On June 22, 2018, White House press secretary Sarah Sanders was kicked out of the Lexington, Virginia, restaurant Red Hen because of her affiliation with President Donald Trump. On Monday night, Sanders got the last laugh as she dined with the Queen of England. The press secretary joined Trump and his family at a State Banquet hosted at Buckingham Palace. Over 170 individuals attended the gathering. Sanders was escorted to the banquet by Prince Michael of Kent, the queen’s first cousin.

Boris Johnson, the leading candidate to succeed Theresa May as Britain’s next prime minister, said he would withhold a previously agreed 39 billion pound Brexit payment until the European Union gives Britain better exit terms. The EU has repeatedly said it will not reopen discussion of the Brexit transition deal it reached with May last year, which British lawmakers have rejected three times, prompting May to announce her resignation earlier this month. May stepped down as leader of the governing Conservatives on Friday. Johnson, a former foreign secretary in May’s cabinet, is popular with ordinary Conservative Party members, who will decide between the two candidates

Just two years ago then-House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) deflected questions about ideological litmus tests on abortion rights, suggesting Democrats offered a big tent welcoming people of all creeds. “I grew up Nancy D’Alesandro, in Baltimore, Maryland; in Little Italy; in a very devout Catholic family,” Pelosi, who is now House speaker, told The Washington Post in May 2017. Her politically powerful family included many opponents of abortion through their religious beliefs, she said. “Most of those people — my family, extended family — are not pro-choice. You think I’m kicking them out of the Democratic Party?”

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg on Friday credited new Justice Brett Kavanaugh with increasing the number of female clerks serving the court. "Justice Kavanaugh made history by bringing on board an all-female law clerk crew," Ginsburg said, according to a transcript of her speech to a conference of judges in New York. "Thanks to his selections, the court has this term, for the first time ever, more women than men serving as law clerks." Ginsburg noted that more progress is still needed to ensure equal representation.

In the 1950s and ’60s, Doris Day was America’s box-office sweetheart. But she spent her final days being manipulated by those around her, sources who were close to the legend allege. Day’s death on May 13 has opened a rift between family and friends who accuse one another of mistreating the star. Her only grandchild, Ryan Melcher, issued a Facebook post claiming Day’s longtime manager, Bob Bashara, had banned him from seeing his reclusive grandmother, who was 97 when she died. It was all the more damning because Ryan — whose father was Day’s son, Terry, who died in 2004 — had never publicly spoken about the actress, known for such movie classics

Attorney General William Barr joked about the reception he has received since returning to the Justice Department, comparing the experience to the D-Day invasion.Remarking on coverage of the 75th anniversary of when Allied forces stormed the beaches of Normandy in World War II, Barr noted Friday how he almost felt like one of the soldiers landing in enemy territory.“I’m a two-time offender. This is my second stint as attorney general,” he told agents graduating from the FBI Academy.“As we’ve been watching the coverage of June 6, 1944 D-Day, I had the thought that my arrival this time felt a little bit, I think, like jumping into Sainte-Mère-Église
