Burrito lovers beware. Chipotle (CMG) could raise prices for its burritos if President Donald Trump follows through with his threat to impose tariffs on products from Mexico next week. Trump said last week he would implement a 5% tariff on all goods and imports from Mexico beginning June 10 unless “the illegal migration crisis is alleviated.” The proposed tariffs, which could raise the prices consumers pay for imports including tequila, beer and avocados, could increase to 25% in the coming months. “If the tariffs become permanent, we would look to offset these costs through other margin improvement efforts already underway,”

$1000 burritos would be worth it.
In reality, if a $10 item costs $10.50, totally, TOTALLY irrelevant to anything except
Enemedia whining.

That's the point!! Maybe, some farmers in the U.S. will be able to compete with the cheap labor in Mexico!

I would laugh but then I’d fall over and I probably couldn’t get myself up….
The idiocy.
Our one Chipotle experience involved entering one for lunch, having a look at the offering and the servers, looking at each other, and leaving to go and have lunch at another restaurant down the street...

Chipotle is ‘healthy’ Mexican food and as such, dull, tasteless and uninteresting. Went once, never went back. I actually don’t know anyone who likes their food. Even Taco Bell is tastier! Being here in southern California you can get great Mexican food on every corner so go ahead, Chipotle, make my day. Adios! Enjoy your PC posturing.

Since Chipotle advertises local sourcing - what exactly do they get from Mexico?
We have a local tortilla factory, they don't sell beer or alcohol - so, they are going to raise their prices and expect the SJW sheeple to bend over and... and as we have several good Mexican outlets this should be interesting

Yeah, because no one in the USA makes tortillas, no one in the USA grows beans, and no one in the USA knows how to 'refry' them.

How about this? Mexico makes an effort to stop being the conduit for Central Americans and the whole tariff thing goes away. Wow!

Here's my one and only experience with Chipotle: Years ago, I went to one in Austin with a group from church. When I got my food, I found a hair in it, and so did another person in my group. I promptly returned the food, got my money, and will never darken their door again.
I now call them "Chipotle: Home of the Hairy Burrito." If they want to throw a hissy fit, that's perfectly fine with me! In fact, I recommend that they permanenly close down ALL Chipotle locations.

Received a notice on my Iphone a few minutes ago reporting that the President of Mexico is will to talk immediately and take actions to curtain illegal immigration into the U.S. through Mexico. Amazing how President Trump can get things accomplished. Nice to have a real leader in the White House for once.

I bet what Chipotle is really worried about is that if the tariffs are successful in helping to stop the third-world invasion, they will have to hire citizens or green-card holders for their kitchen and pay them more than the illegals they employ there now.

I've never understood how they survived as a company after the dozen known times customers have gotten sick with life threatening bacterial and viral infections caused directly by their food sourcing and employee illness and neglegence. We are talking sometimes hundreds of people and some invariably die. People actually die from eating at Chipotle's!!!!! You couldn't pay me to eat there.

Love it when eateries wade into a political battle only to find themselves on the wrong side of the issue. It's going to really stink for them once they feel the impact of being wrong.
So go ahead and raise your prices and make your social justice statement. The people who can actually afford to eat your food will elect not to.
Ha ha.

Proves that the executives at Chipotle are idiots. The Mexican peso has already lost 4% of its value since Trump's announcement. Pays for the first traunch of tariff. Peso will lose more and more value as the tariff increases. The Mexican government will also do more to lower cost of doing business in Mexico, just like the Chinese government is doing.
