Each May, some 3,000 people descend on Kalamazoo, Mich., for the International Congress on Medieval Studies, which brings together academics and enthusiasts for four days of scholarly panels, performances and after-hours mead drinking. But in recent years, the gathering affectionately known as “K’zoo” — and the field of medieval studies itself — has been shadowed by conflicts right out of the 21st century. Since the 2016 presidential election, scholars have hotly debated the best way to counter the “weaponization” of the Middle Ages by a rising tide of far-right extremists, whether it’s white nationalist marchers in Charlottesville, Va., displaying medieval

They are trying to rewrite all of history, write out the white folks.
History without white Europeans will be pretty bland, mostly discussions of carving wooden masks, and the amazing architectural advances in round grass hut making over the centuries (without any glass windows) and such in Africa, and various warlords killing each other in the Middle East, with zero technological advancement.

What does Charlottesville and the 2016 election have to do with Medieval Studies? People who voted for Trump weren´t far right or white nationalists, they were conservatives and centrists who loved their country. These academic college loons and those that think like them need to get a life. Much like those in D.C., these people don´t know squat about the real world. They only know what life is like in their own protected circle.

While white Europeans did their share of ´militarization´ in the middle ages, you dont have to look far into non-white cultures for some truly horrific use of violence at that time. Islam, Mongols, and Huns were positively genocidal in their ´outreach´. Armenians recently observed a remembrance for the massacre by the Ottoman Turks in WWI, but another author pointed out that the Turks who invaded Armenia in the 1400s slaughtered or enslaved EVERYONE they encountered - which came to hundreds of thousands.
I despise ´scholars´ who rewrite history to buttress their current political leanings. Pretty futile, and dangerous, as future generations may not learn the right lessons to keep themselves safe.

When minorities are left out, and in this case medieval history, they fall back on that old cop out, racism. What the hell do these people want? It’s white supremacy because all of Europe was and is Caucasian! China and Japan had feudal societies, but do we hear anyone talking about Yellow Supremacy? Give me a break. This Kim twit is just stirring the pot to get some attention when she should be ignored. This whole thing is silly!

This NYT´s article struck me as a hit piece on Rachael Fulton Brown and any one who supports Trump. Prof. Brown has a good number of video interviews and discussions on You Tube. Spend some time listening and then judge for yourself if she is a white supremacist or is someone who very much values the positive in Western Civilization. She is a most interesting person, a fine scholar, devout Catholic and has shown a remarkable steadfastness in the face of her leftist medievalist critcs from what I have seen. The article begins with a photo of Charlottesville white supremacists, setting the tone of its smear. Charlottesville has nothing to do with Professor Brown. Again, make your own inquiry.

Does anyone happen to know how many self-proclaimed White Nationalists there are in the US? The best number I´ve seen is 5,000. Out of a population of 320,000,000.
Can´t we go back to discussing Kavanaugh´s high school yearbook. Much more interesting.

I´m white. I am a very nationalistic patriot.
I suppose that makes me a white nationalist.....but certainly not the way these pukes misuse and abuse the term.

There were two cultures that could stand up to the assault of Islam... 700AD and later: The Mongols and Europe. Africa was plundered. The Indians were divided, defeated, and subjugated.
The Mongols left a culture of universities, churches, cities and... and...
Yeah.
Europe with its castles, churches, cities, universities, scholarship are the best we have from that period. Too bad they were mostly white guys.
But there it is.

Political Correctness crashes into interest in the Middle Ages. The fact is that Christianity and nation states did arise from the ashes of the collapsed Roman Empire, and were the foundation of flourishing societies (until recently).
