In its new crusade for veganism, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has rushed to the defense of oysters and other bivalves, insisting they should be respected and never eaten.
“Oysters are never vegan,” PETA announced in a short video presentation on Twitter Saturday. “Bivalves are animals that deserve our consideration and should never be eaten or used in any other way.”
In its attempt to tug at the heartstrings of possible sympathizers, PETA underscored the cruelty with which oysters are treated just to feed undeserving human beings.
“Their shells are torn open and their bodies are cut up,” the video proclaimed.

PETA has supported/committed many bad acts... should be held up for sedition. Now this nonsense. Bad PETA!

Unknown, but probably the bravest (or most reckless) person in history: The person who ate the first oyster.

I thought Vegans were inhabitants of planets in the Vega Star system...oh, and by the way...they will eat practically anything that moves.

Here's some consideration for oysters. Which one should I consider for lunch? Oysters Rockefeller or George Washington's Ragoo of Oysters?

As it becomes more difficult to draw the line between plant and animal sentience and intuition, it will also become more difficult for the PETAns to settle on what to consider victuals:

Are the oyster bars in Penn Station and Grand Central, NYC still operating? They used to be so popular with commuters. Maybe PETA has already shut them down?

That's the best part. You get to eat them while they're still alive !!! Like a carrot.

Guess I'll have to ask Beto where I can get me some of that "Magic Dirt". It appears PETA is going to take everything else off the menu.

# 7, the Oyster Bar at Grand Central is alive and well. Paddy's Clam Bar and Oyster House that used to be on 34th Street opposite Penn Station is long gone, but the tradition of Oysters carries on at a place called TRACKS in Penn Station.
The reason there were Oyster bars at the RR stations was simple. You can put a barrel of oysters on a train, and they would keep - so oysters from the Chesapeake Bay made it alive and edible to NYC.
Because of PETA, I have given up eating Oysters - until September when there is an "R" in the month.

I hope PETA doesn't find out I just had an oyster Po-Boy down here is South Louisiana yesterday. The wife had a shrimp Po-boy, so I guess she was bad also. A dressed Po-boy on real French bread is as good as it gets for casual fare, period!

I wish for PETA to curl up with a warm "binkie" and simply starve to death.

Do you think that PETA has any idea how many rabbits, voles, moles, mice etc are killed in the harvesting of vegetables? To be absolutely cruelty free, they should either only eat vegetables they have personally grown and harvested or they should quit eating everything and die. I prefer them to take option number 2.

"Their shells are torn open and their bodies are cut up..."
So "bivalves" have rights, while preborn human children are mere "choices". Whoever thought we'd reach this level of madness?

UGH!
Today I ate an oyster, an oyster in a shell!
I really didn’t want to, it had a fishy smell.
But my neighbor Larry, a man I call my friend,
asked if I’d like to try one, no way I could offend.
So I gathered up my courage and I sat down in a chair,
but when he pushed them over all I could do was stare.
You see I’d never seen one, didn’t know where to begin;
so I thought I’d watch him eat one before I started in.
Well he polished off a couple and I knew my turn was near,
so I wrapped my hand around one, wishing that it were a beer.
I slid the knife into it and pried off half its shell; I ran the knife around it and freed it up real well.
Then I made a big mistake, I took a look inside,
it sent a shiver through me, I swear I nearly cried.—
The thing I was about to eat was kind of sickly gray,
except right in the middle where I guess the innards lay.
As I held it in my fingers, I knew I had to eat it quick,
’cause I thought I saw it moving, it nearly made me sick.
I raised the oyster to my lips, I wasn’t feeling well,
paused for just a minute and I sucked it from the shell.—
It was kind of wet and slimy and I guess that made it slick,
and for that I’m ever grateful ’cause it really went down quick.
He offered me another, but I said I had to go;
one was more than I could handle, but I never told him so.
I said “I thank you kindly, I’m so glad that we could sup.”
Then I headed for my bathroom with that oyster coming up.

Excellent soliloquy #18, but why are we giving PETA a response. These people have caused harm to other citizens with their madness.

So let's see. Any creature is off our plates if the rabid vegans get their way? Including mollusks? Bivalves? Mushrooms? Hey, they're fungi, living sentient creatures, no?
