he? That speaks to me of a form of intent right there. I cannot even begin to contemplate the horror those babies went through in their final moments. The law isn't making this worse, the law is doing the right thing.

#9 Good point. He had to buckle up not just one kid but two kids in car seats. We can assume you also have to take all their stuff with you. Leaving the house with infants is not a fast process. This seems highly unlikely he actually forgot about them.

His lawyer will defend him by saying his defendant was so worried about Trump coming to deport him, he forgot about the kids in the back of the car. The court and jury made up of brain dead liberals, will agree and find him innocent.

I read somewhere that people with children in car seats should remove and leave one of their shoes with the infants in the car seat. That or your phone...bet he did not forget that.

Indefensible and tragic, yet I agree with number 7 it's entirely possible this poor dad, physically and mentally geared towards the work day ahead, just plain forgot about his babies. I can imagine most moms finding this inconceivable. At the same time, I can imagine most dads saying to themselves,"that could have been me!!!"

I'm sorry, a man drives to work with two babies in the back seat. They would be in view every time you look in the rear view mirror. Then the car is parked, a quick visual done while triggering the door locks. This is what I, and everyone who drives a car does. This Oops, I forgot scenario is becoming more and more prevalent, and I'm still not buying it.

Before you people jumk to conclusions, don't you want to know where the twins were supposed to be delivered to? Was someone (the mother or girlfriend) supposed to pick them up from his car? Where was day care facility??
Sometimes a tragedy is that, and nothing more.

This is so solvable with cameras in the back seat, either mounted in the back of the front seats or facing forward mounted on the rear window. Facial recognition could determine whether children are present and trigger alarms/warnings when the driver leaves the car while the children are inside.

Sorry, but my prayers go to those two precious babies and babies and pets who are "forgotten" and die in the backs of cars. Babies and animals make noise. Unless you are deaf, playing your music too loud or talking on the phone the whole way, you will hear them. How about paying attention to the most helpless amongst us instead of the phone or the latest song on the radio!! How does this man remember to brush his teeth or change his underwear if he can't even remember loading two squirming, cooing infants into the back seat of his car???
What ever happened to the suggestion that parents of these babies either place the diaper bag on the front seat or their brief case in the back?? Or if you are REALLY forgetful, tie one of the babies shoes around the rearview mirror or your key ring. As a last resort, tape a sign over the radio saying, "Babies in Backseat!!"
Sorry, but I'm tired of being fed the "I forgot they were there" excuse!! This is happening too often in our society.

Every time this has happened to my recollection it's because of the law requiring babies be tethered in high backed boosters in the back seat facing backwards. I don't recall this ever happening when they faced forward or sat in front. The kids fall asleep, are silent, and the distracted parent forgets they are there.

Excellent, #13. This is something everyone can easily do and afford. If they're running around barefoot they can leave their wallet or purse. I leave my car keys with my cell phone or whatever else I might be inclined to forget about when departing.

No #19!! You're making excuses for criminal behavior. Nobody is that aloof to forget their babies like that. I'd be interested to know if the father is a sociopath.

Thanks to God that Butler County Kansas officials are immune from the hysterical PC pressure to criminally charge parents in similar circustances. Just last week the County Attorney announced no charges against a mother who did the same thing (but with one child, not two) since she is being punished already and her torment will continue the rest of her life.

No one "forgets". Especially with twins. That is utter BS. Did you ever see one of these cases where the adult (sic) didn't claim it was accidental?

Having travelled by car extensively with my kids, as has been said, even a routine trip is a hassle of car seat buckling, diaper bag loading, and hoping and praying no one has an "accident" before you get to your destination. Unless you are on drugs (legal or illegal), drunk, or severe!y sleep deprived, I don't get how you can forget your kids are in the car and none of those are an excuse for doing so.

I think one parent should be dedicated to driving the children to the daycare. It shouldn't be a 'You drive them MWF and you do it TTH.' None of the 50/50 stuff. That leads to forgetfulness. Saying that, I don't know if the parents had an agreement like that. But if the guy had a full day ahead of him and was distracted by the demands of the day and if the babies fell asleep in the back as babies can do on a car ride I can see how this could roll out in such a tragic way. I do think that people should be charged for negligent homicide. It has to apply in every case no matter the circumstances so maybe there will be fewer child deaths like this.

Unless someone else put these 2 children in his car when he wasn't looking, it was no accident.

Sadly, people do forget. This happened to a woman in, I think, Iowa a few years back and everyone blamed her for being a working mother. I think day care centers should call parents if they unexpectantly don’t show up with their children. Tragedies like this could be prevented.
