Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang appeared in Detroit on Friday, touting part of his platform that would give every American $1,000 per month. One of his cornerstone policies -- and he’s released more than 70 -- is what he calls the universal basic income. It would give every American $1,000 per month, paying for it in part with a “value-added tax” on goods and services businesses produce.

Yeah, right. We´ll (tax payers) give every American (wait until it is simply everyone residing in America) $1,000 a month. Raise the taxes on the goods and services you buy.
That´s everything you buy, use and need, and that $1,000 won´t be worth squat.

And when they squander that (which many will) they’ll still be poor. Actually, wasn’t the Great Society supposed to do the same thing?

This pathetic pandering progressive pinhead of the day basically suggests we make panhandling a government function, forcing every driver to hand over a couple of twenties to the drugged out bum at the intersection. What could possibly go wrong?

We ( the people ) are being played by these "can you top this" jokers. They know they have chance at being president. It´s all diversion until next year when the actual candidate will be put forth by the dems.

Why only $1000 a month? Why not $5,000 or $10,000? The government would just have to print more.

So, now I pay in $40K, and get back nothing.
Lazy slug over there pays in nothing, gets welfare worth $10K.
Under this new plan, I pay in $50K, get $1K cash. The lazy slug pays in nothing, gets $1K cash, and welfare worth $10K.
Yep, great plan......NOT.

It is the Democrat Presidential nomination. Rule of thumb:::: if “democratic” is capitalized in relation to the Democrat Party in the U.S., it is incorrect.

As a few of us older types recollect, he´s just channeling George McGovern. Based on George´s experience, I wish Andrew and the others the same luck. Some of you younger LDotters may remember that George McGovern taught you how to count to 7 and spell Massachusetts.

That said, I watched Shapiro interview him and he was a refreshing dimokkkrap: not foaming at the mouth, just calm talk about ideas. However, Even his non-socialist ideas seemed immature; in an earlier time he wouldn’t have a resume sufficient for a midsized corporate job. His experience is mostly in nonprofits i think. That qualifies him to take on the iranians and the chinese. /s

Need more Ying and less Yang. Back in 72 George McGovern wanted to give everyone $ 1k. After almost 50 years hasn´t there been a cost of living increase in pandering? The guy is getting ideas from AOC. Needs a smarter advisor such as Honey Boo Boo.

Who can actually live on $12,000 per year? I was making a lot more than that as a single woman in 1977 and still had to keep a careful budget.

My calculator doesn´t go into the billions or trillions. How much is $1,000 per month times 320 million people per month and year? Is that zillions or "Brazillions"?

$1000 to 300,000,000 peoples is $300,000,000,000 in taxes to be raised every month to pay for it. Divide that up "fairly among the 300 million people amounts to a $1000 tax bill per person each month. Hmmmm.

There´s that same pesky "mistake" again. When you see a headline that reads : "Such-and-such politician wants to GIVE people $1K per month," know that it SHOULD read: "Such-and-such Progressive politician wants to give away taxpayer moneys to buy votes." Rest ASSURED that that politician is NOT giving away HIS money, but confiscating YOURS. Those fools cheering and waving signs at his rallies are likely clueless and penniless.
