That’s the title of a great song in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and that, it occurs to me, is an appropriate song for the media and the Democrats. For two years they vigorously promoted -- for their amusement and political benefit -- a fake Russian collusion story and now must watch it unravel and boomerang on them, their allies and the miscreants who created it. They had their fun, and the denouement has begun.

The U.S. jobless rate dropped to the lowest point in 50 years on Friday but Democrats could not have been more glum about it. “Unfortunately, the evidence shows that most of the economic gains continue to benefit those already well-off,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said in a statement following a report that the U.S. added 263,000 jobs in April. “We must do more to ensure that the economy is benefiting every family in every community, and that all Americans have the opportunity to move ahead in our economy.” Democrats are working to carefully navigate their messaging strategy, amid

The DREAM Act has reportedly temporarily stalled in the House because amnesty activists are insisting that Democrats grant a pathway to citizenship to illegal immigrants who have committed crimes. According to a Thursday evening Politico report, the pro-amnesty legislation that House leaders have prioritized as one of the most important of this Congress is now reportedly “on hold, with Democrats scrambling to draft language that can secure enough votes in committee and on the floor” without exposing moderate Democrats to some uncomfortable votes before their 2020 reelection races. The bill, authored by Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA), would give so-called Dreamers

Former Vice President Joe Biden took shots at President Donald Trump on Saturday, calling him a “clown” who was allowing “Jim Crow” racism to return to the United States. Biden kicked off his rally in Columbia, South Carolina with a string of warnings about racism and hatred rising under Trump’s presidency, in an effort to win support from African-Americans Democrats in the state. “Folks, last year, 24 states introduced or enacted at least 70 bills to curtail the right the vote. And guess what, mostly directed at ‘people of color,´” he said. “You see it. We have Jim Crow sneaking

The White House is considering a proposal to make it easier to deport low-income immigrants who are dependent on public benefits. The Department of Justice has written a draft regulation that, if implemented, would greatly expand the number of immigrants in the U.S. who could be subject to deportation for using public benefits, Reuters reported Friday. The new proposal is part of the Trump administration’s larger effort to limit immigration from low-income foreign nationals.Such benefits include the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), commonly referred to as “food stamps;” Supplemental Security Income (SSI) doled out to the elderly

Bill Maher admits he feels “owned” by President Trump and his supporters. The HBO “Real Time” host told his audience Friday that the main mission of the president and Republicans is “owning the libs,” and admitted they had succeeded. (Photo) “I remember after the midterms, there was a lot of euphoria,” Maher told his panel, referring to the excitement Democrats felt after they retook the House in the 2018 midterm elections, as they would supposedly now have “subpoena power” in the new Congress. “Apparently not,” Maher declared as he opened up a discussion with his guests

The disqualification of the winner of the Kentucky Derby — Maximum Security — in favor of a slower steed, Country House, may be a first for the Run for the Roses. It is also, at least in our opinion, a shocking error of judgment. It will be talked about until the end of equines. All the more so because it is already being lit up on the Internet as a metaphor for our national political crisis. The events happened toward the final turn on a sloppy track in lousy weather (at roughly the 2:05 minute mark in this video).
We Only Have Three And A Half Days To Stop Climate Change replies

Climate change is in the news again. Earlier this year, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D–NY) warned us that we have only 12 years to address the harm that human beings are doing to the planet. Last week, Beto O’Rourke amended that, suggesting we have only 10 years. Now, I don’t want to scare anyone, but according to my calculations that I arrived at by reading science, both Beto and Ocasio-Cortez are looking at this problem through rose-colored glasses. In fact, the world has precisely three and a half days to change its ways or it will basically be destroyed.

Joe Biden flubbed the name of British Prime Minister Theresa May at a fundraiser Saturday night, calling her by former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher´s name. Thatcher left office in 1990 and died in 2013. The mistake by Biden, 76, comes amid worries about his age after he slurred his words during his campaign announcement speech. Aides have shielded him from reporters. He leads early primary polls by a wide margin but the Democratic Party establishment has yet to swing behind him. “Margaret Thatcher, um, excuse me, Margaret Thatcher — Freudian slip,” Biden said to laughter,

Nancy Pelosi is already anticipating that Trump will not be gracious in defeat if he loses the 2020 presidential election by a slim margin. Speaking to the New York Times, the Speaker of the House says that the Democrats need to win by a landslide so Trump will step down from the presidency without challenging the results. ´If we win by four seats, by a thousand votes each, he´s not going to respect the election,´ Pelosi says. ´We have to inoculate against that, we have to be prepared for that.´ It would not be unlike Trump, who - even

Jimmy Carter won the presidency in 1976 because he understood the mood of the country, and because his message of populist reform reached disaffected voters in a way that eluded other more established politicians vying for the nomination in the aftermath of the Watergate scandal. His signature lines, “I’ll never tell a lie,” and I’ll lead, “a government as good as its people,” as well as his promise to curb the excesses of the CIA, which had come to light around the time of Watergate, outshone and outmaneuvered a field of 17 candidates that included

Anyone imagining the drumroll-to-sad-trombone Mueller Report shaking the Democratic Party’s monomaniacal faith in impeachment does not grasp the meaning of monomaniacal. True believers believe; such trivial matters as evidence, or a lack thereof, do not shake this faith. For a moment, in the wake of Attorney General William Barr’s announcement that the special counsel found no evidence of a conspiracy, it looked as though the many Ahabs might abandon their quest for their orange whale. But this underestimated their fervor — and their despair at the prospect of Trump’s reelection. And when your belief in your electoral chances wanes, impeachment morphs

A year ago, in Seattle, a man living in a city-funded homeless encampment raped a woman in the bathroom of a Volkswagen dealership in the city’s Ballard neighborhood. Christopher Teel had arrived from Texas as a transient and was evading multiple warrants, but the city-sanctioned encampment welcomed him without conducting a criminal-background check. The story caused a sensation, with wide media coverage and public demands for increased security measures, but the crime victim remained silent and her identity was kept secret. Nearly a year later, the victim, Lindsey, contacted me. After being raped, she had approached city leaders

The 2020 Democratic presidential contenders are going to the dogs — and a turtle. Trump has said he´d "feel a little phony" with a dog, but presidents haven´t kept just canines — Calvin Coolidge had a bobcat, Teddy Roosevelt had a one-legged rooster, and Thomas Jefferson kept a pair of grizzly bear cubs on the White House lawn.
