Is people of color the in- word now? Seems like some people of color are never happy. It use to be Negro, they didn't like that and wanted to be called colored. Then that didn't suit them and they wanted to called African American. Then it was Black. Now I guess it back to being colored again.

Black was never a true descriptive word. Brown would be more applicable.

Well, you ain't "black" in the first place. You're Negroes. Use the proper term. I can't stand how people latch onto a word and claim it for their own persuasion, such as "gay."

PS - Would someone please explain to me why "colored people" is offensive while "people of color" is lauded ???

I guess they should've looked at the definitions of "black" first before they took on the term. The definitions came first. They were the ones who picked the word. What was wrong with the term Negroes?

From the article...' lacking hue or brightness, and 'characterized by absence of light, enveloped by darkness.'
I think that pretty well sums up the definition of the word, unless you add 'grievous lack of self esteem' or
'the constant feeling of entitlement.'

A rose by any other name is still a rose.
I am of Italian descent. You should have heard the names I was called while I was growing up, then I grew up and became an adult. The names didn't bother me anymore. I repeat "then I grew up and became an adult".
There are some folks that will never be satisfied. They need to grow up.
A negro, black person, a colored person, a person of color, an African American.
To the perpetually offended, pick a name and stick with it. The world has other issues other than pleasing your insecurities about an identifiable name. My name for you all is TROUBLE.

#7, people with those ridiculous made up names are wearing a sign that says 'don't hire me'. My first impulse would be to not consider them for employment, unless they could prove that they weren't one of the typicals. Just think, a woman who would go to great imaginative lengths to give her child a deliberately 'non-white' name has probably reared that child to be a self-pitying hateful racist. All right, I know not always, but in many cases. Those poor kids have an extra hurdle to jump in their lives.

I used to caution my graduate students who were of African descent to think carefully in choosing first names for their children, looking ahead to resume writing and job applications.
Don't ever give an HR manager a reason for not reading your resume - and in case he or she was even subconsciously racist, a Shaniqua or LaToya resume might not be completely read. The same logic applied to poor spelling or poor grammar in a resume.

The Left constantly changes terminology so as to identify conservatives by their use of newly-banned words. Very quickly, the old terms become "hate speech" and the Left bans those using the terms from the public forum. George Orwell described this process in his great work "1984."

I went through an Identity Crisis during my younger days. I was a patriotic American, inside an Asian body. In a culture of Black and White, I felt alienated because nobody talked about us. We were the silent American! Anyway, before I committed suicide, I checked Webster's Dictionary and found out I was,... "Yellow"! What a relief! Now I can identify myself as "Yellow-American". Yellow Brick Road, Yellow Submarine, MacDonald's M, Batman Logo, Bruce Lee's Yellow Jumpsuit, yellow duckie, Big Bird, French Fries, etc. They are all yellow and positive. Thank you, Mr. Webster, for saving my life!

Nyshayla says “there are offensive words related to black.” So instead
she calls herself a woman of color. Well that’s no good either. Asians,
East Indians, Central Americans, Arabs and no doubt some Eskimos
are calling themselves people of color. Sista, you ain’t no Japanese girl.

Dictionaries don’t define the definition for society, they study and record how society defines words. It’s a “We The People” system, not an Authoritarian dictatorship. I can see why some people don’t get it... It’s just not their way.

The Left is convinced that if only they can change the meaning of words to suit their manipulative purposes, they can control the way that Americans think. After all, if they can persuade the gullible that some words uttered by others make them "bad" or unacceptable, they can stifle free speech so as to control their opposition. Political Correctness is a big step towards that goal. George Orwell's 1984 vividly shows where a society ends up when such control is exercised, for our own good, of course.
Expect this strategy from the racists, the baby-killers and the gun-confiscators, and their complicit media.

The Creator did that. Are they second guessing Him?
